Mosquito BiteThis is a Michigan Mosquito Bite (member of the family Culicidae).

My 4 year old daughter often helps me moderate this site and was recently bitten while playing in the yard. I fixed up the area and thought we were done until she told me that I need to take a picture and put it on the ’spider bite site’ for everyone to see : )

How could I refuse! Treatment consisted of a snow white Band-Aid and solicane spray.

8/27/07 – I noticed this red mark on my leg Sunday afternoon (8/26) but thought at first it was from me being curled up on the couch with my husband, I had my legs crossed up, you know. But then, a couple hours later it was bright red with a blister look about it. I had to go back to the e care doctor last night for something else, and while I was there I had him look at it. He said it was most likely just an insect bite and to try benedryl and hydrocortisone frist.

Well, today, I can really see two particular blister marks (bite marks? see picture below). We had a church garage sale on Saturday and then I walked through my grandmother’s yard, but we’ve also had a little spider party back on our patio, so who knows where it came from.

    Insect Bit Nicole

For the past couple of weeks I notice we were getting these spider webs on our patio and I would not let my kids go out there until our complex came and got rid of them. There were these webs (I call them wall cacoons) all over the place. They spayed one outside and then a week later outside/inside.

I never recall feeling anything “get” me but it’s getting worse. If it’s not better in the morning I am going to go to my family doctor. Any ideas, please let me know. The cream nor the bendryl hasn’t worked, so I am fixing to (from Texas) put an ice pack on it. Thanks.

It’s August and I am in the garden every day, surrounded by bees, bumbles, yellow jackets and tree spiders. (coastal area, rural west).

Nothing has been biting me, and we have few mosquitos this year due to dry weather. A week ago I scratched at a bite on my upper back but when it hurt I checked it out and saw two small puncture type holes. So I bathed it in hydrogen peroxide, put on a triple antibiotic, no bandaid. I continue to treat it this way, but with a bandaid cover now. Once I put a poultice made with golden seal on it.

It doesn’t itch, but my underarm lymph glands, both sides, are very sore and so is the back of my neck. The round red area around the bite hasn’t changed, and nothing oozes out of the bites. I have a headache every day, a rare event for me. Two days ago I could hardly get up in the morning, overall tiredness. I figured it was “peaking”.

The back muscles are sore, too. Soldiering on, through busy days anyway. Oh, I also dosed myself with minerals and selenium and B6, hoping to combat it. Energies are better anyway.

The photos helped me get an idea but the symptoms described are not the same. So I need more insight on this one! Thanks!

This photo was taken yesterday, three weeks after the actual bite. Is this a spider bite? I believe a got it while staying in an old cabin that had been unoccupied for at least four months.

I woke up with a chigger bite type sore on my inner forearm last week. I admit I scratched it in my sleep…it still itches like crazy. It oozed and scabbed over and the middle started to sink in. Anyway it took on the appearance of a ringworm with a dark open sore in the middle. Treatment for ringworm hasnt worked and several people have said that it looks more like some kind of insect bite.

    Insect Bite on Char

The picture above is hard to tell but it has a dark scab in the middle and its surrounded by a scaly scaby ridge. Both ooze if the scab is scratch (not on purpose!) Healing VERY SLOWLY if at all. Looks like it might actually scar. The latest appearance is that it looks like someone put a cigarette out on my arm and its healing. Ugh…Just wondering what it might be because my husband thinks I’m insane for sleeping on the couch.

    To Jennifer #50:

I had something similar happen to me the other night… I use the word similar lightly…

I live in western Michigan (in a large city about 40-50 miles from the lakeshore) and I was bitten by something on my foot while I was sleeping. I awoke and there were two circles under the skin, what looked like the equivalent of a bruise/blood blister venn diagram… The circles were coming together in the center. Around those circles was a large white area, and around that was a pinkish red circle, like a rash.

I literally watched the apparent bruised area disappear. And it left just a hard, warm to the touch, bright red area on my foot with two apparent “fang” marks seemingly symmetrically placed in the center.

However, our experiences are different in that my bite began with a burning sensation, now has made my whole foot itch, and is accompanied with a throbbing and crawling feeling under the skin in the affected area.

Is that anything like what you experienced? And if not, does anyone here have any clue as to what may have bitten me and whether or not I should seek medical attention?

My son got bit by some type of bug on Friday. I took him to the doctor today and they put him on an antibiotic and a steriod cream which seems to be helping. We just moved into a new house that was sitting unoccupied for over 3 years so there was a lot of high grass and its hot ,humid and raining heavy here.

We have SOO many insects we have seen many different species of spiders, milipedes, centipedes, fire ants, box elder bugs, water beetles, snapping beetles, silver fish, gran daddy long legs; I could go on forever.

Here are two pictures I took on 8/28/07 while he was sleeping. The bite area looks worse from the naked eye the camera didn’t get the full clear pic like I am seeing.

    Bug Bite on Desiree's Son

I don’t know what bit him but there’s one big bite it looks exactly like a bee sting but its not the outside is hard and sometimes it stays the color of his skin sometimes it turns red. It is very hard the outer part and it has a center its white sometimes or red. This is on
his right knee beside this big sore is a cluster of other bites I think about 7. They started the same way the big bite did and are also hard with one getting larger and all having a center.

I hope the medicine works as I can’t say if its painful but he does say ouch when I touch it or he’s just mad cause I keep bugging it by putting the cream on it. He’s only 2 yrs old.

I hate the fact a stupid bug did this. I got bit by a big ant on Saturday it hurt! On the back of my leg and luckly, no marks yet! Any ideas as to what could of done this? If so, please post your suggestions.

    Thanks!

I have about four insect bites, one on my side, two down below my waste line and the other on my arm. The one on my side is now growing and has formed little bumps all around it and what looks like hives have apeared on my upper stomach then around my neck line and my arms and hands but none on my legs…any suggestions??

Symptoms just to be clear include swelling and what looks like hives. So far, I haven’t been allergic to anything and I don’t have allergies but do have a problem with scratching too much. Please, any information would be helpful!

