on the way to doc this morn my son is 9 has had that exact pic on elbow for a week he has a outdoor rabbit and cleans cage weekly is it a outdoor spider do you know the name of one to leave this kind of bite? thanks it looks like image #21

I might have been bitten by a spider and the sore in the first week or so looked like the picture you have on page one of spider bites on your website on the very bottom right. I have been very curious if my sore- which by the way I still have two months later and looks like a half inch diameter raised red bump without the pus filled white head in the middle-if it is a spider bite what spider could it be from? Do you know what kind of spider caused that sore in the picture you have? I live in Hawaii, and we do have black widows and brown recluse here. I don’t know what other pisonous species might be here.

I have a bite that looks like the 5th row down 1st pictue. It has been on the inside of my wrist for about a week. Should I go to the emerency room since my doctor will not be in for 3 more days. The only strange simptom I have is that my hand feels like its sleeping. sorry I do not know what bit me. Only that I was kind enough to help clean out a mans house that had been placed in a nursing home. thanks

I think I might have been bitten by a spider and the sores look like image 17 and 20. Do you know what kind of spider caused that sore in the picture you have? I live in FL. i think its in my car but I haven’t seen it. Do you know if is’s going to get any worse?

These are all really gross spider bites. When i got sent to iraq i was on a mission and out of no where i heard some type of screaming and i got bit by this huge spider and it ended up being a camel spider and i lost half of my leg!!!!! Ill send some photos later on !!!!!!!!

I have some kind of bite on my leg that looks like the one on page 6, second row in the middle. its not the same shape, my bite looks like the letter “z” but its the same redness, and its swolen, raised about half an inch. i dont recall being bit by anything, it just kind of appeared. please let me know what kind of spider made this bite. it itches like mad, no other real symptoms at this time. thanks.

I have a bite that looks like page 7, 7th row, 2nd column. It is the size of a 50 cent piece. It did start to have a little pus come out but quickly disappeared. It raised up appx .5 inch and had a very hard black center. The surrounding area is very red and painful. No other real symptoms though. Can you tell me what kind of spider bite is this and what should I do to treat it?

My daughter and I were bit by a spider. The bites looks like the image #17 with a hard knot under the skin. By the time I got through killing the spider I could not tell what kind of spider it was. If you know I would appreciate letting me know what kind of spider it was.

Hummm…I went strawberry picking Tuesday, April 1 and on Wed April 2, I noticed a very small bump on my right pointer finger…pin prick size, that was very sore to the touch. Upon touching it, it started itching and I started scratching. Thursday, April 3, I awoke to a swollen aching finger (which I could not bend) and the pin prick size now the size of an eraser head with a pus pocket on top and around it is what looks like a ‘bloody blister’. Well, I popped the pus pocket in the middle and the usual ‘junk’ came out however the center is now ‘hard’ and sore to the touch. Looks like picture #21. what kind of spider bite, if any, is that? I’m going to the doctor tomorrow…

Hi, my girlfriend and i were at an abandoned building Thursday, April 10′th [3days ago], and she happened to sit down next to some spider and got bit. She says her bite is horribly painful and inhibits her from walking great distances. Her bite looks exactly like the bottom picture in the middle row on the second page. I’m really worried, and I don’t know what to do. She complains of an increasing number of headaches, the chills, extreme dizziness, drowsiness, and nausea. Recently, she told me she began to have slight abdominal pains. She also insists on pushing doctor visits to later dates. I’ve felt the area around the bite, and it’s tight and tough; the bite itself is a purple circular, raised bump surrounded by red, irritated skin.

I’d appreciate any help anyone could give me [Spider name, treatment, etc.]

Hello there everyone….

I have just recently experienced the worse spider bite of my life. It is on my right thigh it hurts, burns, and is beat red with these two little holes showing where the point of entry is. On page 17 of the picture with it being picture 7 out of all the pictures that are on here that is the one that looks the closes to what i have on my leg.

Would anyone that comes on here have any clue to what kind of spider bite that would be?

The one on me looks as follows-
There is a black spot followed by a purple circle the a really red circle that is pretty big. Now I did go to the doctor today and they gave me an antibotic and pain pills (no surprise there) but at this point this is the very worst bite i have ever had in my life.

I am visiting my son in Texas and have gotten a bite on my foot that looks like these pictures. Luckily, it is small and not too sore, although it is very itchy. What is the treatment and what can I expect so far as how long it will be a bother? I have put cortisone 10 on it which helps the itching. Thank you.

this is for question # 2 a black widow spider is one of the deadliest spiders there are, so i doubt that it was a black widow.

Hi my 5 yr old daughter has just been bitten by what i think is a black house spider. The bite is on the end of her finger and happened while in bed. Her whole finger is swollen and the end is very red with what looks like a blister with pus under the skin, there are two of these blister looking things on the end of her finger.

She complained of pain of her finger but has been asleep for two hours now occasional stirring no sweating or raise in temperature as yet, please help

I got bitten by a spider while working /gardening in my yard a couple of weeks ago. It is near my tail bone, lower back area. The bite now looks exactly like Debbie’s bite on page 2, photo # 4, a flat crater with a very pronounced /raised ring around the bite.

The bite constantly oozes clear liquid and is about three quarters of an inch wide. It has never itched very much, and is not too painful, but it is a raw sore. Does anyone know what type of spider causes this bite?

I live on the coast in South Carolina. From other pictures, it looks like a hobo spider bite, but they are not found where I live.

I was bitten by a spider about 5 years ago on my hand, but it was a totally different kind of bite — extremely painful with my hand swelling to boxing glove size. Thanks for any help.

My 3 year old daughter was bitten by something the day before yesterday on the top of her foot near her toes. Her entire foot from toes to ankle was swollen immediately. She was itching the bite area and said “the bones inside hurt” but has since stopped itching and says it no longer hurts. The area has turned splotchy red and is about the size of a 50 cents piece and looks very similar to picture #17. She knows she was bit by something black but cannot tell me what it was. Can you please tell me what kind of spider bite is in picture #17.

i have a spider bite, and i didn’t realize it was bite until i saw a little red dot where i was bit. the area surrounding it is purple, it doesn’t itch but is sensitive to the touch almost like a bruise. its swollen. i was bit I’m sure Saturday.

I am allergic to any bug bite, esp spiders, not very severe, but sometimes they can swell up to several inches, plus rash. today is Monday night and i feel weak in the joints. if this sounds like a bite rather than anything else, i would like to know what bug and how serious it could be.(my internet is too slow to choose a similar pic though =(

Hello,

I think I got bit by a spider a couple of days ago. The bite is on the top of my left thigh. It is extremely painful. It hurts the most right when I stand up from waking up and sitting for a long period of time, it also occasionally stings.

The pictures above may help but, the best I can explain by is page 2 row 4 third pic. Last night my husband squeezed a bunch of gunk out of it. It was the worst pain I have felt in a while.

I am curious as to if that would help or make it worse. I’m also wondering if its even a spider bite. I also am interested in how long I should continue trying home remedies before I go to the Doctor. Please give me some insight!

My son was bitten by something on the eye. There are three or four little bites that have now scabbed over. This happened 05/11/2008 and today (05/12/2008) I see the scabs. His upper eye lid has swollen almost shut, and the bottom of his eye is very swollen. The eye isn’t very red, maybe a light pink. Could this have been a spider bite?

I got bit I think about 3 days ago, it at first looked like a pimple then turned into a red raised bump on my neck with a purplish dot in the center and a purplish line on the inside of the rash.

It feels tender and sore to the touch and just sore when I move my neck a certain way is this a spider bite and what kind do you think?

I got whatever this is on Mother’s day, this year. By that evening, it started to itch. The next day, it was a little round bubble. It looked like a blister. I broke it and it was pus. The area starting getting hard, and red, with the skin being more purple at the center. It hurts like the dickens and it throbs at night,. I don’t know if this is something serious or not, Below you’ll find two pictures that show how swollen my hands are!

Update: May 20th, 08:

I went to the doctor on Monday, the 19th of May. He immediately told me I would need to be admitted to the hospital.. I have a staff infection in the wound and the blood tests haven’t come back yet to see if it has gone any farther. I am on really strong antibiotics and they plan on keeping me about four days total.

Opening up the wound was very painful. They gave me lytecane (sp) but that only dulled the initial cut. When he began to dig in the wound, I thought I would pass out from pain. I am extremely swollen with red streaks going up my arm to my underarm. My nodes under the arm are enlarged .

I have small veins and today the IV backed up and they have to put in a new one. They plan on sending me home with an IV and I will either have to go back twice a day or have a visiting nurse come to the house. Evidently, this antibiotic is very strong.

I just hope the staff hasn’t gone into my blood stream.

