Insect Bites - ID Help

A large number of visitors that have contributed pictures of insect bites but are not sure exactly what bit them; if you have been bitten, but are not sure by what, then this page is for you.

If you have been bitten and would like help identifying the insect, please take photos and post them here for everyone to view. Without pictures of insect bites it is very hard to determine the insect.

If you have been bitten by a spider, but are not sure what type of spider, then please post your questions and photos on this spider bite page.

Please send photos of insect bites to jim@badspiderbites.com and I will make sure they get posted for everyone to see.

Of all the posts about bites on this site, the following tips seem to be repeated throughout, no matter what type of insect bite it may be.

* Do not pop the bite to get pus out.
* Do not wait to go to the doctor, a few days can do incredible damage!
* Capture the insect that bit you if possible.

I would like some help figuring out what this is.

I realized a couple of days ago (maybe three or four, not sure) looked like a mosquito bite (small and just red, did not stand out) and it grew to this point…a darker red around it, has a little white spot with pus, feels sore whenever it touches something, and it’s standing out.

    thanks,
    Juliana

IN Lawrence, KS. Sunday I know I had no problem, Sunday early evening I worked in the garden. Didn’t feel any bites & didn’t notice any problems in evening or Monday AM , but inside of thigh itched on Monday at work. Monday evening saw large bruise & couldn’t figure out what I did to cause it - but muscles didn’t hurt - closer examine notice bite mark in center - then normal color skin around & then large bruise - a lot like #92.
Bite from What? Should I be concerned? Do I need to see doctor? or just let it run its course?

My wife has two red welts on her left calf (photo attached) that we think are spider bites. They appeared Monday morning but I didn’t know that until tonite. Both are currently the diameter of a pencil, are red but do not appear to contain puss nor are they painful. She has pain in the muscles of that calf causing her to limp and she had headaches and felt sick earlier this week.

Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Oh…My…God.

Please take this rant for what it’s worth, and understand it’s not directed at any one of you, nor is it to all of you as a whole. BUT…

If it hurts, deal with it, if it continues to hurt, consider having it looked at by someone that knows more than you (i.e…a doctor).

If it is pus filled, hot, hard, cold, spongy, has a ring around it or striations (stripes), if is multi-colored, if there is localized (near the site) stiffness or paralysis, if there is systemic (other parts of your body, not JUST where you were bit/stung) symptoms, if you have dizziness or blackouts, difficulty walking, diarreah. if the bite/wound “smells funny”, if there is any discharge, blood or puss included (colored is usually worse than clear), if the bite/wound stays more than a few days…

    GO TO AN EMERGENCY ROOM…IMMEDIATELY.

There are insects, spiders, animals, contagions, viruses, fungi, plants out there that are designed to keep you from harming or eating them. They can cause all manner of pain, irritation, physiological changes in their prey that wander too close. And some of them can/will kill you.

I got on this site to see if I could find a similar picture or two to a series of lil bumps I have on my legs and arms that look like what I’ve heard described as what a fire ant will leave, but I didn’t see any fire ants where I was yesterday…but after reading posts on 5 pages from just the past year…I feel FINE now! LOL

For my regular job I am an Emergency Medical Technician and work with my local county Ambulance service. I am experienced in picking people up that have been bit or stung by a myriad of things..and I’ve seen much of what you all have posted.

But omg…the stubbornness and inaction I read here is frightening. Do you all KNOW what could happen if you do not get yourselves or your loved ones (specially kids, elderly and the infirm) to an ER in the event of a poisonous bite/sting?

Come on…drive or get someone to drive you! Or call my brothers and sisters at your local EMS! They will be happy to take you! No…you do NOT need to go just for a mosquito bite…BUT, if you are allergic or are having some sort of reaction that is abnormal when bit by a mosquito, NOW you need to go.

Our number one concern on an ambulance when called to these scenes is “airway”. If you are bit/stung (especially on the neck and/or face) and you begin to swell, you could shut off your airway by not having enuff room in your airway to draw in or push out air. You can die in minutes. Period.

On your extremities, these are usually less of an emergent worry, but in the long run, “necrosis” or the death of cells can occur. Your spider that bit you may have venom that is specially designed to slowly kill your cells and it may take days, weeks, months but you could lose a finger, toe, arm or leg…the sooner you seek treatment, the sooner this can be slowed or negated.

