My skin will itch like something is crawling on it and biting it, then I will look at the area and their is nothing there, so I itch it, and it will form a small red bump, then it bruises form me scratching it. I have also noticed I have extreme gas, and it does not matter what I eat. My dog had fleas a couple months ago and I thought that was it. I had him sprayed, bathed and I put that liquid down his back that prevents them, the inside and outside of the house sprayed. I have not seen any on on him in over a month. However I still get these small itches, red bumps and bruising. And the gas is extreme, almost like my body is rejecting something. NO new products used and of course the doc has no idea.

Charleston, South Carolina.

Found Brown Widow spider yesterday in leg of plastic lawn chair, along with 2 or 3 eggs. Squished them all before I even knew what they were.
The egg sacs were spiked just like pictures I have seen here.]

I am used to Black Widows since I am from Southern California, but now live in Charleston, South Carolina.....and had never heard of the brown widow until today.

In 2003, I was bitten by a brown recluse. I didn't feel the bite, I just noticed that it started itching. It was on the inside of my left thigh. I actually thought it was dry skin from shaving or something like that, so I put lotion on it to no avail. The next day, I noticed a small bump, that made me think that it was from shaving. I thought I had an infected hair or something. My leg started hurting, not in one place, but my whole leg hurt. This was the end of the second day. (I assume it was the second day, since I don't know when I was bitten.) Day 3, when I woke up, the bump was the size of a half dollar and was really hard and red. I tried using peroxide and an anti-bacterial cream on it. I even tried a cream for ingrown hairs. Nothing worked. My leg was also hurting a great deal. And I started to notice a smell that smelled like rotted meat, little did I know that it was my leg that was rotting. Day 4, That morning, the half dollar sized dump had turned into something the size of a band-aid box, yes, that's right, a band-aid box. It was hard as a rock, very red, and you could feel the heat coming off of it. I was running fever, had the shakes, and could not hardly move my leg.

The smell was even worse today. I decided it was time to go to the ER. When I got there, (i lived in a very rural area) there was no real doctor there. The person I saw told me to come back the next morning to see a doctor and a surgeon. I went home with antibiotics and pain medicine. That night, I was in so much pain, I would shake even though I wasn't cold. I went to the hospital the next morning, and the doctor came in, took a look at it. He took some blood and was back in 15 minutes telling the nurses to get me into surgery right then. It was a brown recluse bite. And it wasn't only one, there were 2 bites within an inch of each other. I went into surgery, and after coming out, I couldn't see what it looked like, it was bandaged up. At the worst, I thought it would have a small cut. WRONG!!! I had an 8 inch cut with a gaping hole in the middle of it. The nurse came in and told me that i'd never believe in a 1000 years how much dead meat there was in my leg. They stuffed packing in the hole for 2 days. That was the worst, when they would pull that packing out. They released me with no packing, and told me that the wound needed to stay open to let the venom drain out.

I had no idea what I thought it would look like, but it was yellowish pus strings. I had never seen anything like it before. Over the course of several weeks, the skin started to grow back. It took a long time to heal up, and 7 years later, even though it has healed up, if you run your finger along my scar, you will feel a hole under the skin. I will never forget this. It was very tramatic for me. Even after coming home, I couldn't even go to bed without feeling like spiders were crawling on me. I think it hurt just as much mentally as it did physically. If you have any of these symptoms, don't wait. Please go to the emergency room ASAP!!! I waited to long and it made it worse, if I would have gone right from the get go, things may not have been as bad.

Two days ago at about 4 pm I was riding my mower and felt what I thought was a thorn or foxtail sticking me in the upper left butt. Just irritating at first, but started to sting like a bee sting bad enough for me to get off the mower and actually drop my pants to brush off whatever it was. Didn't see anything, but within a half hour my groin lymph node started swelling and hurting. By 9 pm I had stomach pains, a bad headache, and all my joints hurt, especially low back, hips, knees, and ankles. Got a mild asthma feeling. I took Avinza (a morhpine pill) -- didn't touch the pain. Up all night no sleep. Next morning took a Vicodin, which helped a little. Pain pretty strong all over. Took Sudafed. Another Avinza, more Vicodin, some Advil, spaced a few hours apart. Took the edge off, but pain still enough to make sleep impossible. Ice packs on knees, hips, jaw, and temples helped. Down all day yesterday. Went to the doctor this morning. Still had headache and joint aches, especially knees, ankles, and feet. Got antibiotics and more powerful Vicodin. Went home, took all my pills, and finally got some sleep. Not much fun.