Something bit me on my arm this morning while I was laying on my sofa. I did see something black on my arm and I did feel the bite. It was a painful bite. I knocked it off my arm, But was unable to find what it was that bit me. My whole right arm appears to be bigger than my left arm.

I have 2 tiny marks on my arm. They look like pimples, one with a small darker spot in the middle of it (which was probably the actual bite) I have not tried to mash or squeeze it. It is only sore to the touch. But other than that it is fine, but still I am wondering was it a spider or what. Is it going to be worse in the morning when I get up or what is going to happen? someone please respond!~!! thanks!!!

    Madis insect bite

I got the bite in the picture on August 28th. At first, it was just a little bump, but the next day it grew into a large swollen bump.

This bite has effected my whole muscle, so it hurts to move my calve area. The bite itself is quite hard, and hot around the middle. The cut in the middle has grown a little but the size of the swollen part around it has stayed the same. I noticed I was starting to get a rash up my leg, but today it is very faint, and can only be notice it if you look closely.

I thought at first it was just a mosquito bite, but the next day I thought it was too large to be one, so I then thought it might be a spider bite.

I got bit about a week ago. I don’t have a camera to send pictures, but mine looks and sounds just like Joan’s in Number 61. I am not from North Carolina, but did just return from there. Curious, could I have gotten bitten there?

I was bitten or stung by something on Monday Aug. 27th on my right arm (see picture below).

    Bite on Arm

Started out as a “pimple-like” bump. I thought it was an infected hair so I squeezed it a little. Nothing. Then the itching began and the redness. I have no clue what bit me. By Monday night I had a huge red hard feverish bump with a sore in the middle. I went to the doctor on Tuesday because the spot was getting larger. Doctor said at that time was 7cm around and looked more like a bee sting than a spider bite.

I know what bee stings feel like and I never had any pain just itching at first. Doc told me to use ice compresses and hydrocortisone creme and sent me on my way. Wednesday morning I woke up and the redness had increased and was spreading. The area was very hard and painful, still feverish.

I called the Doc and he put me on 500mg of Keflex 3x day for 7 days. Today is Friday and alot of the redness is slowing decreasing but the muscles are still sore, and I still have a huge red spot and it’s still feverish. It does feel better but I just wanted to share and see if anyone could shed the light.

Update – 9/3, Today the scab was pulling off my arm and started oozing dark red pus, I kept squeezing and squeezing and got tons of infection out. There was a pus looking spot and I kept trying to get it out but it wouldn’t budge. After about 2 hours I tried to squeeze it again. More and more pus was pouring out of my arm. Finally one big squeeze and this green slimy thing popped out of the whole that now remains. I just wish I knew what bit me. Everyone who sees it tells me it had to be a spider bite. I’m pretty convinced of it after seeing the infection that is coming out. I’ll try to get a picture of it if I can.

    Update 9/29/07:
Since my last post, I went to the doctor the day after the infection started coming out. When I went to the doctor, the nurse said to me “That was a spider bite. I’ve never seen a bee sting look like that. It had to be a spider.” Now my doctor would never admit he was wrong. My doctor had to lance the spot open, cleaned it and then put in about an 8 inch drain tube in side the hole.

After 3 days he removed the packing and a nice hole remained. I was on Keflex for 14 days and lots of Advil for the pain. I’ve never experienced so much pain than I did with this bite. Today, the sweeling is almost gone. It still has scab that remains and a little bit of the redness is still there.

My advice to everyone, DON’T WAIT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. Get medical attention right away. Don’t just guess about it. You don’t want it to get any worse.

This is a note for Jo Ann, #61. I’m sure you’ve heard this already, but your rash looks suspiciously like poison ivy, not a spider bite.
I had a poison ivy rash that looked very similar only two weeks ago. It took 3 wks to leave my system.

This morning when I woke up I had definite swelling and tenderness in my right foot. After walking around it felt a little better but it was still sore. I did not notice any marks on my foot. This evening when I got home for work and I was getting changed it felt as if there was a piece of scotch tape stuck to the inside of my pants. I then noticed that there was a quarter size welt high up on my inner thigh. That is why I cannot send a photo.

The spot does not itch but it is extremely tender when I touch it. There is a dark pinpoint in the middle of the welt. My foot is still sore and swollen. I was wondering if this was a spider bite. I did not see any dead bugs in my bed and I seldom see spiders around my home. I live in Northern California.. in the wine country.

Other then the tenderness of the bite and swelling and soreness of my foot/toes I have no other symptoms. I will go to the doctors if it becomes worse. Does any have any ideas for me on what this could be????

It looks like you don’t have a spider bite, but instead you have shingles. This is a result of having the chicken pox some time in the past (maybe as a kid). You might want to get that checked out and get some medicine for it. With medicine, it will go away soon!

    Dawn,
How is your little girl now? My son just got bit under the eye and it looks exactly like your daughters. At first I thought it was a large mosquito bite in the morning and by the afternoon, his eye had swelled and turned red underneath. It also feels like there is something in there when I touch it. He’s acting normally, but I called the doc and she said to give him benedryl to bring down the swelling and if he starts to act differently bring him to the ER.

    Hope everything is okay!

I saw the picture of the little girl in #39. My daughter’s eye’s swell tremendously fom mosquito bites as well as the rest of her body . In fact, today, her eye looks just like that girls in the picture. Before she was three, she had to take steroids to reduce swelling if bitten on her face- her eyes would swell shut. Now that she is a few years older, I just give her benadryl and it seems to work after a few days.

I was camping on Oregon coast, got bit on the back of the thigh, within first hour to 5″ round and was hot to touch and ached. now 3 days later the swelling went away but it itches and two “fang” holes are visable. Any thoughts on what it may be??