If you see pus, have pain, swelling or even hardness around the site, this may be normal. This is your body attempting to fight the intruder. If it worries you or continues tho, seek treatment. If it pits in the middle, like a volcano, you may want to seek treatment. If you suffer any new side effects anywhere else BESIDES the site, this is a sign the venom may be reaching other parts of your body and this is not good either.

And especially if you have symptoms of dizziness, blackouts, memory loss or “just don’t feel right”…seek immediate treatment.

You risk your life and lives of others by not seeing someone. I know it may seem silly to worry over a tiny lil bite from a tiny little animal, but how silly is it to lose a limb or die from one?

    Good luck to you all,

    I remain itchy :)

My mom thinks she has gotten bit………
well her ankel had swelled up, so big she couldn’t put shoes on and needed help walinkg, she went to the ER, they said it might be a bite or skin disorder…… Now about 4 - 5 days later her ankel is still slightly swollen, she can put her shoes on….. but she noticed a

I did not find a bite mark….well i poked it w/ a neddle like if it were a splinter, and clear, lite tint of yellow-orange liquid almost water like stuff came out….

she has gone to the ER 4 times since this happend and they just send her home … also shortness of breath…

So i was bit by a bug of some sort on my right ankle. At first it was a very small red area (thus the bite thought) and it itched. The skin was soft (i think yesterday is when it occured) now its all hard and sort of bruised. Im just curious what it could be. So far nothing has really come of it… its about maybe 1″ tall by maybe 2″ long now. so still not really big, but it is really bruised and red and still feels like a hard “core” inside (underneath the skin)

I have a “bite” on the top of my left hand. It is about two inches below my thumb. I have yet to see a picture just like it…It is slightly red around the area almost an exact circle. The middle part is like a small hole or a small crater. It was white till I picked at it, thinking it was a scab…now it is greenish. Puss comes out of it and when the middle green part kinda came off the ENTIRE thing was white puss! (which why would it look green when underneath its white?) Anywho when I look at it with a magnifying glass it almost looks like there are three mini circles within the little circle. Almost like three tiny eggs. Oh, and there is only a SLIGHT pain!

I have this for a few days now and it does not seem to get worse OR better.

    Any ideas?

Ok so i got bit by something yesterday. I have no idea what it was but everytime i itch it it swells up and when i don’t it returns to normal. i was going through boxes that had been in storage for a year, i think its a spider bite. All of my coworkers think it is too. Oh i also woke up this morning not feeling well, i felt clamy like i had a fever. It looks like there are puncture wounds where it itches but i can’t really tell. I know i got bit my mosquitoes but i don’t think this is a mosquito bite. If someone has had this happen and know what it is then can you tell me. Thanx a lot!

Hi. My son has been waking up for several months with big knots in his head. Sometimes there is just one, and sometimes there are several(maybe 2-3). They do not seem to hurt him when I press on them, and in a couple of days, the knot looks like a regular bump. He does scratch at them sometimes, but not to the point where it causes any imflammation. It happens off and on, but it worries me because they only occur on his head. At first I thought they were mosquito bites, but I refuse to believe that a mosquito is only going to bite his head, and only every so often. I thought his brain was swelling, but a nurse friend of mine said I would know if his brain was swelling because it would cause neurological problems. He is still very active and does not seem affected by them except for the occasional itch. If anyone else has had the same thing happen to them or someone they know, please let me know. I don’t have a picture of his bite now because the last one he had has now gone away.

    Alright, so. (Photos sent)
My legs are doing this ‘break out’ thing.
I get these little red bumps all over my legs and around the little red bumps is a little white circle, just around the bump.
They are mainly on my knees, thighs, and shins. Only on the top and sides, never really on the back.
They come and go; I’ll go to bed one night with none, wake up with a bunch of them or I’ll go to bed with a few of them and wake up with a bunch.
They sometimes end up in a group with 2-3 or in rows with 2-3.
Most the time, they are just scaddered on my legs.
They kinda itch too. Not like a must scratch like chicken pox but a “Oh, *Scratches leg* all better.” thing.
They also get these little white heads, that either a. pop and get really watery OR they get little white skin fibers ontop of them and if you pull them or scratch at them, they bleed a little.