I had bites that looked exactly like “Nik’s” on page 12 with the two “fang” marks. I had a pair of them right above my eyebrow. I woke up one morning with what felt like a couple of pimples starting. It got more and more swollen until I could see definite holes! The doctor thought it was MRSA, but the results were negative. It took 3-4 weeks to heal, and I now have huge scars. I am dying to know how Nik’s situation turned out, did you scar? What bit you?

I woke up with a mark that was the size of a nickel. The outline was red and the inside was a ligth pink and seemed transparent. A first I thought it was ring worm but about 2 weeks later the circle disappeared and now I have several bumps that resemble pimples. The bumps are hard and don’t seem to have any liquid inside. I recently moved to a new house that has a lot of spiders. I wonder if these are symptoms of a spider bite. Can you help?

I had similar bites, one on back of my calf, another on the side of my calf, right above the ankle. The first, above the ankle on the outer right side was several years back, but after it heals, it never completely goes away, as is raised/bumpy, pimply. Same thing with one on the back of my calf which happened just a couple years ago. Both are on my right leg. Anthing that will keep the sore healed & flat to the skin, rather than raised with crust.

As female, when shave, due to bumpiness, it can re-open, and then getting to re-scab over takes time, and then, if look like it will finally flatten, then, re-iritates. Any ideas? Doctor advised when he looked at in physical a year ago nothing to worry about, if removed them himself they would just come back — please advise of any tips to get rid of the sores/reoccuring pimples. Thanks.

#50 the description of a “ring” around a bite makes me think of lyme disease from a tick bite. I would go to the doctor and have the test for lyme disease done. Lyme disease can be stopped early with antibiotics, but if it progresses, can lead to weakness and a life-long neurological type of illness.

I am here because I see these big spiders, the size of a quarter at my house that are brown with a white center or spot on them. I recently had 2 spider bites. 1 was on my foot and smaller than the other. That one healed faster, but the one on my calf turned purple and grew to the size of a nickel. They both are sort of healed where it looks much better, but they are still very itchy which is odd because the bites happened 2 weeks ago and look like scabs or healed new skin. The itchiness won’t go away and some of the spiders are so big that I am afraid to kill them.

What type of spiders do these sound like? Are they a threat to me? My bites don’t look dangerous like some of the pictures I see on this website. I am at the point where I don’t know what to do about all of the spiders that are inside my house (it seems infested). I had a bite 4 weeks ago that didn’t heal at all for 4 weeks until I scratch it. It remained itchy and a white dot was on it. It went away after the white dot (maybe venom) was scratched off. What type of spider does these bites?

I have a bite that looks exactly like the one on the second page of pictures, 6th row down, the one in the center (Red around the edges, with one spot in the middle that kind of looks scabbed over.) Does anyone know what it is from? What kind of spider? What should I do about it, or how long does it take for it to go away?

These are the best pictures I have ever seen of different bites. I am a retired RN and the worst spider bites that I took care of was the Brown Recluse. It is more poisonous than a black widow.

I woke up one morning with my side sore and itchy. I went to the bathroom to look in the mirror to see what was making it hurt and itch. There on my high left rib cage, about three inches from my arm pit was a dark red raised bump. I thought it might be a blood blister or one of those pimples that get big and red and are sore but dont get a white head so I tried to pop it and just a bunch of blood came out.

Later that night I tried to pop it again and again only blood came out of it. That night I went to bed not thinking much of it except it really hurt, like a really bad bee sting or something. I woke up that night in a lot of pain where the “bite” was located. I went to the bathroom to see what it looked like, and I found it had a white middle, I thought it might be a white head or just pus, so I sqeezed it a little, whch hurt like heck and then a hard white thing poped out of the middle of it. I looked really close and it looked like a dead spider egg.

The night before I had put antibiot ointment on it and it must have killed what was under my skin. Ive seen pictures of Brown Lucluses and my bite looks a lot like picture #21 with the nickle next to it. Its been three weeks and I still have a red spot on my side, it doesnt hurt but the spot wont go away.

Also Ive found three spiders in my room that Ive killed, one that was crawling on my 5 month old son, I had to m, kill the spider while it was crawling on his face before it bit him, he cried because I woke him up, I feel so bad but I would have felt worse if it would have bit him. If anyone know’s what type of spider this might be please e-mail me. Thanks

I got bit by a spider at the pool which looked like the pictures 17 and 20. At first I just thought it was a really big ant because I was only familiar with spiders biting with two punctures, not one. I waited a few days expecting a bubble of poison to form so I could release it, but it never came. Instead it spread from under my armpit, into my back and into my chest. By the fifth day, I was in excruciating pain and the area of infection was so sore and swollen that I could barely move, stand, or walk. I had to go to the hospital, and they numbed the area and sliced it open and pushed all the blood and pus out. Then my doctor gave me really strong antibiotics and painkillers. For 4 days I had to go back and get the pus removed by my doctor. If you get an infection like that, get antibiotics right away. That was the most awful and painful experience.

it is now 07-21-2008 i think i was bitten on the 18th or 19th i went urgent care yesterday no answers he gave me some meds well today it is worse i am going to the ER it is a perfect square with a yellowish hole in tne cener and a bunch of purple dots and my calf is very sore all the way into the muscle does anyone know what it may have been that has bitten me? I live way up in northern mi. south of mackinaw very rare for a brown recluse right?

I need help my 4 year old boy was bit by something. 2 weeks ago he woke up and had a 103 temp I gave him a bath and meds and he was okay. The next day his temp was back and I called the doctor they told me what I could do. Then he starting throwing up the medicine. SO I went to the doctor’s they said it was a virus goign around. He also complained that his head hurt him, but I thought it was just a headache. Until that night he was in the tub and he point to a spot on his head that hurt. You could even move his hair to look at it,it was really sore. So I took him back to the doctor the nextday and there was some yellow discharge from the big red solid spot on his head. The doctor looked at it and said it was lyme, and gave him meds.

He goes for blood work in 2 weeks. I really think it’s a spider bite. Now 2 weeks later it has a scab that fell off yesterday and he has a bald spot where the bite was. It’s dry and has some little red spot around the area ans it’s been itching him like crazy. I read number #190 and it’s sound just like what he has but there is no responds on it. I think something bit me.

The doctor said something punctured my arm and I didn’t know it (branch, nail sticking out of garage well etc…) But then it turned into this. It hurts pretty badly and the blood vessels are dying progressively down my arm and through my bicep. He claimed it wasn’t a hobo spider bite. Well I live on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State, which is the Hobo’s stomping grounds. I am 99% sure it was one since I was digging around in an old shed/garage when it happened.

Oh well. The gaping hole I am getting will come in handy. I can put tic-tacs and spare change in it sort of like an extra pocket. *shrug*

I was camping at rough river in kentucky and had been drinking,the next morning I went to the showers and I FELT A HUGE knot in the middle of my back.I had gone to work for 2 days before starting to feel dizzy.I went to the emergency room.Come to find out a baby brown recluse got me or I layed on it. They gave me 3 different types of medicine,said that i was lucky it was not an adult.It got to be the size of a softball on the middle of my back. Since than I have been bit in the same spot 2 times,not as bad, but now I know what to do.The bite will hurt and be tender,then it starts to itch like crazy. I use benadryl itch cream extra strength. It is not unusual for them to go to the same area because they sense you have been bit there before.

I have a bite on my thigh that looks like #17 in this photo. It’s been about 3 1/2 weeks now since I’ve had it I’ve watched grow from a pea size and now the size of a dime. It’s brown in the middle and red raised skin around it. Once in a while it would itch a little. It does not hurt . But always red. It won’t go away. I have an appointment on the 20th to see what it is. It’s scary because the redness keeps growing. But no pain. If anyone has this please let me know. I live in Texas a very warm place and lots of bugs…….thank you!

Just wanted to comment on your site it was very informative. Yesterday my boyfriend was biten or at least we beliee he was biten by some type of insect while working in his garden. However he didn’t see what bit him. He just felt a severe discomfort in his right elbow then noticed it was itching. Later in the evening his elbow was very red, extremely swollen, and very spongy feeling along with hot to touch, plus hurt like hell however he straighten his arm. We did go to our local emergency room however were discharged be told 2 conflicting diagnosis’s one it was some sort of spider bite the other Bursitis??????

He was given a antibotic to take for 10 days 3 times a day, however nothing for the pain he’s in.This morning his elbow is even more swollen then it was yesterday and the red area has increased in size. We’re extremely concerned that it may be a Brown recluse bite because he did find one in his gazebo the night before. But we don’t see any ulcerated areas on his arm however he does have what appears to be 2 small punctures wounds which he thought were just mosquito bites. I’ve attached several photos for you to add to your site although we’re not certain if its even a spider bite???

