My earliest encounters with spiders were with Garden Spiders, but I've only seen one in the past 20 years here in Michigan. Any ideas?

Where I live we have to about 20+ garden spiders every year. More than five of them like to camp out on one side of the house, the rest are scattered throughout the yard. I admit they are very pretty to look at and are interesting creatures. But still, spiders scare me. Its just a mild fear I inherited from my mother. When I was younger I used to throw grasshoppers into their webs to watch them scramble to them and roll them up. I do have a question though.

I was lying in my floor watching TV when I felt a tickling on my arm. I snatched it up and threw it aside thinking it was a wad of hair from my dog or something I looked and saw something white and fluttering. For a moment I was sad thinking I crushed a moth, then I took a closer look and saw it was a pure white spider with thin dainty legs, already dead. Oh yeah it scared me but intrigued me. I've never seen a white spider before. So does anyone know what kind of spider it was? (Just for everyone to know I don't hate spiders, I know what they do for the environment, we just have an unspoken agreement. If they're in my room, they stay on their side and I'll stay on mine. We'll be fine.)

Greg,

A friend of mine got a bite from a spider that he came across in his hay barn, it was a small brown spider, he thought nothing of it and carried on with his day.
A couple of hours later, on returning to the house he showed the bite on his thigh,to his wife, as it was starting to be rather painful. By the next morning his leg was swollen, and extremely painful, so his wife took him to emergency room. After question and answers it was determined that he had been bitten by a brown recluse spider, whose venom is deadly to humans. As it turned out he almost lost his leg and life. The anti-venom of the brown recluse spider is rare and he did not get it for 4 days, as a result he could not walk or work for over 3 months !!

Very beautiful creatures indeed. Not enough credit. Far too much criticism. I will gather, and send some great pics of my favorite orb weaver. Hopefully you can tell me what exact species it is.

HI. Enjoy your Web Site! I have some questions. My captive adult
female ( HOGNA GENUS ) WOLF SPIDER, "SUBURBAN" just rolled
an egg 2-14-2010. I'd like to keep a couple females and maybe
some males--all separately. Plus, I'd like to release the other
spiderlings somewhere safe, for them.
My QUESTIONS: How long before the SPIDERLINGS hatch?
How long do the ride on their Mother's back?
When can they begin hunting for prey, after they deboard her?
And will "SUBURBAN" continue living long after the SPIDERLINGS
have scattered? THANK YOU.