Not sure when I was ‘bitten’ but when driving home after a baseball game, I felt a sharpish pain right behind my armpit under my shoulder. It burned a little and itched a little, but not too bad. When I got home to look at it, there was a small raised (like a small mole, but white) bump surrounded by about 3 inch diameter of a rash, with some other small bumps in it. Cortisone cream made the itching go away. Some people on this site talk of popping the blister, is this a good idea???? Should I be concerned with how bad it looks, or not so much since it doesn’t hurt/bother me that badly??? This is two nights after I discovered it.

I got a single bite on my leg a few weeks ago. It was about an inch in diameter, and itched like crazy for over a week. Last week I got 3 more on my arm (pics are being emailed) and one on my thigh. I have to apply cortisone cream every few hours. They start out pink, then eventually turn purple. I can still see the one from a few weeks ago. They vary in size, from the size of an average mosquito bite to about the size of a silver dollar. Slightly hard in the center, but not very raised. I’m not sure if I got them while sleeping in bed or watching tv on the couch - I have noticed them for the first time both in the evening and morning. Not sure if they are bed bug bites or spider bites. My husband has not gotten any. I looked for signs of bed bugs, but did not see any. Our mattress, while pretty new, was in storage for a while (with the couch).

    Thanks for your help!

    Hello;
I noticed a bite mark on my inner right arm. There was a dark bruise shaped like a circle. Inside was white skin, and in the center a line of puncture marks which were red. The whole mark was about the size of a quarter. I did not feel the bite, it never burned and it never itched. I was going on a cruise and did not want to go to the doctor. I was taking antibiotics for dental work and foolishly decided that I would be fine. However, I became extremely exhausted. I had terrible muscle and joint pain. I slept for nearly three days on the cruise. When I got up, I was exrtremely tired, in pain, slightly dizzy and slightly nauseated. At one point, I had extreme difficulty walking. I had excruciating pain in the lower back. It is about a week later and I am better, but still have periods of rapid heart beat, and dizziness. The mark is nearly gone. I looked at the pictures posted and do not see a mark like mine. Instead of a bullseye with a red ring around the outside, mine was bruise colored - bluish black. I don’t know how I got the bite, but I was trying on clothes for the cruise, and maybe the spider was in a sleeve. What could this have been? I am terrified that it is still around.

I was hoping you can help identify this bug that bit me. It seems swell up like a mosquito bite but, obviously this bug is not a mosquito. We need help to figure out what it is so that we can stop this problem. If you do identify this bug, please let us know where they like to live (ex. woodwork, couch cushions). We have a newborn in the house and he already got bit once! Thanks in advance.

PS… the bug is soooo tiny, I hope the pictures come out okay.

    Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me figure out what bit me. I was closing a window and as soon as my arm touched the curtain I felt a stinging burning sensation-much like a bee sting (there was no bee). The burning sensation radiated to my hand and up to my elbow for about an hour. The next morning it just looked like a small red speck.

Day 2 it looked like a large mosquito bite with a bunch of mosquito bite looking bumps around it and it was VERY itchy.

Day 3 it was a swollen area the width of my wrist and about 3 inches long and still itchy and a bit painful. The actual bite mark was raised more than the swollen area and hard with only one puncture mark visible.

Day 4 it was more swollen and painful and still Very itchy. today is day 5 and the swelling is starting to go down and the mosquito bit looking bumps are becoming visible again. There were no mosquitos in our house. At first I thought it was a spider bite but because there is only one puncture mark that is unlikely.

I live in the UP of MI and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is there any chance that someone could identify what could have caused this bite on my leg? I live in the UK and got a similar bite a few years ago in work. On that occasion I saw a spider which I thought at the time was an Australian redback. Two weeks later an Australian redback was indeed caught in work. This time I think the bite occurred at home so I’m just wondering what I may have living with me!

    Hi,

I keep getting these recurrent bug bites at night from some unknown bug.

Desciption: I get them mostly on my chin and neck area. I go to be at night and wake up with them in the morning. When I first started getting them, I thought they were just bad zits that wouldn’t pop. Then one day I squeezed one as hard as I could just to pop it and after rexamining it afterwards, I noticed this ever so slight darkish thing protruding a little. I pulled it out, and behold there was this insect-like needle stuck in my neck that was about a quater of an inch long… not exaggerating

I had gotten a few of these before that and I noticed that they always lasted a few day and were very irritating. After sqeezing and pulling out this needle, it healed up much quicker.