Please Help me identify a spider that has bitten my on the upper inside of leg just abouve the knee, I was riding my horse in the Great Smoky Mts. National Park just outside of Bryson City, NC this pass Saturday. I was bitten by a small -fat- hairy white and black spider. Now my leg has a small hole the is purplish around it and has a big bright red rash-looking place that is hot to the touch. The small hole and rash area is getting larger as my leg is swelling at times. Please Help As Soon As Possible. ( Hate going to Doctors) I have been treating it with home remedies.

I live in Las Vegas and was out watering a week or so ago. The hose brushed underneath my lower belly a few times. Or so I thought it was the hose. I believe I was bitten three times by a brown recluse based on the descriptions above. The night of the bite it was terribly sore and I thought perhaps it was a pimple. It hurt so bad that night I could hardly sleep. Then it hurt when I turned my body in different directions, but not excruciating pain. Its as described above, very dark purple with a dark purple center that had a white head (in this case several heads) and was pink in the outlying areas. After about a week it started to burst and release pus. I have found Benadryl cream (which I bought when I was stung by a bee this summer) to provide great relief and has speeded the healing. But after reading the above, I’m afraid these bites never go away. I never had all the other symptoms like I was poisoned, but it sure is NOT attractive, and in an area where I would feel very uncomfortable going to the doctor to have lanced. Do these bites ever go away? Should I be concerned or just wait for it to heal?

hi..Um, I hate waiting at the hospital..so, Im gonna try this. I got bit on my forearm, close to the elbow. When It happened, I didnt see the bug, or spider, I was on the computer…But it itched like a mosquito bite, and looked like one…cause I was itching it. After that i forgot about it till, an hr after….I saw that the area was swollen significantly….No red, no bite marks, no anything. Its been like five hrs… and its about the same, but its a little tender..and getting hard. Anyone have any clue?…I dont want it to be something, that might go away in the morning…thanks ( U can see the barely raised area, close to the elbow)

My 13 year old daughter came home from a swimming party in the central area of New England where we live. She had a painful round flat bite approximate 7 inches in diameter on her upper leg. It was itchy and painful, hot to the touch and very hard. There was small bruising in the center where the bite occurred. I don’t know if it is a spider bite or not, but I called the doctor who indicated if she appeared ill ie; fever; vomiting; dizziness etc she would have to be seen immediately, but since she did not exhibit the following symptoms he suggested treating her with benadryl, ibuprofen, and hydrocortisone cream for 12 hours and if the symptoms did not improve overnight she should be seen in the morning. It worked and now the bite area is 1/2 the size. We are still continuing the above course of action until the bite is completely healed. I still don’t know what type of spider it was, but the above recommendations did work. Just wanted to submit it as an fyi to those of you who may not be in close proximity to a doctor when the bite occurs.

I have a friend who was bitten and at first it looked like nothing more than a mosiquito bite, then turned in to a red rash, which finally seemed to go away, however, she woke up the next day to a new bruise in the same spot that’s centered around the spot and turning kind of yellow. She isn’t sure what bit her. do you have any idea.

Just so that you know! My Father was bit by a brown recluse spider about 4 1/2 years ago. All he has left to show is a slight discoloration on his right calf!! He used a poltice of Meat tenderizer (yes, like the kind in the kitchen!!) and changed it often and the poltice pulled the venom out of the bite & it healed. He had even went to the Doctor for it & the Meds they gave didn’t seem to be phasing it! But the meat tenderizer did!! After about a week of daily changes with the mixture it was gone!
Also, their is an Herb called Virgina Snake Root, it’s in liquid form with a dropper, if you apply it directly to any bite it (plus the Meat Tenderize for spider bites) does the trick!!

i have gotten bite tonight by something! i have about 6 large skin colored welps about the size of a nickle-quarter. They are feverish and red around the bump. THey are raised up pretty high, and itchy. Is this something to worry about. my daughter has also been complaining of a bite on her groin area it started off as a bump and is noe purplish with what looks like a small head, and very sore to the touch. we do have small black spiders (very similiar to a black widow, but no hour glass design on it) throughout our whole house. Is this serious, should I see a dr.??

I have a spider bite from a large Black spider , on my neck, and terrible swelling on the other side of my neck with flu like symptoms for 3 weeks. I finally went to the Drs today and they put me on Antibiotics and said if I get a rash or pimple like sores to call immediately. the whole side of my neck hurts to touch, and under my chin, headaches, and I got bit on the opposite side of my neck….????

I saw what bit me as it fell in the sink, as I was brushing my teeth. a large black spider fell in the sink.. Its bite is 2 spaced dots, 0 0 on my neck…It started itching and got red and swoolen, But the opposite side of my neck is where it has swollen,from my ear to my collarbone, and so sore to touch , my voice is funny and swallowing is very sore, even turning my neck hurts.. and I have been suffering 3 weeks now. so this is what i woke with about a week ago. the bruise was darker and has gotten lighter since then, except for a few days ago when i was wrestling with my kids (which is what i thought it was at first until i saw someone with the same thing who actually HAD been bitten by a spider), it had gotten more redder than black and blue, especiallly around the edges but faded within a day as far as that went. it’s not a very good picture but to get the just of it, it’s a typical bruise around the edge but clear in the middle and there’s a bump underneath the clear spot. it doesn’t hurt when i touch it very much and as far as other symptoms, the only thing i’ve noticed is i’m having more and more head rushes EVERY time i get up and even when i sit sometimes but that could be because of my schedule change or dehydration, which is what i’m thinking of… but thought i would put it out there, anyways.

if you have trouble locating the bruised area, its above my wrist.

My daughter got bit by something it started out like a mesq. bite with a white head and than 8 hours later the reddness around it was the size of a quater and had two lines coming off each side of it and two thing lines coming off the bottom of it. The reddness about the size of a tangerine now, but the bite mark is just red with no white pus sometimes it will get pus. but its hot and swelling slightly and hurt really bad, she is on antibotic. Not a clue what may have bit her and this is just day 2. Any help would be appreciated.

The bite(s) on my leg is located on the front left part of my leg down by the ankle area and it looks exactly like the photo of Jo’s bite that caused a large blister filled with clear yellowish tint liquid to form: image 1 of 21 at http://www.badspiderbites.com/nggallery/page-69/page-9.

I don’t know what bit me, but I had noticed an itchy area on my leg yesterday morning, Sunday, 8/31/08 when I woke so I immediately put Benadryl gel on it since I know that it’s not good to scratch bites since it’ll spread the poison, and can it can cause an infection.

I mentioned that I had bite(s) which indicates more than one bite though I’m not sure since I noticed a bunch of tiny blisters later in the day which made me think that I had gotten bitten by something more than once. I really didn’t look very close at my leg in the morning when I first put the Benedryl gel on, but I didn’t notice the tiny blisters at that time. I don’t see small things very well and I need to use reading glasses. I didn’t have my glasses on when I first put on the Benedry get on.

The itchy spot continued to get itchier so I continued to put the Benedryl get on the affected site which helped. However, I woke up about 3:00 am and felt the need to check the affected area since it felt itchy and had a slight burning sensation. When I turned on the light, I had discovered the large blister and became concerned about it.

Can you help! I got this bite sometime Thurs. Pm or Fri. I noticed a burning sensation and then I saw that something bit me, but I really didn’t think anything of it. After 3-4 days it really started to flare up at times peaking about a week later so that I couldn’t sleep at times. the area about the size of an orange was so sensitive I could not touch it and the pain was so bad it felt like I was being stabbed by a needle or stung by a bee continuously. Ten tiny blisters welled up in a horse shoe type shape with little puncture marks in the middle that you could see under a magnifying glass. There was slight swelling around it , but not much, no blue or purple coloring, nothing bad looking. You would think I was the biggest baby in the world looking at it, but it was awful! The pain was 8/10 somtimes and it shot around to the side of my back. Well, after ten days I got flu aches and the the headaches for three days with diarreha! Finally after two weeks I woke up one morning and couldn’t beleieve I finally felt better. I would have gone to the hospital, but was out of town. When I went to the doctor, he had no idea what it was. Three nurses looked too and nobody could figure it out. Benadryl was the only thing that made it feel better. Somebody who saw it said it looked like a small snake bite, but that is just too bizzare. I will send a photo. to the email. It was about 6-8 inches to the left of my navel.