I figure I was bitten by a Black Widow. The bite site has three red marks, with one main spot. Of course, I can't see it very well. Sore, but not much swelling. After two days, it developed a little head. I know the mower has had Black Widows on it before, because I killed one under the seat a few weeks ago. They're pretty common on my property. I won't take them lightly in the future.

First of all #72 is a Wolf Spider. My question, I've seen these spiders in 2 different states (Northern Mississippi, Southern Indiana) and I'm guessing they're probably harmless. I'd just like to know what they are. Haven't been able to take a picture b/c I'm insanely afraid of spiders of all types, and by the time I'm done smashing them there's nothing left but a smear in the carpet. And I can't find any images on the internet. They're maybe the size of a dime, some are black, some are brown, but they've always got little white spots. Always find them on ceilings or high up on the walls.

Bremerton, WA

Hello I live in Bremerton and I've only just moved here from California a month ago, so you can imagine my horror when I went to take a shower and found a huge hobo spider about 2 inches in diameter! I finally caught it and took it outside but I couldn't for the life of me justify letting it live so I decided I would kill it with chemicals. Unfortunately my sister doesn't keep anything toxic and even the bleach is non toxic so after mixing bleach and carpet cleaner and some other stuff in the cup with the spider and it just sitting there, I decided to put some lighter fluid in there too and catch it on fire...this did nothing because the spider was still under the fluid, so I poured him out on the ground and doused him in lighter fluid and he exploded in a fiery ball! It was wonderful. BUT the next morning o woke with a sore pimple on my upper part of my butt, and I'm feeling like tired now, I have pictures of the bite and the spider next to a quarter and I will send them right now. BUT PLEASE CAN SOMEONE TELL ME IF MY BITE IS A HOBO BITE? I HAVE A ONE AND A HALF YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND I DON'T WANT HER TO GET BIT PLEASE SOMEONE RESPOND!

So we have had this spider everywhere we have lived, its small only grows to be about 1inch and largest is about 1inch and half; its pure black and looks furry; the fangs are long and we usually find it in our home with no web. We live near the coast of WA and we don't know if its poisonous or not, we kill it every chance we get, I have a little brother about 6 and I'm worried about him because he likes to poke around at spiders and other insects, we have the brown recluse (think that's the right spelling) and the wolfs bane spider? I believe that's the other poisonous one, and my family and I have no idea what their appearances are. If you have any idea what the three might look like, please don't hesitate to tell me, even if you might not be 100% sure, please because it will be a big help.

With great hopes,

I just moved over this weekend to a house that was empty for a few months. I found a black widow spider and killed it of course. Someone commented here (I think on page 1 or 2) that if you see 1 black widow expect to see 25-30. Well yesterday I killed 25 brown widows and 45 eggs so I may have only 5 more to go... then to start the cycle again in a week. I am ready for them. This is my house!!!!!! MY HOUSE!!!!!!

I got bit Saturday night, it is now Wednesday. A very bad bruise and a lot of pain, you can see two marks where I think the spider bite. I'm not sure if it was a spider or not. The pain I really bad when I walk and sometime when I sleep it hurts so bad I can't sleep. Then today I noticed a little white head on one f the spots. I will email a pic, I am just wondering if you could help me figure out what bite me and if medical attention is needed. I don't have insurance so the hospital gets pretty expensive. Thanks for your in put.

Hi people,

Let me first just say, i know your irritation if you are dealing with Scabies. It has been driving me nuts for about 2 weeks now. What i have found for temporary relief at night time is calamine lotion. Use with cotton balls dab on effected area then leave on to dry then wear your normal things you would wear to bed and it should cover you till the next morning. But remember i do say temporary. I'm also using a oral antihistamine and a cream the doctor prescribed but in between everything else, you will occasionally still itch so that's where i use the calamine lotion and everything is starting to clear up.

Good luck guys