    #123. September 4th, 2007 at 8:08 am

I don’t actually have a picture of my bite, but about 3-4 days ago I woke up with a bite on the backside of my middle thigh. It first started out hard, warm, and red. Slowly, over the next day or two, the bites started to swell up and the redness is now about 4 inches in diameter. Within the last could of days the bites are now a white-ish, gray color, burn slightly, are warm, and the redness has grown with the entire red area raising up. I am not experiencing any systemic problems, just locallized effects. I’ve just been cleaning it with soap in the shower and putting neosporin on it. My mom suggested this stuff for horses (she’s a little crazy like that, but she does use her horse products on herself so I’m not worried) that is supposed to draw pus and such out of wounds and I was wondering if maybe I should use it.

This is the second or third time this has happened; always in the same spot. The bites usually take about 2-3 weeks to heal. I’ve looked up and down and all around the internet trying to figure out what this is. The bite is more of an inconvience than anything else. I’d just really like to know how to treat it and what might be causing it.

I live in Washington state, in a desert like area.

    Thank you.

When I woke up three days ago I noticed a raised bump the size of a typical mosquito bite on my inner thigh. It does not itch or hurt at all. The next day I developed progressively worse muscle pain and tightness all over my body. It’s now to the point where I can barely get out of bed in the morning and I have trouble walking, etc. Even my fingers hurt.

I am an avid arrowhead hunter and one day before noticing the bump, I walked through about knee high grass and weeds to get to a field. I live in southern Ohio. I’m getting headaches (but I am a chronic headache sufferer so it’s difficult to tell if they are related to the bite or not). The bite is now spreading out like a typical mosquito bite – is less raised and more splottchy or bruised looking. It’s very difficult for me to move into position to take a decent photo.

I have no other symptoms – no fever or localized pain or itch to the bite (except being very tired – could be from the benedryl though). My lymph nodes seem fine. It’s the only bite on my body as far as I can tell. What could this be? I don’t want to focus on a possible bite if it’s masking something else totally unrelated. It just seems wierd to me, though, that the symptoms all came on so suddenly. Thanks for any insight people might have.

    @ #79:
Perhaps you were stung by a caterpillar? They have barbs on them that can remain in your skin, and perhaps that’s was came out at the end of your efforts? Or, also plausible is that you had been stabbed with a thorn, and got an infection from that.

I have some sort of bite on my knee (right of kneecap) that sounds very much like post 36’s story and looks somewhat like Post 2’s picture. (camera is not working right now).

I dont know what happened to it. Approx 2.5 days ago I saw a small black spot on my knee. I picked it off (assuming i just cut myself and blood dried) and didnt notice anything. Yesterday at work about 1.5 days ago it started to swell and hurt a bit when I walked. I went and asked the pharmacist what it was and they assumed it was a spiderbite. I got a cream for it that they told me to get. Ive put it on and taken aleve to try to slow swelling and slight pain. ANd when I do all those and Ice it, i really dont feel any pain. Right now it only hurts when I fully walk due to the kneecap rubbing against the inside of it. Its Hot also.

However I have about 7 mosqueto bites on my body due to being outdoors the other day and it could have been then it happened.

Anyway, if it gets worse I might hit the medcare place in town in the morning, but Im hoping not.

Any idea of what it is.

Here are pictures of my bite on day 3 and 4. I got bit sometime Monday (9/3). At first I thought it was an itch mite (epidemic in Chicago area) because I had three bites in July similar to how this one started. However this one expanded with a rash. It is now over 2 inches in diameter.

I went to the doctor on day 3 (9/5) and was told to use Neosporin, hydrocortisone cream, and take benadryl. I am pregnant and they are trying to avoid antibiotics. Here are pictures below.

    Bite on Robyn

I don’t seem to have all of the symptoms of the brown recluse bite. It is not hard in the middle and I don’t have purple-grey skin although it is very dark red. I’ve read the purple-grey and an oozing blister shows up within 96 hours and it’s certainly been that long. I have no idea what this is. Any help?

    Thanks,
    Robyn

    Update 9/11/07:
Mindy- Thanks for your comments. I too believe that it just a localized allergic reaction from a spider bite. I went back to my doctor after it spread a little and it was turning purplish. She gave me a stonger prescription topical antibiotic and told me to keep up with the Benadryl. The itch is gone and it is no longer swollen. She attributed the purple color to bruising from the trauma to my skin and it is indeed turning colors like a bruise. Hopefully it won’t take too long to fade away.

My son has had bumps that resemble whiteheads (pimples) but they keep growing…they are very sore to the touch and eventually come to a “head” and pop…oozing with pus. We believe that the systemic and topical antibiotics are keeping the size under control…we are applying mupirocin, and the Dr. prescribed Augmentin (both covering strep or staph.) My husband now has the same thing on his arm, see the picture below.

This comment is for #76, I got bit on Wednesday night (sept.5) on my fore-arm and I also thought is was a mosquito bite, it itched so bad, but by the next morning it was so swollen around the area, raised up a little (like a hive) and was warm to touch, and itches a lot, but it also hurts when you press on it.

Right now it looks the same as your picture and I did notice that I have a rash (I think) that is on both arms and on my chest and neck that looks like very tiny faint red clusters/splotches… and I have been putting topical spray (cortizone or benadryl) on the bite and it reduces the itching for a bit, but then again starts to itch very bad again.

I also took benadryl so I am hoping something helps…I am planning to go to the doctor tomorrow (sept.7) because I don’t think what I am doing is helping and I don’t have a clue what kind of bite it is. I will keep you posted to what your bite may be and for anyone out there who may know what type of bite it may be and could let me know that would be a great help.

We live in NE Oklahoma. My hubby went out in the woods yesterday to work on his hunting site and was bit by something. He did not know he was bitten until he got home. The area is LARGE. It is covering one whole side of his lower arm (between wrist and elbow). I cannot see an actual puncture or bite sight. The entire area is raised, red and has a lot of heat in it. He says that there are times that is throbs and other times of pain. Any idea what bit him?

@#90: Sharon – This sounds like a tick bite. You should see the doctor ASAP; Lyme disease tests are not that great so you may want to get checked several times for that.