I got bite on the inside lower thigh on sunday afternoon. At first it seemed just like a mosquito bite, didnt hurt. Later that night the size of the irritation was the size of my fist and red and hot to touch but still no pain. I went to Dr on tues and prescribed some antibiotics- i thought i might have been bit by a tick and have erythmia migrans. The bite site has grown, about the size of a large grapefuit or small mellon, red, swollen, hot to touch and the actual bite site was starting to blister. He told me to put warm compress on it and break the blister to release the fluid. He marked to bite area to monitor the spreading. So it is the next day, I believe the swelling went down and hasnt spread but the center is geting darker, almost looks like a bruise. I called the doc and he said to take some tylenol and put warm compress on it. I am not sure what bit me and if anyone can help me try to identify it i would really appreciate it. thank you

my husband had a small pimple on his stomach about a week ago. We though it was an ingrown hair. It kept getting larger and harder and he went to a med-express to get checked on tuesday. they gave him antibiotics and told him to put warm compresses on it. It was getting worse, the skin was falling off around the wound which is now about the size of a small lemon. He went back to med-express thursday and they told him to go to an emergency room. Needless to say he is having surgery right now to remove a hugh infection that probably was caused by a brown recluse spider bite. His stomach it red and swollen about 8 inches across and 6 inches down.

No photos available. I keep getting bitten, usually fairly near the same places, by something that leaves three distinct fang marks in a slight curve. Each fang breaks the skin. They hurt like but not as bad as touching a bull nettle, and I’m always bitten in bed, but when I throw back the covers to look I never can find anything. I have found spiders in my bed at times and killed them. about 2 weeks ago while shaving my right leg noticed a bump about 4 inches about my ankle bone, a day or so later noticed several blisters and a black dot. itched like crazy thought had poison ivy. went to ergent care, the dr. said possibly ivy or herpes simplex? He told me to go to my drs. if not better in 5 days when last last monday to my drs. said that I got bit by somthing not sure what. By this time It had became red several small blisters & also a blister by the size of a dime but smaller with the same black dot. He gave me a script for bactrim to take for 14 days. If not better in 2 weeks have to go back. I also have another spot with the same several small blister on my left knee, and on my right hip and also n the back of my right thigh.
What gives? Someone at work told me to use meat-tenderizer and water and make a paste and put it on my legg wear I was bitten. Any suggestions? I dont want it to look worse, or have to go to the er.

Regarding your pictures of unidentifies spiders…PAGE 3 bottome left and middle pictures… That is called a Tail-less Whip Scorpion. We have them in Arizona, and although they look very abnormal and somewhat unnerving, they seem to be harmless, and quite interesting if you study them =)

Hey, I have a series of crater-like sores on my right upper thigh (under my butt) and my right shin. They’re blistering over and seem to be healing but as soon as one heals more seem to appear. These sores all resemble images 9, 11, and 16 on page 20, although they aren’t as bad as image 16. I’ll try to send in images.

Do you think some sort of ferocious beast is eating my flesh in the night? I’m going to the doctore for it tomorrow, but any advice is encouarged, please!

I am in such a state of aggravation. I have been getting bitten on a regular basis for the past month. No one else in the house seems to be affected. The area starts out a little red spot and before you know it the total area becomes inflamed with several bumps which rise up with distinctive yellowish heads as point of insertion or point of the bite. Itches like crazy, hot to the touch and very very red in color, and I am a very brown skinned person. It seems to take forever to go away and as soon as it is about to go another one arises and i cant find any sign of what the hell it is that is eating me up. My mate sleeps with me and is never eat-tin up.

I was bit 14 hours ago, i waited 9 hours before going to th E.R., I live in north florida, I did not see the spider, but i leaned on a stool the pain shot through me, i cryed and suffered for 9 hours and could not take the pain anymore, so i finally went to the E.R.
We looked for the spider everywhere, no spider, turned the stool upside down, there was 3 egg sacks, looked them up an they were brown widow eggs. The doc at the E.R. gave me 2 different kinds of antibiotics and pain meds. The area where i was bit, is very red and swollen and burns soooo bad, body aches, headache, slight chest pains. So watch out they will hurt you.

my 18 month old son has a mark just like that on his shoulder. i took him to the er lastnight and we saw a “spider specialist”. he said it was the beging stage of a brown recluse bite. he put him on heavy anitbiotics and said to watch it. he said that if after 24 hours it has a black spot in the middle or red lines around to go to the hospital right away, that means the venom is spreading.

I have a bite like Heather R, #38. I’d like how I could maybe get some more info from her about her’s. What she used and maybe how long it lasted. I noticed redness,itching and a bit of a welt on Sunday November 16th. It wasn’t too bad then I wore a scarf when it was cold, a day or so later and it started to itch more, I scratched it quite a bit more, then it looked like Heather’s.

I don’t wear necklaces ever. The more I had scratched it the more irratated I made it, but when I realized it was getting worse was that Thursday 20th. A lady at a daycare said that it may be a ringworm, but not like any she’d ever seen. She suggested putting foot fungal creme, so I did. I used Lotriman creme for one day. That really didn’t seem to work and by Friday it was starting to get a darker red and a hard surface, like a scab. I put toothpaste and a band-aid on it to try and draw anything out. The next morning their was stuff on the band-aid, like greenish, yellow drainage. A nurse at work told me to use a hot tea bad on it to try an draw anything out and two doctors at my work said to use peroxide to keep it clean and that I could use neosporen after. I’ve been using those 3 remedies since Fri. 21st and the scabbed fell off on Monday 24th and the swelling went down. There’s still a red cirlce, like hers, just lighter than it was. It’s still pretty noticeble and embarrassing and seems like it’s going to scar. What should I do, if anything, besides there 3 things? I’d like to know if Heather’s is better, scarred,or still looks the same. Please help!!! Jenn V.

For years I have studied the behavior of insects and spiders. I have to send my sympathy for those who had to undergo the experiences of suffering from spider bites and other insect stings in general. Spiders have acute vision eight times more than that of a Dragonfly. They rely on sight, vision, so they require planning and execution. This simply means that while some spiders feed on nectar, others are predators. I have seen spiders lay wait for days simply because they detect that there is movement and activity in the area. Some use lay and wait, surveillance, and others use search and extract, search and attack and some use all the methods. Although spiders may generally only feed on other insects such as ants, roaches and other spiders, some do actually feed on small birds and small lizards. This only supports that spiders choose to eat what is contained in the dietary menus and in all cases they do not include humans or people. However, remember that they do have reflexive reactions to defend themselves when approached, disturbed or mistakenly reached for by the hand or foot.

I was at work tonight and noticed a bite on one of my scars from my surgery. It is swollen and red all around the area of the bite and my scar is swollen to. Any ideas on what might have bit me? There are two tiny puncture marks in the area of the bite.

HI, I have a bite on my right arm and it’s swollen and red all around the bite and it hurts when i touch it but it and it feels like burning it also is white beside the bite and bumppy I have had it for 2 days and it is getting worse like getting more red around it. and its hasn’t gone away yet and i dont no what it is if it is a spider bite. thank you if you have info so me that would be helpful

i looked at every single photo that you have posted and even though spider bits can be pretty nasty, i still LOVE them!

my boyfriends thinks its so gross but i love spiders. whenever there is a spider that needs to be killed, I’m the one that my friends, family and boyfriend always call.

its pretty neat to see what types of spiders and bites there are. but thank you for helping my identify the good, the bad and the ugly!

I had a rash that looked very similar to the one on page 3 far right,4th one down. At the time I assumed it was a spider bite, since we had so many spiders where we lived, but I didn’t actually see what bit me. I recently showed the picture to my Dr (because I’ve become very ill from a mystery illness) he said it could be from a number of things….any thoughts? Thanks.

I got a in this huge fight with a friend of mine who is spider obsessed and prides himself to be something of an expert (he’s 21 and dropped out of school before middle school, though,) anyway, he picked a fight with me when I said I got a spider bite, he got all defensive saying “spiders don’t normally bite people, man.” Yeah? I just got out of the hospital after suffering a bite from what looked like a harmless little spider, and what started as a little sore resulted in a trip to the emergency room and they had to remove an entire second of my foot. I didn’t have to point out the irony of this to my stupid friend.

To me, your rash looks like an Erythema Migrans(EM) also known as a bulls eye rash. It is a definitive sign/symptom of Lyme disease most likely from a tick bite but there are other vectors. Lyme has numerous other symptoms and often is a mystery disease or is misdiagnosed. With appropriate treatment most people get better. You can find good information on many sites but one that has just about all info and research is canlyme.com . There is a pretty good list of possible symptoms there too. You can have any combination of those basics listed on the site and or more.

Many regular doctors don’t know much about diagnosis and treatment of lyme and often use outdated protocols as well as are not aware of the high incidence of co-infections that can come from a single tick bite. Testing for lyme is very unreliable, particularly from commercial labs and especially in the earliest stages and the advanced stages. I highly recommend you read as much as you can about it and consider an evaluation from a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor. It’s good you have photo’s of your rash but it would be helpful to a physician to have one with a ruler or coin next to it for sizing.

That looks like a tick bite they have a target mark like yours be very careful of Lyme Disease. One can be tested many times and not show up on the tests. I you have long time symptoms or keep getting sick, keep getting tested even if it takes 30 times sooner or later it will show up. I am not trying to scare you and I am not a Doctor. Just keep it in mind if you keep getting you do not want it to get into secondary stage.