Every once in a while I’d get the same bite, and every time there would be a little needle left behind in every bite, anywhere from 1/8 of an inch to 1/3 of an inch long. It happened infrequently enough for me to forget about it at first, but just a couple mornings ago i woke up with the biggest one yet. Again, I squeezed it and pulled a large one, 1/3 of an inch needle out of my face on my chin. But, after that, i felt like there was still something there, so I squeezed it some more and ended up pulling out THREE MORE (smaller) from the same area. I don’t want to think about what that looks like when they’re feeding on my face. There may have even been more in my chin that I couldn’t get out because it took 3 days for that to heal up.

Today, its almost fully healed, but I woke up with two small bites (both with little needles in them) in my neck and I thought, all right, that’s enough, time to figure it out.

They kinda look like those bed bug bites, except for the needle that’s in EVERY one of my bites. After looking all over the internet, nobody with bed bug bites talks about any kind of needle being broken off in their body. I looked at the anatomy of a bed bug, and apparently, their ‘beak’ is very small and so they apparently don’t feed with a long, protruding needle. Also, not a single account reported with bed bugs said they shed a needle in your body, which happened with EVERY one of my bites. they’re not ichy like mesquito bites and swell up more like large zits but rarely with any puss, Only if they’re large and I let it be for a couple days before trying to pop it.

Please help me out with what’s going on here. I’d like to have a lady=friend over some time, but I won’t because I don’t want to expose her to getting bitten or something. I’m also trying to get a job, and interviewing with little swollen red lumps on my chin and neck isn’t helping me. Thanks

If one bites me again, which it probably will, tonight, I’ll take a couple pics and also a pic of the needle it leaves in my face

    Hi Janelle,

That bug is a red ant and they bite hard and leave a scar most of the time.

    Hi Sara,

That sounds a lot like a spider to me, but perhaps a wasp? Did you see anything fly away or drop down? Can you look at that area and see if there are webs? Glad to hear it’s getting better!!

    Hi Alex,

That is going to give me nightmares for a while! Wow, I can feel the pain just from looking at it! I can’t tell what bit you, but I would love to hear more details on what happened, such as your visit with the doctor, what they said, what they did for you, etc.

Is it getting any better? It looks so bad!!!

    Best regards,

    Jim.

Hi there. For the last couple of nights my husband is awakened by a fire sensation in his arms after being bitten by some flying insect we can’t seem to find. I hear it at night but fall asleep before i can find the thing. The bite is odd in itself. It leaves a nickle sized welt that is raised but very flat. The area that is affected starts to burn up his arm and then stops at the elbow crease. It only last about a half hour to an hour. Both the welt and the fire sensation. On top of this his other arm has the same sensation without us finding a bite?! What in world could this be. I don’t think it is a spider but a flying insect. Please help so he can rest peacefully. This has happened in the past too. Thanks.

Hi, About a month and a half ago, I noticed 6 bite areas that do not itch. I was around a lot of dogs, so I figured ticks. I picked off the hard scabs and they won’t heal. There is no rash. I kept the scabs, under tape, because they are not normal scabs. Sorta like a shell covering. The bite sights are the size of a small tick, less than a pencil eraser. There are 6, one has healed. When I take my hand and smooth over the sites , they are raised. When I remove , there is a slight hole or indentation in my skin. Later a scab forms again, but does not go away.

I am a good healer. If I nick myself with a sharp object, it heals and the scab falls away, no problem. I have been tired, but I have been a bit depressed. My husband died and I am raising our !! year old son on my own. I was disabled in an auto accident…traumatic arthritis where I snapped my ankle / foot almost off. So, I have been attributing my anxiety to those issues. The sites do have the bulls eye look. Hmmmm…What do you think ? I live in CA, East Bay Area, near Tilden Park.

    bite

P.S. The bite sites are random, not in a row, 2 or more inches apart on my right ankle, going up towards my calf.

    Cecil,

Spider bites can cause bruising under the skin and it’s actually pretty normal. As long as the bruising is going down you should be okay. What you want to worry about is tissue necrosis. The area around the bite will start to feel sore and will form a mass, usually within 24-48 hours. If the bruising ends up getting worse or the red dots spread then go see a doctor.