  35. Mindy
    #135. September 10th, 2007 at 1:39 am

Robyn – I think you are having an allergic reaction to a common spider bite – nothing poisonous since you haven’t experienced a loss of sensation or a lack of blood flow to tissue (necrosis). Keep up with the antihistamines and I would recommend using ice to help with the swelling, and alternate with heat to kill any bacteria. I would also suggest a menthol-based lotion for the itch, like aveno’s.

    #136. September 10th, 2007 at 1:44 am

    @#94:
I think you need to check your beds in your household. These could be spider bites or bed bugs. Bed bugs will hide in the crevices of your mattress, so get out a flashlight and peel back the covers. Spiders might also be hiding behind the bed’s headboard or near the wall of the bed, where they can make webs that go undisturbed. It could also (!) be flea bites. Diatoms can help with that problem. But those bites look a lot larger than a flea bite.

I have had a similar bite as to a mosquito, after i came back from a cmping trip. This was no ordinary mosquito bite, as it grew in 3-4days in to a hurting large pimple. The white SINGLE head i thought was a pus pimple, i itched it and it felt like fire shoting into my claf muscle. This continued to hurt yet NOT itch for 2weeks, At one point it was the size of a half a golf ball. Then the pus came out and a scab remained for 1-2 more weeks until the blood was not seeping. What was that? I am 35 and live in minnesota, we have mosqitos but … this was very painful.

I noticed about 15 bites on my belly 9 days ago. I was staying at an old “camp” at a lake in Vermont. I thought it was poison ivy at first (red dots, then bumps, but only slightly itchy). Now there are dark scabs just like in Wade’s photo, and I’m getting a little more pain each day. I’m curious as to what you’ve learned about it, how you treated it and how you’re doing.

    LA –
I’m not sure if anyone replied to you, but I’m betting that there may be fleas in your apartment. You could have brought them in from outside or was around someone else’s dog, if you don’t own any animals yourself. I got bit up quite badly once when my dog got them.

This morning I thought I was having a nose bleed, I take asprin. I looked in my moustache and saw a black spot. Tonight when I got home I scratched the top and after cleaning the blood and pus, pulled a fang about 3/16 inches out of my upper lip as shown in the picture below.

    Fang

It was completely under the skin. I have a hole that size now. Let you know if it gets worse. Any ideas what got me in my sleep?

    UPDATE 9/14/07:
Three days later and all it got was about a 1/4 inch hole. Skin peeling about the size of a dime. Seems to be healing now. Hunted all over for the spider, no luck.

In the picture below, you can see the damage from a bite I received on Saturday. This spotty brown and purple brusing is surrounding the bite but not on it- the bite itself is red with a puncture wound.

    Insect Bite on J

The Bruising is spreading and it looks as though they’re actually hard little knots under the darkest portion of the bruising. I live in NJ if that helps and received the bite while in my basement sorting through some old boxes.

    Thank you!

I live in Florida and was working in the yard 2 weeks ago. I thought I had a mosquito bite, but it went away and now I have a large cyst-like hard bump on my right forearm that is getting larger at the same area of the “bite”. I have no itching or apparent redness. Just a large growing superficial, hard cyst-like ball on my right forearm. What do you think?

I woke up this morning with an incredibly bad itch right near my right ankle. I asked my wife about it when she woke up and she thinks it’s a spider bite.

It doesn’t seem bad compared to some of the other stuff I’ve read on this page, but I tend to panic easy with health issues. :)

I scratched the heck out of it earlier this morning, and my wife told me to put some Bactine on it to stop the itching, and I did. It’s not itching anymore, and I decided to take some pictures of the area. There appear to be a couple of “groups” of these things. My wife said “It’s like something got on your leg, and saw it as a buffet”. Anyway here are the pictures:

Insect Bite on Joe's Leg 1

Insect Bite on Joe's Leg 2

Insect Bite on Joe's Leg 3

The red in picture one is nowhere near that pronounced on my leg, that’s my camera doing that. It is red somewhat, but I was just scratching it before I took the pictures. In Picture 3 you can see some “freckles” that I’ve had on my leg for years – I doubt it’s related, since it’s been there forever.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

    Update from Joe:
    Re: 110.

These have pretty much gone away, the only marks left are from the worst ones where I scratched a lot. I now think I was bitten by a mosquito. Several times, since I had about 13 of them around my ankle. :(

I can’t speak for Wade, but mine looks exactly like his photo and turned out to be SHINGLES. They start off with red dots then turn into white bumps, then become filled with pus that look like the photo. They range from mild to severe.

Regarding the mysteriuos bedbugs/spiders ??? rash mostly occurring at night. I too have been battling this problem for a few years. Mostly during warmer weather, but living in so. cal is alot of the time. My arms, wrists and sometimes upper torso area will suddenly begin to itch ferociously to the point that I would rather feel pain than itch this bad. I can never find any reason for the itch. No bumps, rash, bugs, nothing. And it lasts for several days up to a week or sometimes two, then goes away just as mysteriously as it came.

When I wake up in the mornings after this itch I have red bumps scabbed and cratered, sheets blood spotted from scratching all night and I am scarring on my hands and wrists. I have not been able to locate so much as a flee in my bedroom. My bed is new and no matter what I do I continue to suffer from this regardless of where I sleep or how much I clean. I’m the only one in the house who gets this bite/rash causing insane itch.

Can Anybody HELP!!!????!!??……PLEASE Brenda, San Diego

My boyfriend got this bite 9/15, mowing the grass. He says it is a wasp, I said that is no wasp I have ever seen and I’ve lived in Florida all my life and have been stung by wasp and they never looked like that. There was a blister on top which he popped and it was clear, now it just looks like a hole with pus in it, and very red around it. Does anyone know what kind of bite this is? Looks like a spider to me….

I live in Arkansas and i was outside a lot today and was bit by what i initially thought to be a mesquito (thats how small the swollen area was). It itched but i didn’t scratch it, i ignored it and went about my yard work. Now its been about 2 hrs later and its nearly 2 inches around, hard to the touch, hurts to touch, and it feels hot in comparison to the surrounding skin. I’m originally from Arizona so i have no clue what it is…… can anyone help? I’ll send a picture soon, my cam batt’s need to charge.