I didn’t really consider the idea of a spider bite until today, over a week after “the bite” appeared. I didn’t think earlier because on that day I got up and rode quite heavily on my bicycle and was on my feet for around 6 hours. I thought I must’ve bruised my tailbone or tore some soft tissue as the wound in next to the tip of the tailbone, just inside the bum cheek. It is hard to see and I could just feel a hard bump, feel intense heat radiating from the area and feel the muscles quite tight in its close region.

I’ve been in a lot of pain all week, unable to sit or lie on my back properly, and it wasn’t until the wound started oozing pus today that I came online and looked further into what could’ve caused this situation. I live in the South Adelaide Hills, and the wound looks most like photo number #21, just a bit larger and with angrier looking colour, from what I can tell. Could you forward on some information about what kind of spider it may have been and also how I can cure it? Thanks so much.

i think i have a spider bite i don’t know what to do my mum says its nothing but my dad says it is my mum doesn’t let me go to the doctors it looks … well you can see two wholes near each other looks quite deep but whats strange is that skin has grown over it but you can see through the skin and the wholes look at least half a centimeter deep and when you drag your finger over it exactly where the two wholes are there are bumps there and it is quite yellow but pink around i was wondering if you know what type of spider it was caused by and is the spider deadly and should i go to the doctors its very sore and when ever i step it hurts what should i do and what spider is it caused by or if its a spider at all ?

#130: Just a suggestion, however if I found this type of skin ulceration on myself, or particularly my dependent child; we would be at a physician/emergency room immediately. It seems odd that a responsible parent would not seek professional help for a child in that condition. only my opinion. best of luck.

as i was raking leaves today i felt fine until about an hour after, then my chest started hurting some so i called it quits. after cooling down bout 30 min to an hour i noticed a place on my lower leg was slightly red like a small rash, looks bruised slightly underneath the red and is tender like a bruise but very little swelling. there is another one bout the size of a dime on my upper leg whereas the other is more of an oval shape, could this possibly be a spider bite or more likely just a yard bug. i have not noticed a red traveling line nor fang marks yet

I have a bite on my hip that looks exactly like picture #10-not quite the size of a quarter-red with 2 distinct fang/puncture wounds in the center. Noticed it about a week ago while working outside. # 135 looks like the tell-tale symptom of Lyme Disease right after the tick bites and falls off. See your Dr immediately. Doxycycline is what my mom takes for it and it works well. Could be 6 month prescription or longer, but it works well for her

Well this morning my 9 year old daughter woke up to get ready for school and she showed me this blister like bite in her inner arm, and we are not sure if its a spider bite and if it is we don’t know what kind of spider it was, but i cleaned it with peroxide this morning, and then put on some neosporin also, and i took her room apart this morning to fully clean it, and found no signs of any spiders, by the way our cat sleeps on her bed with her, so maybe im thinking our cat did away with it. please help me out with this mystery spider, we live in the desert. how long do i keep doing home remedies before we take her to the doctor for this we dont want it to get any worse…. please help thank you so much …..

corner of a room. Felt like a very hard pinch and then burning on
the back of leg. Then both arms aches, and still feeling it. Where

I was recently bitten by a black jumping spider while working in my flower bed and let me tell you I never knew that little thing could leave such a mark that hurts terribly bad. It almost feels like I have a great big pimple on my leg that won’t come to a head so I can pop it. The area around the bite is really hard and swelled up and of course red in color. I found what works best to releave the pain is a bag of ice to help with the swelling and rubbing alcohol. The alcohol stings a little but it does help to drap out the nasty stuff inside. Thanks

I really think this looks like a tick bite, it would explain why you are sick. If your doctor did not recognize this, I would get a second opinion (bring in the photo since I am sure by now the bite is gone). Tick bites can be serious and carry Lyme Disease, so if you are still sick have them test you for Lyme Disease! Good Luck.

I have a bite on my right arm and it hurts the same day of the bite I started getting a fever, headache, runny nose, cough, and spitting up cold. Could this be a spider bite. It was not swoll until I bust the pus bump. it was even swollen even more the next day. it is red around it about the size of a quarter.

Mine looks like Amy #29 on my right arm, man it hurts its all sore. It popped yesterday and all this pus and gunk/blood came out then it closed up and its hard as a rock size a little bigger than a quarter, man it hurts really bad happened on Good Friday so its been about 6-7 days now Im feeling like I need to go to the Dr. I found a spider just hanging out in the corner of my kitchen its clear/brown color afraid to get next to that bad boy…let me know.

I’m going crazy! every morning I wake with 5 to 10 more bites than when I went to sleep! they look like mosquito bites but no1 else is being bit and its in a group every time.. why am I the only 1 being bit and what can I do to keep them away from me? I’m absolutely terrified of spiders, so this is pretty bothersome.

I was bitten sometime during doing yard work or after I went to bed last night. I found the bite today. It is very sore and red with some purple around it and seems to be getting slightly bigger. I also feels like a hard knot is inside of it and feels like the knot moves I push on it and to touch it is painful. I did try to pop it and even poked it with a needle, but nothing but blood came out . It is very warm to the touch. My yard if full of oak trees. Yes, there have been several small very dark brown spiders killed and they were 2 larger brown spiders.

I spray all the time for spiders. I however have squashed them before I could get a good look. I have been bitten during the night 2 times in 2 yrs on my hand, and those have healed, but have hard knots left and a scar. Anyone have

I have been bitten by some type of poisonous spider 2 times now in the past month! Both times in the upper leg area and it leaves a huge bruise about the size of a tea cup saucer. It stings when it first bites me but not bad and then the itching starts and lasts for about 30-45 minutes….then it hurts but not horribly. It looks like the picture of Darlene’s leg on page 15 of your website. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I was out baby-sitting for a friend in Fontana and got bit by a spider on my stomach. I didnt realize that it was a bite until i got it looked at by family. I ended up having to go to the hospital to really have it looked at it was pink and purple and day by day it would get bigger, its very sore and painful. It looks like the 4th picture in row 1. Be careful you never no what’s out there so keep an eye out for any kind of spiders.

My granddaughter was bitten yesterday afternoon. We’re not sure by what but the swelling and redness are continuing. My daughter took her to the ER last night and they did not seem too concerned. However, this morning the swelling has doubled and now extends to behind her ear and is starting to affect her other eye. It also extends all the way from her forehead to her lower jaw. It is starting to look bruised. The bite mark is on her forehead and has not been weeping. Any suggestions?

Noticed on Sunday, May 24th small, quarter shaped bare spot on my horses right cheek and swelling in right side of face, neck and right teat. No fever. Started round of antibiotics. By Wednesday, May 27th the bare spot was the size of the palm of my hand, oozing green putrid liquid, and a swollen knot. Swelling in neck and teats was reduced. No fever. Vet by phone recommended stop of antiobotics and start cortizone treatment. Thursday, May 28th wound was so putrid you couldn’t stand to be within 20 feet of mare. In the evening we decided to clean wound (vets wouldn’t make farm call – called 6! Finally found one who will be out in the morning. We didn’t want to transport unless absolutely necessary due to 15 day old foal).

Photo one is before. Lightly palpitated area and liquid flushed out of open wound. This was essentially liquefied flesh not infection and pus as originally suspected. Used scalpel to cut away dead flesh. Then cleaned out wound with betadine scrub and flush. See following pictures. Horse was relieved and actually leaned into scrubbing like it felt good (was itchy?). Looks really, really bad. Vet will give direction tomorrow.

A few days ago, on my birthday of all days, I noticed a very sore and very red mark on my arm. I thought it was a pimple because that was what it looked like, almost like a white head but I couldn’t figure out how on earth I got a pimple on my arm. I left it alone that night just washing the area expecting it would be less visible the next day. I woke up the next day and it was actually more inflamed and painful. I attempted to ‘pop’ what I thought was a pimple but absolutely nothing happened except for a lot of pain.

I then left it alone thinking it was possibly a similar blood poisoning mark which I had 5 years ago that looked very similar except with the blood poisoning there was a visible trace line from the mark, I was very concerned but I went to work and tried to cover it up at it was pretty gross looking. The next day I awoke and it was still visibly red and now surrounded by a bruise and it had begun to peel surrounding it as well it no longer hurt a much I left it alone. Today one of my friends saw the mark on my arm and said it looked like a spider bite or at least a insect bite. So I was wondering if it was. I did some research and it looks similar to a few of the photos on this site. I live in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Is there any spiders that could do this up this way?