I got a horrible cluster of bites on each thigh, and a couple of bites on my stomach. Attached is the cluster on each thigh. It has been a week, and they have only grown larger and redder. There is blood and puss. They are not at all itchy, they are just incredibly painful. The skin within 3 inches radius of the clusters is very sore, hardened, swollen and reddened. I tried popping one that was on my stomach, and yellow came out, along with dark red blood, but I couldn’t find anything else in there. I am very worried about this. They are large and they are not going away. I have no health insurance so I will not be able to see a Doctor until Wednesday. Can anyone help? Should I be going to an emergency room? I am in constant pain, not too severe, but pretty bad.

I was in Texas for the week and I think I got them there, in the Jesse Jones Nature Reserve, we were hiking, but the skin areas that are affected were not exposed as far as I know. Can anyone tell me what they are, what they may be, and how to get rid of them? Each cluster has 4-6 bites in a golf ball sized area, and they are like mini volcanoes.

On Saturday morning i woke up with those bites, i thought it was a mosquito but they were too many bites around the same place. It feels a little bit warm and it itches. Do you think its a spider bite? I saw a picture on page 14 # 19 and they look similar to what i have.

OK, got an interesting one here. I’m in Thailand with my Wife and kids for a bit,. and we went out (have been here for 3 mos. so far, no concerns as such) and when I returned home I felt an itchy-sensitive area on my left-side, lower back area… I lifted my shirt and asked my wife to look at it. It was swollen, in a sort of flat, plateau looking area about 3″ in diameter.. she said it looked like something bit me.. no worries, on with the day.

But. The area had gotten more sensitive and had become somewhat red and inflamed. Like an idiot (I hadn’t read the ‘basic’ directions for these things) I asked my wife to clean it up, meaning squeeze the area, clean, dry, etc.. She noticed about 4 or 5 flat bumps that surrounded a lower area that was slightly more white then the outer area.. she said she thought she saw ‘dots’ or bite marks in the lower area..

Before, and now after, she cleaned it, I can feel what feels like a tense muscle (like when you sit on the floor with your legs in front and touch your toes,. the tension in your muscles running on each side of your spine) on my left side.. starting at the bite and going up to my shoulder blade. I have not seen a Doctor yet, and just jumped online to see if I could learn anything about this.. I will be sending a pic as well, which I understand Jim will attach herein.

I’m not in any pain, it’s just mildly irritated and feels kinda ‘hot and tender’ if touched.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
P.S. I think it may be a spider but, a total assumption on my part just from previous experience, but we did not see what bit me.
    Thank you!
    Jesse

My husband and I are suddenly getting itchy, red bites on us with whiteheads that may appear after a day or so. Several of the people above this post sound like they have the exact same thing, it isn’t a mosquito bite but it looks like it and feels like it. The bites appear to be on exposed areas but away from hair (I.E. my husband has them on his chest because he doesn’t wear a shirt at night, but I do so I don’t have bites on my torso, however I do get them more on my exposed legs, even though we’re under blankets).

We’ve bug-bombed the apartment, and my husband bug-bombed our bedroom, and sprayed down the bed frame. Our mattress should be okay, because we haven’t felt this before we went on a trip. It was right after we came back that we suddenly got this. We’re wondering if we got the bites from the bed at the resort cabin we stayed. The problem is, we don’t see signs of bed bugs, not brown or reddish stains from feces, or husks of shedding skins, or any bugs.

If anyone else has the same bites and symptoms of itchiness + whiteheads & clear pus, please respond and tell me what it is so that we can get rid of it!!

6 months ago I was sound asleep and woke up from a sharp severe pain on the top of my left foot. there was a red mark a bite of some sort. it burned like everything and itched like crazy it hurt so much it woke me up from a deep sound sleep. at 3am I went back to sleep at 5am and woke up with a rash all over my body the rash looked like a rash that someone would get if they had measles but I have already had measles.