I’m studying in Beijing, China and received what I’m pretty sure are multiple spider bites about a week ago. They were almost exactly the same size about a 1/4 in or less apart and about a 1/8in in circumference. They are about a 1/2 in from my waist line so my pants probably have been rubbing against them.

    Insect bite from Matt

In the picture above, you can see they are raised and this morning when I woke up one has started to grow and a clear ‘pus’ has started to seep if I push around them.

For the past 3 summers that we live here in TX, I have been getting something only from the neck up mainly on my scalp.

It only occurs when I mow and I am on a small tractor. We have some small trees that I sometimes ride under I don’t know if these are the cause. The bites are only on my scalp and now I get what appears to be a mosquito bite and then it gets larger and itchy after an hour or so. They ooze pus,Then after 3-5 days, scabs and goes away. I got two newer ones yesterday and didn’t mow, these are the same as the others but on my neck where my hairline starts

While I have these bites, when I go out in high heat temps, they itch like mad! Does anyone else get this and what the heck could it be? I am in central TX

My girlfriend got bit by what was called the itch bug by her dermatologist. We were boating here in Iowa and only she got bit by it. The bites formed bubbles a few days after that. She never felt any bite feeling at the time. Now like around half a year after this happened they are still there and have caused psoriasis like symptoms that seem to get bigger and spread.

I have googled the itch bug and everything like that and I have no idea what to do for it. I don’t have any pictures yet but I will try to get some soon. The spots really do look like psoriasis now. She originally had two bites on the back of her left thigh and on her hand. Now even after what the dermatologist “did for her”, it has turned to two on that leg, two on the other leg, and just one on her hand. And they are itchy and sore feeling. They are like a pile of small read bumps.

I guess this so called itch bug gets under your skin and bites you so many times in the same spot you get what turns into psoriasis, but I want to find a cure for her. Help me if you can

I am a teacher in Central Ohio. I have no idea when I was bitten, but I noticed a dime-sized HARD red lump, slightly raised, but mostly under my skin four days ago. It is tender to the touch and slightly itchy. There is a very tiny ‘hole’ where the lump is, which leads me to believe it is an insect or spider bite. There has been no change since I first noticed the bump (no increase or decrease in size nor pain) There is no blackness, blistering, pusing, or whiteness. I haven’t noticed any other symptoms except low-grade headaches and a slightly stiff neck and back (probably unrelated?)

Any ideas? At what point should I see a doctor?
    Thanks

My 13 year old son was bitten by something last week. We live in the Philadelphia suburbs. He has 2 bites – 1 on his leg and 1 on his stomach. They are EXTREMELY painful – he has trouble walking for too long and has needed to wear shorts so pants don’t rub against the one on his leg. We managed to pop the one on his leg, which relieved some pressure but not pain. It is very hard and hot all around the bite and even on the part of his leg around it that isn’t red.

    Insect Bite picture 01

We took him to the dr. yesterday since it was getting worse each day. She gave him an antibiotic and said warm compresses, but he can’t even do that. This is a kid who rarely complains about pain at all, so it must be bad.

    Insect Bite picture 02

The dr. said the black thing in the middle was a scab from scratching, but he did not scratch it…and the black thing was there from the first time he noticed it. It looks like a plug that if it came out would leave a hole, here are more pictures:

The photo below is of an insect bite located on the inside of my right upper arm. There is no pain, no drain (since it was pierced with a pin earlier today). I’ve kept a band-aid on it all day, the marks around the bite are from a round band-aid I just pulled off for the photos.

Hi there, I have had this sort of bite before but these are the worse, please see the pictures below:

    Bite on Jo

    Bite on Jo's Leg

I have about 15 of them (only 2 are as bad as the pic) on my lower legs! They start out small and itchy like a mosquito bite, but soon become VERY itchy and a welt develops around them, which is bright red (sunburn color) and hot and firm to the touch.

Within 24 hours, a blister forms and unfortunately I have scratched one, resulting in an obscene amount of pus. The hot, red area around it remains itchy but the swelling and heat are reduced. These are photos of the worst one, I covered it with a Band-Aid to prevent scratching and see how bad the blister would get. Now there is a dark red area around it! Freaky…anyone know what kind of bite it is or how to treat it? More importantly, how to prevent it??

In the morning i noticed 2 red bumps between my neck and chin around a half of a inch apart, it just looked like a pimple. i didnt consider it a bite or sting since i had stayed up the whole night on a project. in the middle of school i realized i was itching it, it was itchy earlier, and before was size tip of pinky, now was the size of the thumb, i figured it was just cause of the itching and went to nurse and she just gave me cream.

When i was home i watched a movie with my parents and fell asleep, i have exzema [excessive dry skin] and i have a problem were i itch in my sleep, but not my neck, i itched my shoulders and neck line. when i woke up, the wound on my neck is the size of a fist, my right shoulder i looked at the bites that looked like pimples, white tip red circle, but these were more brown tip ligherkinda white circle.

I also noticed the white is very stiff, i looked at my left shoulder and i has visible scratches, red, and the pimple it was all puffy i touched it and the white underneath my skin moved thickly. i was in a lot of pain too they were burning and throbbing. and i think i about got sick from this, i went to the bathroom and the white thick pusy stuff was on my cheeks with hole in middle.

Two of the pimple look a like but are harder than the others by each temple, i went to put my hair up, and i noticed 2 little [2millimeters] orange circles [maybe was color of starting scab?] top and bottom, right along ear hairline, they were perfectly apart from each other, then i found the same thing on the other side of my face.

I’mreally freaked out cause my parents say they cant do anything till we go to the doctor, but i was hoping maybe someone could help me in the meantime. I have never had any of this before.