While I was sleeping last night a spider must have bit me. My bite looks like image #21. At first the bite mark was flat – not raised, bright red, and about the size of a quarter. Wihtin 30 minutes of me noticing the red area a raised bump appeared and formed what looks like a blister. Very quickly the blister thing got bigger and bigger. My lower abdomen hurts and my temp is a little higher than normal. I went to the Doctor and he is treating it with Prednisone. Can anyone please tell me if they know what kind of spider bit me? I live in Wisconsin.

i was going fishing with my friends and we were walking on this trail with a bunch of trees and it was kind of swampy. i didn’t feel it bite me but when i got home my calf started to itch but i thought it was a mosquito bite. then this morning i woke up and my calf felt like someone had punched it and it hurts when i walk. its red and swollen and sore. there is a two pronged bite mark. can someone please tell me what kind of spider it could be? i live in north Alabama if that helps.

Please help! I was turned away from the doctors office because of an outstanding bill (insurance screw up, I’ll not go into it) and, since I don’t have the money to pay the bill, well, I can’t go see a doctor.

I have NO idea what bit me. I thought it was a mosquito, because I was outside in the open and had other bites. But this one… if you look closely you can see the sting… I’m scared because I’m not sure if it’s actually a spider bite — I don’t want my leg to rot off! Someone please please tell me what this is…

The bite occurred Thursday (june 4th) evening. The first photo was taken the following Sunday (june 7th) evening. The second photo was taken 5 minutes ago (june 8th).

Also, I’d like to add that the area is hot, mildly itchy, and hard. There are no red streaks, and the swelling is minimal. However, I can *feel* that the hardness goes kind of deep into my calf muscle. I’m not sure if the discoloration (purple) in the second pic is from my having scratched at it too much or if it’s turning purple so it can turn black and my leg can rot off.

Hi. My husband and I are in South Africa (Cape Town and the surrounds) and was bitten by what we think was a spider. It looks very like image 16 on the first page of pictures. I wondered if anyone could tell us what type of spider it may be. The poison is in the vein but no symptoms, apart from the bite being very, very itchy.

Okay, so I guess I freaked out over nothing. I think my step dad was right, that this was just a bee sting of some sort gone bad. Today the swelling is practically gone, the itching too. And the fever in the area has subsided completely. Still doesn’t feel as *squishy* as the rest of my skin but it is no where near as rock hard as it was when I posted previously.

I was at the beach in tampa fl and noticed a bite mark on my little finger. It did not hurt but was a little red and the area was raised a lil. The next day i could not bend my finger bc it was swollen a good amount. I have no idea what could have bitten me but its swollen, red, lil itch, and sore. Can anyone tell me what could have bitten me and what I can do? I also have a lotttt of mosquito bites that are itching like crazy what can i get to stop the itch?

my 16 month old woke up this morning with a small round bruise on the upper portion of her back, close to her neck, its round and bluish black in the middle and red around it, there are no fang marks or holes, but i know this mark wasn’t on her last night, could it have been a spider bite and what sort of spider could it be?

I live in a suburb of Pittsburgh, not really near any woods or anything. I was driving home from work two days ago, and my arm started itching. When I got home, I realized I had been bit twice by a mosquito on the same arm, or so I thought. The bites started swelling and I have two large red areas on my arm. This has never happened to me before, so I imagine I got bit by some sort of spider I am allergic to? No fever or anything, just a lot of swelling and itching.

i was bit by a spider or something did not see what it was. it bit me about 4 times . each bite has 3 blisters but 1 only has 2 around all the bites its red (baseball size) ill try to get a pic and post it i want to know what type a spider bite it is.been to the hospital about it they said if it doesn’t get better in 2 to 3 days come back.

My mom was bitten last week by something while pulling weeds. We think it was a spider, she went to the doctors got an anti-biotic shot and is still taking an anti-biotic. The red swollen rash appears to be getting bigger and itching more and in the middle of it is a black spot about the size of a black watermelon seed. Do you know if this could be a spider bite and if we should seek further treatment?

My old g-friend whom was a dr. once told me of a patient that had a sore on his face and after unsuccessfully treating this with antibiotics they decide to lance it open and once they did either spider eggs or baby spiders came out……Is this possible?? please reply for I have a friend that thinks he was bite by a spider and I told him he needs to get this checked out and then told him this story and he did not believe me.

i have what i think is a bite of some sort ive had it for a week.It started off just itchy then i noticed a dot or maybe a puncture wound. its been a week now and it is red around the dot about an inch in diamiter swollen and raised. it feels like a marble underneath and is sensitive. i show no other sings of anything else and there is no infection or any kind of fluid at all. i live in northern california. please help

Its rained in my city just recently so all the spiders came out. I got bit on my calf on the right leg, it has about two big bite marks and two smaller ones below a little to the left. It does not burn, sting, itch. Should I be worried? The reddness is about the size of a nickel. I am only 11 and my mom wants to know if I need a doctor appointment.

I was just sitting on the couch and I ran my hand across the fabric and I felt something like when you run your skin along a needle. It hurt a little, and when I pulled my hand back, the area where it hurt was slightly red and has two extremely small markings that look like this:

I have to have it drained because there is so much build up and my antibiotics aren’t working, and on top of that I’m 7 1/2 months pregnant, I have NO idea what bit me, all we have around here is brown recluses, wolf spiders, and other little random ones.

i was bitten about 2 weeks ago (7/02) and a mark was left on my face in image #13. i woke up and noticed in the bathroom mirror that there was a blood drip on the left side of my face. i wiped it off and noticed 2 small puncture wounds at the blood site. since this occurred my jaw (left side)
became sore and very stiff. this symptom went away and now i’ve developed vertigo only when i turn on my left side and when i wake up in the morning i feel like i’ve been on a 5 day drunk. i do not drink. thanks.

I felt a “stick” in my leg a few days ago and then yesterday I noticed a large bruised area around what appears to be a unusually large “pimple” type bump filled with white pus on my thigh. It’s red around the bump and after bathing, it ruptured and the skin sloughed off revealing an ugly sore underneath. Could this be a spider bite? I don’t really have any further symptoms that I’m aware of.

I woke up 2 days ago and found a blister on my leg. It seems to be the same color as the rest of my leg, and it doesnt really hurt or itch or anything. I have no other symptoms thus far. I’m just worried that it might potentially turn out to be something serious. I have no idea how I could have gotten a random blister on the side of my leg, so it seems strange. I don’t remember being bitten. On July 24, Friday night, I was getting undressed for bed & felt a small amount of liquid when i accidentally scratched a “pimple like” bump on my thigh. It is about the same diameter as a bic pen, not particularly sensitive. I pulled off what I thought was scabbing that was black in color, but I think it was blackened skin. It now appears to be turning black again. In N.California, North Napa county. Lots of spiders including black widows. No Dr.s appt. scheduled yet.

I have been bitten three times now in the past few weeks. Twice on my left shin, close to the ankle and once on the back of my right heel. The one on my heel didn’t cause much problem, but I still have a scab there. The second bite on my left leg got puffy, red and pussy. My doctor had me put some lynacane on it, but that didn’t do much and it got much worse and began spreading over more of my leg, then my ankle got real swollen and my lymphs at the hips got tender. Then my doctor gave me a steroid and some pennicillen of some kind and that knocked it out, but not before I got what I think was hives (my doctor says insect bites don’t cause hives) all over my upper legs hips arms and arm pits. Benedryl fixed that up pretty fast. Then just as I thought I was getting over it all, I got bit again. I have never seen or felt what is biting me, but have thrown a lot of spiders out of my house. My doctor gave me steroids again for the latest bite and the hives only came back a little bit and again benedryl took care of that. The third bite is still healing as I write. I am wondering what steps I might take to prevent more bites? Any ideas out there? I changed my sheets, tipped my recliner over and checked it out for spiders and am hoping I am done with this.

I have a bite which I can not find a picture of and I did not take on for lack of a camera atthe time. It was round about the size of a dime. Swollen red ring around the outside. then in a perfect circle just inside were about 12 to fifteen very small holes, about the size of a hair each, like the legs of the thing were buried in my skin, In the very middle was a very deep hole . It did not go away even after three doctors looked at it . First they thought it a spider, than I found a bettle looking thing over my bed and took that to the doctor. He said probably. I then showed the extermator who said it was a cricket bite. After 4 months and thee doctor cutting of dead skin it has healed but has left a red spot on my skin. I wish I knew what it really was, Spider, betel or cricked. Any ideas?

I have a bite that looks the same as # 174 It is now 7 days old and is not getting better. I originally thought it was poison ivy and thought the two black dots were dirt. I cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol last Friday. Broke out in slight case of hives that night, and took 75mg of Benadryl.

I have been treating it with Hydrocortisone, which has made the itching tolerable. My foot has started swelling, and I realized it is not poison ivy, but probably a spider bite. The red area is about 1 1/2 inches in diameter, and the two black dots are about 1/2 inch apart.