I went to the emergency room and they gave me short term prednisone and the rash went away and then it came back and they repeated the prednisone. now I get ulcers on the bottom of my foot. and what precipitates the ulcers are severe I mean severe itching and the spot on the top of my foot where the red bite mark was initially gets really red and inflamed and I have such severe itching i dont know what to do and then I will seek out and find the ulcers and as soon as I open them the severe itching gets worse and then it goes away after about 5 minutes as soon as I open the ulcer up and drain the fluid out of it. if I can find the ulcer soon enough the fluid is just clear but sometimes I cant find them soon enough and my foot will itch for 24 48 hours and then many small ulcers will appear and they have grey or green or yellow fluid in them and when they reach that stage when I open them I am left with a big hole like a blister leaves.

and then it starts all over in a new place on my foot. I have tried many things I have soaked my foot in bleach water I have used clove oil on it I have used cortizone cram caladryl spray, cinnamon oil, panaway oil tea tree oil athletes foot sprays and creams out the wazoo and nothing helps get rid of this.

and sometimes when it is itching I feel like something is crawling around under my skin on the bottom of my foot! it happens all along my toes and bottom of my foot right below my toes. i have not had the rash since it first happened 6 months ago. does nay one know what i might do next to finally get relief from whatever bit me? I did have a fever initially with the rash but it was low grade 100.

    sincerely

I’ve been getting bit prety much everyday for almost 2 months. My bites are similar to #295. I am an african american female but the symtoms are the same. A lot of swelling, itching, and blisters. The current one has 3 blisters. I’ve been to the doctor, the ER, and urgent care and they haven’t said if it was a bite or what. They only treated the itch and swelling. I have had an exteriminator come out and there are plenty of spiders around the house. Does anyone know if it’s spider bites? They are pretty much on my arms only.
    Thanks,
    Brenda

    Hi!
I can’t believe you made this site! How convenient!

I don’t think this is the best photo in the world…but here it is:
    Description.

Noticed it at work the other day…I work in a very clean day spa, so I am guessing it is nothing in there…
I have a vague memory of feeling something crawling on my hand in my sleep the night before. And now it itches like crazy…horrible, like the itch is inside my hand and is spreading. Ice seems to help temporarily, and benadryl helped last night, but puts me to sleep…I woke up to the same awful itch. the bite itself is harder than a mosquito bite, and hurts when you press on it.
What the hell bites you on the palm of your hand? My boyfriend thought maybe centipede, millipede? We live in San Francisco, and haven’t moticed any bugs in our place, save on small centipede when we first moved in…

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

Sorry, I can’t post a photo right now, my camera’s broken :( I’ll try get a picture of it soon, but i’ll try and describe it the best I can right now.

It started out as a small patch on my upper leg, about a cm in diameter which was a bit flaky, but I didn’t really notice it. Then it started to go a bit red, and it almost looked like the first layer of skin had been peeled away. Small pimples also appeared around it’s edges. Now it seems to be getting more itchy, is quite pink, with the peeled skin look and the occasional tiny pimple and it’s slightly raised. I’m not having any other symptoms yet, but it is slightly sore to the touch. I don’t live in a particularly spider or bug infested place, but there are a few around.

Also, there’s no actual puncure marks I can see, and if it hadn’t appeared slowly, without any real pain, I would think i’d simply scraped my leg on something and it had gotten slightly infected.

Hello! I got this bite on my leg about 4 days ago, it was VERY itchy but cortizone helped it. A few days later my vein seems like its reacting to it….does this look like anything you have ever seen? It no longer itches, I don’t have insurance and I am very curious if I should worry!

    Hello,

I have been bitten again! I don’t know what is going on with me and spiders. Again, I did not see what I am assuming is a spider bite. I attached what the bite looks like below.

Bite on Gretchen's arm 10 days old

The first day, I thought it was a plain house spider and didn’t think anything. I did not have the shocking pain like I did the other time I was bitten. It is on the ulnar part of my forearm. A few days later the bite sight swelled. A couple days after that there was a red ring 4×2inches, around it, so I took homeopathic ledum, put some urine on it.

The next day the the redness was resolving, but it began to have a tight sensation in my underarm lower lymph and the sight was having some numb/electrical sensations. I put Sports Gel which is a combo homeopathic remedy of bellis, rhus, symph, and hyp. This relieved all the red symptoms within a few hours.