About 4 days ago I got up with a stinging sensation in the neck area, right side and in the back of my neck along the hairline. I thought nothing of it other than probably several mosquito bites since we had had some unusual rainy weather. As of today, the morning of the fifth day I have several (approx 8-10) bite marks all over the same area. See photo below:

    Bite on Rays neck

I thought I had been scratching during the night and began putting topical antiseptic and taking Benadryl. The photos of the bites was taken yesterday and I hope that someone can help who has seen this sort of thing before. Thanks.

I have the exact same looking bite on my rear-end as your son. I got bit about a week and a half ago. From the moment I noticed it I also had the black hard like spot in the middle of the bite. I just scratched it tonight in the shower, the scab fell off and notw it is like a sunken hole with a red ring still around it. I live in Texas and have no idea what kind of bite this is. The area around the ring is hard to the touch and still hurts! Did you find anything out?

I have a red rash at my lower part of my leg. My family and I have been to the fair today. I felt a little sticking, like a little pin poking me in that area earlier today. Didn’t think anything about it until we got home and I was getting ready for bed, and saw a red rash. What made me notice it then was it was itching and when I strached it, it hurt when I strached it. I have been sick to my shomache all day, also I’ve had a headache all today as well. I didn’t ride any rides today at all, the headaches and the sickness on my stomache couldn’t be from rides. The headache will not go away I’ve took some strong pain meds. to get to go away. I’ve not ever seen a rash like this before on me.

I have a bite on my right lower leg, and i have had it for almost 2 weeks, some people thought it was a poison of some sort, but my friend told me it was a spider bite. I have been sweating, nausea, constipation, weakness, not being able to pay attention in college, stomach pains, and it is black in the middle, with a big rash surrounding it, it doesnt itch, unless the black scab thing comes off then it is black again in a few seconds, i have had a yellowish pus come out of the black area, and i dont want to get it checked out unless someone can actually tell me i need to.

Friday afternoon my 2yr old son was bit by some kind of an insect. Thinking it was a mosquito, I gave him benadryl….hours later the bump on his eyebrow swelled up. By night time his eye was completely shut. The next morning his farhead, eyebrow and eyelid was double the size. His eye was filled with fluid and was shinny and red. We took him to the doctor who believes it was something in the roach family. I was at the park when it happened, (in N.J.)so the roach theory to me is out of the question. He was prescribed a steriod and a anti inflamatory. Saturday night he was slightly able to open his eye. Today is Monday and his eye is open, but still a little red and droopy. Please let me know what u think.

My arm began stinging intensely in the middle of the night while I was visiting friends, so I never saw what bit me, but in the morning, there were three tiny blister-like bumps on the inside of my left arm. I popped and squeezed them to relieve the stinging and itching, thinking they were an allergic reaction to something – I didn’t pay close attention. But then the area swelled more and I had to squeeze them again. You can see what the bites look like in the picture below.

    Bites on Tania

I had a disinfectant “Silvacide” spray with me that I sprayed on them (containing antibacterial silver particles in a pH-balanced base). Upon arriving home on Sunday afternoon, I noticed a strange pink zig-zag-like line running down my arm away from the area of the bites, towards my wrist. It struck me as odd, but I felt okay. Not sure what to do, I squeezed the bites again (to break the skin), washed them with Silvacide and put oregano oil on the bites and pink areas before going to bed (Oreganol = a blend of pure oregano oil and olive oil). Oregano oil is a powerful antibiotic. I put a bandaid over the bites to keep the oil from getting on my bed sheets.

This morning, it seemed just as inflamed as before. The pink zig-zag line was still there but had not advanced. It’s been very itchy and irritated today – the bite areas are raised and hard. They feel simultaneously achey and itchy the way hives do. Only this evening, since the thing is persisting, did I consult with an outdoorsy friend who seemed to think it was a spider bite that I should be concerned about.

I took a Kyolic garlic (as in internal antibiotic) and found this website. Based on the pink line running from the bites, I am inclined to think I was bitten by something poisonous. I read here that the line indicated a poisonous bite and I am wondering if there is something more I should do to treat this.

Another friend has just suggested that I put baking soda on in as a paste overnight after, again, squeezing them to break the skin. I will do this next, but would appreciate any insights and suggestions. I have no health insurance and no primary care physician. I am 42. In the photo below is an overview of the inflamed area with the pink zig-zag line running down my arm.

Hi. I haven’t recently been bit recently, but about 4 years ago I was on vacation in Cancun, Mexico, when I believe I was bite by a spider. It was on my outer right thigh and it started out looking like a regular mosquito bite. After a while it spread up to my butt with a horrible raised rash. Now every so often I get bite by a bug and I get very puffy and itchy. I was actually bite on my foot and also on my calf last night, and they look like rashes and are not raised at all just like a red spreading color. I don’t know if my being bite originally has anything to do with my reactions.

Is it possible to have a bite that swells up into a bump, itches like crazy, you scratch and pop it and then it moves??? I’ve been having this for about a month now, and don’t have health insurance. Is there any way to do a home remedy? I’m really worried..I’m not sure that it’s a spider bite, been bit by a brown recluse before…doesn’t have that bullseye effect, more of a bump like a bad zit that itches.

I HAVE been having spider bites for most of the summer. The pictures shown of the red expanding areas are typical but I also have three large black areas on my thighs. The doctor said the black is dead skin from the spider’s venom.

We to took our sleep number bed completely apart and cleaned and vaccumed, nothing found. I washed all the bed linen in HOT water as the doctor directed.
The only spiders I have seen were yesterday in the kitchen–one on the window sill and the other on my shirt. They were TINY about the size of a pin head and scampered quickly.

Our daughter suggested we do all areas of the baseboards with boric acid powder. Haven’t done that yet but will let you know if it works!!

Our doctor prescribed a cream stronger than Bacatracin. I pick that up today.

I have an insect bite and I have no idea what it is. A couple of days ago, I noticed a small blistery area on my right forearm. It started to itch about 3 hours after I noticed the blistery area. At this time, it was about the size of a pimple. It was very itchy and I started scratching it without really realizing it. Now, about 2 days later, it is still there and itches just as bad.