Thanks for your help. I plan to see the doctor on Monday.

I was bitten by spider few years ago. Don’t know whether it was while at nature center or plant store, or perhaps at home. After visiting those two places, I went home and took a nap. Woke up with blister the size of quarter on my shoulder. Very painful AFTER blister broke when my blouse touched it. Friend put Tea Tree Oil ointment on it and kept changing dressing for several days. Now sever years later I can’t seethe scar.

A few years later I was moving and saw a baby brown recluse come out of a book cover binding. It run down my arm and bit me. I put tea tree oil (liquid) on it. No lasting damage.

A few nights ago I was bitten on the foot. Woke myself up jerking my foot out from under the sheet and jumped out of bed. Foot was on fire and bite area was swelling fast. I was out of Tea Tree Oil but I did have some collolidal silver so I put that on it. Instant relief. Swelling and pain gone almost immediately. Guess I am going to load up on Tea Tree Oil and collolidal silver! Can’t say it will work on every kind of bite, but so far so good.

At Dugway Proving Ground, UT in 2002. After about 2 weeks there I woke up to find a strange pink mark on my inner R. Thigh. It was 2″ dia and shaped exactly like a hexagon! Thats right a Hexagon! A half-moon mark about 1″ was next to it. How in Gods name did it get there and WHY that shape? Heard of abductions from Dugway as its a hotspot for Gov. activity but man…Lord, I tried to wash it off, no way. I kept to myself about it til after it faded away, 30 days or so.
Does anyone know of this or had this experience?

I got bite by something, never saw it, I was asleep in bed on a Saturdaynight. It appeared as a red pimple with whitehead on top. I popped it and pus came out. By Sunday night another small whitehead came up next to it. It wouldn’t pop. By Monday my forearm was swollen and the bite site was red and inflammed. It was very hot to touch and I couldn’t touch it without severe pain.It started to have a circle of red inflammation around bite site the size of three inches on all sides. I started taking Ibuprofen and the swelling went down a little, but the bite kept getting more infected. I began to get nasaus by Tuesday night . I tried to go to doctor on Weds but she wasn’t in that day, had to wait till Thurs. She said it was a bite mark but I couldn’t tell what bit me. I know it had to be a spider. We see them in my house all the time. Brown ones and dark brown ones. By Friday it had the black hole on it just like picture #21. It’s not draining though. Still has hard knot under it and still hurts. The doctor gave me a shot of steroids and I’m on steriods for 5 days and antibiotics for 7 days. It still looks bad. Wish I knew what bit #21 because it looks just like mine. Could you tell me? Thanks.

I have a spider bite on my left thigh. I don’t know what kind of spider bit me but it has been very painful. I had chills and muscle aches for two days. I went to the doctor and was given an antibiotic shot and two antibiotic prescriptions to take for ten days. I have been applying hot moist compresses to the area. It has finally starting draining and I mean it is some nasty looking stuff that is coming out of the wound. The doctor told me I have cellulitis and if I don’t see any improvement of the next couple of days that I would need to go and see an infectious disease doctor.

Hi I was wondering…..well today I did my garage sale and while fixing my clothes at the garage I felt like a really electric shock and it did hurt SO MUCH…..well right away I thought maybe my portable closet had some electricity around or something well my arms where up high so I knew it couldn’t be an ant or anything like that because I’ve seen lots of big spiders…..but I just spray a lot with bugs sprays and all kind of stuff anyways….well I felt a very bad pain all the way to my shoulder and I looked and it was red and had like a big dot red and around started to get swollen, so I went and put alcohol on it until now that I’m done working …..is hurting really bad but not sure what insect is it so I started searching right now.

Hopefully it doesn’t get worst I got a burning and painful sensation in that area so not sure if I should take a Tylenol ….if any one knows where to look to find out more about bites thanks !!

After taking a nap one afternoon I woke to find the right side of my nose burning. I asked my daughter to look at it and she said it looked as if someone has scratched a long mark down the side of my nose. By nightfall the right side of my nose was covered in what I call “water blisters” and it looked as if that side of my nose had been scalded. The blisters have since “popped” and scabbed over and the area is really sore and sometimes itchy. I’m treating it with antibioitic ointment. Spider bite was the only explaination I could come up with.

I have something on the underside of my left arm, at first glance it looks like a pimple and when you look closer it looks more like a mosquito bite…but it’s not itchy and the area around it is pretty wide, it’s not exactly swollen around it but more so puffy…I’m not sure if this is an infected mosquito bite or some kinda spider bite. Last summer I woke to find a huge bruise on my right arm that looked as though I was punched in the arm…the day before that I had been hiking through the woods with my best friend and my girlfriend so I know that was some kinda spider bite, but I have no clue what the hell this is. It looks kinda like the last picture but the center isn’t swollen, it’s more like the center of a mosquito bite.

Last year I had a bruise that was swallen and it came out to be Lymes Disease. I have it in the same area as where i got bitten by a deer tick. This time I have several bites. They are somewhat dry, and peeling but I’m thinking it’s spider bites because I have found at least 6 spiders on me the past week. It seems puffy, but not too swallen.

I have been bitten once before many years ago… I felt it, and it swelled up like an egg and was white in color I think. (I was 11 or so at the time so I’m sure my memory isn’t exactly on point) This bite I first noticed Sunday and thought it was a bug bite. Tonight though, I really started to notice it bothering me and after looking at it, it has gotten bigger, now has a bite mark in the middle and has a hard lump in it and it hotter than the skin surrounding it. Could it be a spider bite or something else?

I dont seem to find these spiders anywhere on the web! They seem to be pretty small to medium size, brown with white bubble butts, but their butts have a brown pattern on it. There are probably a dozen that only come out at night and live on the outside of my garage (which happens to be where I live) I was curious if anyone could tell me what they are and if they are dangerous. Like i said they are only out there on their webs at night. The same webs that i knock down every morning, and they multiply every night!!!!

I’m not sure if I have a spider bite. on the inner part of my left arm, there is a pronounced small white bump that stings when I touch it. What’s wierd is that it is encircled by an ugly bruise, kinda making it look like a doughnut bruise. My whole torso and arm have been extremely itchy! I was bitten by a spider on the top of my foot, but I didn’t see it or feel it. I had been walking barefoot in the yard at night and it happened after that. My foot was red and warm and the skin felt tight. Then the muscles in my legs started aching. I couldn’t sit still and I felt like I had a fever. My temperature was 102. I didn’t relate it to my foot though. The next day I felt even worse and went to my doctor and my fever was 104.6. I thought I had the flu. She gave me an antibiotic and the next 24-48 hours I felt terrible. The redness on my foot was now spreading up my leg to my knee and I went to the ER. They said it was cellulitis and gave me a shot of Cleocin and 2 antibiotics to take at home (doxycycline and Bactrim).

I was allergic to the Bactrim and was switched by my doctor to Levaquin. The redness and swelling started going down but it started opening up and there was a hole in my foot. This was after 2 weeks. My doctor sent me to the Wound Care Center who told me it was a spider bite. They cleaned it up, débrided it, probed the hole and found 2 tunnels. I’m putting Dakin solution on iodoform (string of gauze) and putting it loosely in the tunnels now. They just did a culture on it. They couldn’t previously because I was already on antibiotics and you can’t be on antibiotics and have a culture done. I hope it will close up. This happened August 3rd. It’s taking a long long time.

I was bitten by a spider 15 days ago. It looks like Debbie’s bite image #25(2nd page, 1st row, last image). There were tiny cluster of white blister in the middle of a dark read knot, with red around that, which extended from the top of my knee to the top of my thigh. I was bitten on the top inside thigh on the left leg… extremely painful, hard to bear weight on that leg, dizzy, light headed, headache and did not want to eat. At first it itched and was a stinging sensation. I have been on antibiotics for 14 days, anitfungal medicines and pain medicines…

It now looks to be healing, the knot behind the bite is still there, but the doctor cleaned the scab off and cleaned the wound… Looks to healing still painful in the joints on that leg, but very minor pain… Doctor said it could take month or so for it to heal completely and have no pain…. No Doctor or anyone could tell me what bit me… Help, does anyone know what has bit me???

I recently found a spider in my attic. It is small, like a 1/4 to a /2 inch and it is jet black except for orange spots all over it’s body. It has a purplish head. I currently have it trapped in a glass. I couldn’t get a picture at all, inside or outside the glass, even with my macro lens.

Hi there. Im 24 years old. and I know most of you will call me a liar. Because what happened to me is an unbelievable story….but when I was attending middle school many years ago. I got my first brown recluse bite on my leg. It was so bad I almost lost my leg but thankfully found medicine that fixed that. But I still have the scar. I literally had a hole I could fit my finger into in my leg. Then I kept on getting bit over and over again. Got very sick..I got bit so many times I lost count after nine times. But once in awhile I will have these itchy dots (what they use to look like after my medicine) on my legs to this day,. Would it be possible to be bitten so many times that I got immune???