The next day there were 3 whiteheads surrounded by dark purple. That is when I called a colleague for reinforcements. She told me to use a compress of ammonia. Within hours the eruptions were considerably more raised and the purple discoloration became red and a sort of scab appeared over each spot.

Today, my colleague came to my office and she recommended I try using clay. I had some Moorish clay at home and coated my entire forearm with it. It became very hot them cool then went back to normal, however the spots are flatter, but have gone back so a slightly purplish color.

The most intriguing symptom is that I feel as if I have a gaping wound of 6×3 inches - like it is raw and open and that I have to make sure I don’t ooze on the furniture, but then I look at it and it is just the 3 spots. I also have some numb sensations on the back of my hand and upper arm.

That’s where I’m at. Any advice? It has been about 10 days I think.

    Thanks for any thoughts,

    Gretchen

I woke up Friday morning with the little bite you can see on my cheek. This is what I looked like by Saturday morning. I am very curious as to what is going on.

    bite on Jack Straws face

Hard to tell Jack - Watch for lines move toward the heart (down (even up))!

It scares me that it’s so close to your eye - I wouldn’t take any chances on this!

Did you see any spiders, where part of the country do you live in? What type of spiders are in your area?

Wish I could tell you more!

    Best regards,

    Jim.

I was in Buffalo, NY on a trip and did not see any spider. It started out small and grew. I guess I should really go to the Doctor. No use taking any chances.

Not with your eye - You may end up paying money for something that could go away itself, but if it’s bad, you’ll be glad you did!

I hear so many stories where someone tried to save money by not going in and wished they had or had gone in sooner…

If it was me, I would go in.

Let me know what they say!

    Regards,

    Jim.

Good news (sort of) I sent a photo of my face to my M.D. He diagnosed me as having cellulitis, which is serious but easily corrected by an antibiotic. He said that since the area is throwing off heat, it is an active infection, even though there is no break in the skin.

He called in an antibiotic here in Malibu and I am on my way to get it (I am on a business trip). In the long run, he told me it was a mistake on my part not to be treated this weekend, so I learned something. He ventured that tomorrow morning I would start running a low fever (if I did not have one already) and it would be downhill from there untreated. The antibiotic he is prescribing is super-strong and should have the infection at bay within 24 hours. So I avoid the emergency room and saved 100 bucks.

Also, the doctor said it was from a spider bite most likely, but that the infection (usually caused by staph) was in the layers of skin, just below the outside layer.

    Thanks,

    Jack

This is a photo of my husband’s bite on his leg. He is a water driller, and was at the job site when this happened. He said he never felt anything bite him. The first day it looked like a mosquito bite, but the next day it looked like this. We live in California. Could you please help us on what might have bitten my husband, Thank you.

For starters 20 and im a big guy, 6′4 and over 300 pounds. I eat very healthy and have a very strong immune system (I can count the number of time ive been sick on two hands).

Starting 4 days ago i noticed a small redish swollen spot just above where my pubic hair is, i know for a fact that this is not a std. On this day i felt sick, i thought i was going to throw up many times. Within the next 2 days the spot kept getting bigger and the area became very tender, i could not sleep on my stomach or wear anything but athletic shorts.

On the 4th day i became very ill, i had a fever and felt like i had the flu but had no sore throat. Every muscle in my body was sore, i had a fever, and was very fatigued. The redish spot became swollen and became very tough and was the size of a nickle, the middle of the bite is a dark purple. Barely touching the bite was very painful. There was also alot of pain coming from my pelvic area. I became very concerned on the 4th day and was considering seeing a doctor the next morning.

On the 5th day i woke up feeling fine and my appetite had been restored. The bite area became very soft and i was finally able to “pop” it with no pain. A pearl like puss and lots of blood came out. The are continued to bleed for 5 minutes but stopped. I no longer felt very ill but still didnt feel 100%.

Thank you for making yourself available this way. I am sitting here wondering if I should go to the hospital or not? I didn’t notice a bite; I just felt some pain in the crook of my arm and then the muscle in my upper arm became hard. Right now I have pain in the upper arm, too, and I also have a funny taste in my mouth. I don’t know if my heart is beating fast, because I’m scared or because I’ve been bitten by something. The black rings around the red marks are pen that I used, after I cleaned the spots. I read someplace to do that to judge if the size changes. Please let me know what you think and thank you very, very much for your input.