    Bite on Crystal's Arm

The bite location in the picture above is very little. It is hollow however. Like it got scraped out. There isn’t really a raised area like there is with mosquito bites. Then there is an area that is about an inch and a half around that is red and irritated. The red area just keeps getting bigger. I haven’t been scratching it lately. Putting hydrocordisone cream on the location helps for a while, but I’ve gone through a lot today. Any ideas?

    Hi,
Just noticed a round red blotch on my left calf about a week ago. I think there were some tiny white bumps in the middle, but I can’t be sure. Now it’s like Sheila #168 describes: black & sort of scabby in the middle, slightly raised, though I haven’t scratched it off. Weird thing is no noticible itch or pain, just yucky to look at. I started loading on the antibiotic cream at the beginning but that didn’t seem to work. I also scrubbed it & tried some bug bite ointment my mom has & bandaged it up. When I took the bandage off the next day there was a black section in the middle. Still the same size–about 1/4″ & round red blotchy area at the perimeter. Will send picture when I get my camera phone. Any suggestions?

Im from northeast ohio and was bitten by a spider about 5 days ago. after waking up on a friens couch i noticed a small round spot that hurt slightly the next day it was a little bit bigger and felt warm and the pain had also increased a little bit, on the third day it started to swell even more and sitting down with my belt and pants touching it started to become increasingly uncomfortable, yesterday i went to the doctor and they told me it was an infected insect bite and gave me an antibiotic and told me to keep a warm compress on it. today when i woke up it was about the size of a silver dollar if not a little bigger. the bite is red with a pinkish purple tint in the middle with a small area in the middle that looks like dried skin like a very small scab was picked off. it hurts to the touch and brings tears to my eyes when my pants press on it……can anyone tell me what this is? i am unable to get pictures because the cam is extremely blurry

The bite I have looks like yours.
I was biten by something 2 weeks ago on the top of my left foot. I didn’t even realize it until later. There was no pain until later. I thought I had broken a bone in my foot. My foot and toes are swollen aa is the ball and it is impossible to put pressure on it. Has anyone else had delayed pain? I really don’t know what and where it came from, but suspect it happen when I was watering the plants without shoes. I have been on antibiodics for 2 weeks. I am on the 3rd round of a different one. It is very so to heal. Ultra sound and Xrays are normal but the foot is not. I missed 5 days of work having to elevate and ice it down. It is very painful and swollen still and I must use crutchers to get around at work.

I have something on my leg. I don’t know if it is a bite or what. It looks like a cigarette burn but I don’t smoke and have not been around any burning cigarettes. Could it be a spider bite without any holes in it? Could it be a blister bug?

A picture of the bite is below:

    Hello,
These are pictures of what we believe is a spider bite that my friend has – to me it appears to be similar to #110 and #113. 2 days ago he noticed the itchy red bump. The bite site is hard and it hurts. The surrounding red area also hurts – it hurts to the touch. The red area does not really appear in the pictures but it is there for a span of 5 inches. It was worse yesterday. He lives in the St.Louis, MO area.

    Bite from Sassy

Any ideas as what kind of spider it was and whether or not he should go to the doctor?
    Thanks!

Let me preface this by stating I do not have sensitive skin in regards to mosquitto bites. I never welp up or even show red spots so I’m concerned this is a spider bite.

Opening morning of Texas archery season was this morning. Was in my stand an hour before sunrise. I was sitting there and felt something I never felt before. A small concentrated sharp pain that felt like it was traveling up my left arm and finally stopped about mid-bicep.

I thought nothing of it until maybe 15 minutes later my wrist started burning with slight irritation. Once there was enough light to actually see, I looked at my wrist and seen a red blotch with what looks like a single puncture mark in the center. It’s located over a vein and figured tha’s why I felt the pain travel up my arm as it was in the blood stream.

    Chad's Bite

Now that I’m home a white ring is around the red blotch. I found this site and took pictures hoping someone can verify the bite.

    Thanks-
    Chad

I don’t have a picture to post right now, but will later. My spots are; under my lower left arm and behind my left ear. Started out as a small red raised spot. Now have developed into a raised area around them and with itching. The raised area is about the size of a quarter. Waiting and watching. If they get worse, I will post another pic.

Have him get to a doctor. He needs to be treated with some antibiotics. Read my update. It does look like mine. Mine hurt like crazy. Advil is the only thing that cut the pain and I took 2 every 5 hours. After a week, it busted open and now it is over 1 month later and it still remains a little. Looks like a spider bite for sure. It’s a long healing process once it busts open. Take my advice, seek medical attention!

Hi, I lived in England when this started and now live in costa calida spain. I hope someone can help me, because this has been going on for 3-5years now. The 1st very red spot i got didn’t bother me because it was not itchy or sore, after a couple of weeks it formed a flaky skin on top and eventually it dropped of, and no mark was left.

    Bites on Margaret

Over the next few months i got more and my doctor did a byopsy on one, results nothing. Over the years now, they are getting bigger and can take about 2-3 moths to clear up, but as soon has they are gone more keep coming. I get the red spots on my legs and arms, i have only have had 2 or 3 on my body. Sometimes i think there is actually something living inside me. I have tried creams, antiestamine tablets, sprays and cannot go outside now without wearing long trousers, by the way i am now 57, and have never had skin problems at all before.

It may not be bites the doctor hasn’t a clue either. What can i do ? Is there someone out there who can help? I’m very depressed now because there is nowhere to turn.

    Margaret.

has anyone ever heard of or actually experienced a spider bite in middle ear. it would be very difficult to photograph. it is so painful. it is like a blister that keeps growing. there is quite a bit of pus excrementing from site. there is also a very sensitive & painful sore covered by a scab made of mostly dried pus & blood. it crossed my mind aseveral times that a spider layed eggs in my warm dark middle inner ear. i am sure an ER visit is in my very near futhouughts or cure. any tomments would be so appreciated. oh, by the way, i found a dead brown spider in my bed yesterday. i can take a picture of that if anyone thinks it couldbe helpful. thanks soooo much!

I was wondering if you have ever found out what bit you. My granddaughter is two years old and has a bite on the inside of her leg that matches yours exactly. When you said yours was healing slowly it at all, that is how her’s is. She has had this on her for a month or more. I keep putting Bacitracin on it which helps a lot but it won’t go away. I was just wondering if you found out anything.

    Hello,

The picture below is of a bite on my right thigh and I first noticed it Sunday, 9-30-07. The area is very tender to touch. I have a fever, approx. 100 F, pain in joints, stiff neck, nausea sometimes. I don’t think I can see anything in there such as a deer tick.

Any help is greatly appreciated, ASAP (lol) So I can hopefully stop worrying!!!!!

Hi there. I really hope you all can help.

I have three bites (2 on my right leg and 1 on my left leg). The one on my left leg is about a week old, and the 2 on my right leg are newer. I have been trying to determine the possible cause of these bites. I have eliminated the possibility of bed bugs (since we followed all the checks suggested by this website including glue traps). It’s most likely not in the apartment as I am the only one getting them, thus I think it is likely it’s something at work (they recently moved where I was sitting, and we are in the basement of a large office building, where they are doing a lot of construction) or on mass transit has been biting me, as all 3 are on my lower ankle/leg, right above where my shoes would be and around the hem of my pants.

As I said this one is about a week old. It is still a bit of a bump, and itches slightly. When I first got it, it was just a small red bump, which grew a little bit, and now has shrunken again.

This one is new. I have been scratching it like crazy since maybe Tuesday. It is a small red lump, and looks exactly like the one that was on right ankle, when it first showed up. From scratching, I know I have really irritated the area. There was a small head on it, and I popped it. A lot of clear fluid exited the wound. I cleaned the wound with rubbing alcohol, put on some anti-itch cream and covered it with an antibacterial band aid. It continues to itch, but the swelling has gone down a bit since I popped it.

This one is also new and is on the top of my ankle. This is the one that is the most annoying. It is a round red lump, its warm to the touch and itches like no one’s business. I have been scratching around it so as not to cause the same problem as with the one on the back of my ankle. Additionally, because of it’s location it makes it uncomfortable to walk.

I really apologize for the poor quality of the pictures, but it’s hard to take pictures of your own ankles. I am not sure it’s a spider bite, I’ve been bitten by spiders before and had worse reactions. Also a friend of mine who is an anthroentomologist and he said that the bites don’t seem consistent with my former experience.

I feel fine otherwise; my shoulder hurts but I believe that is more related to overplaying tennis earlier in the week then a bite. I am unable to take benadryl as I am highly allegric to it.

Thank you all for your help!

i noticed this bite i had on the inside of my elbow right where it bends. it was pretty small and pink kind of like a mesquito bite and it itched but then i noticed that it had two holes in it that were lined up perfectly so i knew it was a spider bite. i scratched (not very smartly) and little red dots all over it and around that you could hardly see unless you looked really close.and since it was so small i didn’t think that it was that big of a deal but then later two other small pink bumps without holes showed up along side of the spider bite. i was wondering if those could have been from the poison spreading.

    To Tania S #170:

I have a very similar bite (on the back of my thigh/knee area). Mine too happened in the middle of the night, so I didn’t see what bit me. It is red, sore, feverish, & swollen. I also have a traveling zig zag like line coming from the bite. The only side effects I’m feeling are muscle soreness/cramping around my knee & sort of down my calf when I stand, but not when I’m lying down. The bite occured this past Friday night (the 5th) & I noticed the red line this morning (the 7th). I was wondering if you’ve found anything else out, seen a doctor, or have had any changes since your post. Also, I am in the Philadelphia, PA area; what area did your bite occur? I have included 2 pictures below, one of the bite & the other of the traveling red line. Any help is much appreciated, thank you.

We just moved into a house that was vacant over a year. We have small spiders mostly in basement. We also moved in boxes that had been in storage for a few months. My two year old has a bite on her wrist. We first noticed it in the morning on 10/8 white in center with red streaks on outside. Center is about the size of a quarter. It was very sore to touch. Now the center is bruising, redness still on outside. Could this be a spider bite or something else? We checked her bedding for any other creatures and found nothing. We did call the doctor and they said to just watch it. We have her on Motrin, Allegra and cream on the bite.

    Hi,

My symtoms look like the article in 30 and 41. I’ve gone to numerous doctors and still no hope in finding what caused this. I first started getting this about 2 years ago and It comes and goes. Was Terry DuBose (30) or Hillary C (41) able to find out what bit them or any information on how to get rid of them. Please help.

For the past three months I have had many “spider bites” two welts close together. They are mostly on my right buttock. Do spiders usually bite the same area of body? My husband has no bites. We have no animals in the house, no bedbugs, but do have abundance of spiders. Bites itch, get red, nickle or quarter size and go away in about a week. Bites occur at night at weekly or biweekly intervals. Usually one set of welts each time.

    Hi
I went all over your site but didn’t find any bite pics other than Brown Recluse or Black Widow.

I have a bite I think is from a spider, though I haven’t found the culprit. Woke up with it yesterday morning (about 36 hours ago), with swelling and soreness by my left ear. By tonight the swelling has spread to an area about 3″ across, down to the jaw line and forward on my cheek, and feels about 1/4″ thick… has a texture to the surface like a grapefruit peel or series of blisters on the skin, though no fluid is visible.

    Bite on Nilkki

I cannot see any fang marks or pus. The area is *very* sore and is hot to the touch. I do not have any fever, dizziness or weakness. Had a headache today but I am passing a kidney stone so that is normal to have a headache and I had to unload a 1200 piece truck at work which will also usually exacerbate a headache.

I have included a picture of the bite. I am sorry it isn’t clearer… my digicam lens hasn’t been the same since one of my kids spilt Mountain Dew on it. I have taken an antihistamine and rubbed the area with liquid benadryl to no avail. Any suggestions?

    Nikki