My daughter looks like she got bitten by an insect…but I can’t figure out if it is an insect or spider bite. There is a red swollen area on her arm, like the width of a golf ball size. But yet swollen enough to notice the red mark area. The area is warm where its red and the rest of the arm is normal cool temp and she said that it hurts when touched and it itches. There is no sign of any bite mark.

Please, let me know what you suggest.

I got a sharp pain on my foot. About half an hour later my hands and arms started to itch. I took Benadryl. About an hour later I noticed my leg and foot swelling, and they too started to itch. The day after two large blisters appeared, about one and a quarter inches across, one above my toes and one on my heel.

The photo on page 9, number 1, looks very much like my blisters.

Any idea what bit me?

I had gotten bit by a spider yesterday, while sitting on my porch. The bit is on the back of my leg. It swelled up with in ten minutes and it was sting. This afternoon (which it about 18 hrs. later) the area where the spider bit it swelled up to a 4 inch circle all around. Right, now it is really itchy and I can feel heat coming from it when I lay my hand on the area.
Do doctors treat such a bite? Or, Do I wait it out?

Hello, yesterday on saturday, i noticed something on the back of my arm which looked like a pimple a small one really, then on Sunday which is today, it still looks like a pimple but it is really red around it and i try to pop it but it won’t pop, im trying to figure out if it is a spider bite,bed bug bite, or just a clogged pore, because, im seeing some pictures that look like it but get worse and im just worried, please respond

Yesterday at noon, I was getting out of my van and felt a sharp stinging sensation on the back of my thigh. I went into my house, and took off my pants and shook them. Nothing. I had 4 small sized bumps with white head. They look like zits. One is a little bigger than the others. Today, the bumps look the same, the bigger one has a little bit if red around it. I am so afraid that this is a brown recluse spider bite. I am going to the doctor tomorrow afternoon. Anyone ever experience these type of bites? Thanks.

October 11 and October 12 , 2009, been bitten by my neck side, with the same symptoms like Megan, Katie, Shannon, Shannon, on the same night, prob same hours with similar spider… that flick me off when i saw same day claim.

don’t have insurance just taking antibiotic, and today Oct 17, look solid like stone… itch little thou, hope someone will reply soon!! cant afford to loose my neck!!! or have hole in my neck.

My daughter has bites in different spot on her body I’m confused as to what they are and they just keep coming, they start out red bumps and then they look like little blisters and she scratches them open. I’m finding little spiders all through my house. Could they be spider bites. I have some pictures for you.

I was bitten by something which left 8 bites, all at the same time. When I scratched them, the skin broke and I had like 8 little craters. Do you know what insect does this? I live in Belgium, so I’m almost sure it was not a tropical (dangerous) insect.

Sorry i don’t have a pic as of right now but i don’t know if i could send you one because of where it is at. but i do need to know if i should see a doctor. My husband and i was hiking and i leaned over a wooden bridge. I felt many stinks on my right breast. I looked nothing was there so i didn’t think anything of it. later that night over 1 am i felt pain so i got up to look. it was fire cracker red with a gray green hole. the swelling was bad ! I put ice on it.

it helped some what. but i do have some small pimples like in the middle of my chest not on the red part, starting to become more of them all over. I feel like crap. I get very cold at times . the hole as turned black now but itches like crazy on the red spot. the red spot is getting bigger almost on my hole breast. I am scared of going to the doctor because its on my breast. Can anyone give me some tips ? thank you

Today is Thursday and I was examining my face when I saw what looked like a pimple forming. It didn’t hurt even though it was above my eyebrow so I picked at it. It scabbed up overnight and became a bump Monday. I didn’t notice that some of the bump went under my eyebrow. Tuesday I thought the “pimple” was just getting bigger and a small portion of the bump covered my eye, not completely just a centimeter over it.

Wednesday was horrible, the “pimple” was throbbing, the size of a golf ball, holding my eye shut, and pulsing with pain. Today it shrunk a little but the pain worsened. It looked like a pimple again, just really big. I scraped off the scab (stupid) and saw the yellow puss that comes from pimples. A very large amount of puss mixed with blood came out but the yellow puss stayed. I can feel the yellow puss as if it is my tissue and it won’t come out. I have been taking ibprofen since yesterday and every four hours the pain comes back worse. I’m now taking 2-4 times the normal amount and can still feel it.

There is also a very hard quarter sized sphere under the bump. I don’t have insurance so no doctor and my parents don’t trust me at all. They literally made jokes and laughed at me. They only believe what they can see which is definitely clear. Help?

yes, I got a spider bite, it started as a simple mosquito bite but it spread out through my leg in a couple of hours. I felt it sore, numb, itchy and very painful to the point that I could not walk. Of course, I went to the doctor’s office as soon as I could, I am under strong medication, but it is taking too long to heal.

I have been getting little light red bites on my feet and legs. There is a white clear fluid in the middle at first and it itches really bad. I am in the process of moving so there are a lot of boxes being moved. I’m freaked I may have bed bugs, however only sign is the bites and I did see around 12 spiders over the last few days as I have been moving. Also one day in my sheets, as I was taking them off to wash them. I saw what appeared to be a tiny red spider. If I have bed bugs, this is the first I have noticed of them. Should I throw my bed out and get a new one. I have to be out of my condo in three days and I am so scared I have already spread bugs into my new place.

I believe a spider bit me on the butt, I have two holes, one is larger than the other. I was sleep and didn’t feel the bite, and I have no evidence of what type of spider it was. It has been almost one week, on about day 3 it started puss and my daughter squeezed it and poured peroxide on it and I’ve been putting neosporin on it. Since then it has a clear scab over it, but it is still very score, I haven’t been feeling that well, but I’m not running any fever, just headaches and extremely sore. I don’t have health insurance and really don’t want to go to the emergency room if it is not detrimental.

I woke up with bites on my neck and later in the day there was a bump that emerged on my arm. I just got back from a trip and stayed at a nice hotel. I just noticed a mosquito flying around- but it is now november and i live in ny– the bites are in patterns of two in some places. they are pretty swolen and red tonight.
it would be weird if i had bed bugs suddenly- i’m hoping that is n ot what it is.

It was very itchy and it swelled and has a puss bubble and it had a block spot in the middle of it. the black spot was smaller than an eraser of a pencil. Three days later it hasn’t changed much. Redness is getting bigger and the black stuff went away a little bit. can you please tell me what bit me and if i need to seek medical attention?

At first, I had a large pus-blister on my leg. When I popped it, it turned into a gigantic, swollen goose egg that protruded from my tibia. It’s rather unpleasant, and I would definitely appreciate some feed back on the matter. Thank you.

I guess I can join the unfortunate ones who have been bitten by spiders. I woke up on Christmas Eve with a large lump about the size of a walnut. It was red and painful. Day 2 seemed to be worse. There were three small black dots in the center which turned into one. Today the lump is gone but there is an area that is swollen and whelps. My inner ear is swollen and my face is feeling numb. It seems that what ever was in the lump is now out and all around the area.

It is located on my right shoulder close to my neck. Day 3, I looked on the web and was terrified at what I saw. I raced to the emergency room. The doctor told me to put heat on it 20 min at a time. He also gave me a round of antibiotics and a steroid injection. I have started the heat and already I am getting liquid from it. I will keep you up to date on what happens next. I have been bitten before but never this severe.

I woke up in the middle of that night itching extremely bad. but there was no spot til the next day. its now a red circle with purplish blue bruising around it. it still itches and stings really bad and its been 7 days! anyone know what this could be?

Hi heather, I have the same thing on my neck. It started out as a couple small dots and it itches a lot. I itched it and it got sort of bubbly and sore. It’s been here for almost three months now. It doesn’t itch at all anymore. I went to the doctor a couple weeks ago and I was giving a cream to apply to the spot twice a day and I was also giving an antibiotics in case the cream didn’t work. My doctor was also puzzled about it.

She didn’t even know what it is. So, I’ve been applying the cream but it hasn’t worked. He redness and inflammation has slightly decreased but it’s still slightly lumpy. I started taking the antibiotics yesterday. I haven’t worn a necklace in a very long time, so I know it’s not from a necklace. Please, I need help. Could this be ring worm?

I seemed to have been bitten by something 2 or 3 days ago. The bite is on my right calf.It Started as just like a mosquito bite or something, red and itchy. Yesterday I started noticing it to be sore to the touch and last night started noticing soreness in the muscle around the bite. It hurts to tense up the muscle or even walk on It. This morning the soreness is really bad and there is a red ring around the bite. I marked it with a marker to see if it was getting bigger and sure enough about 5 or 6 hours later it is definately getting bigger, and even more sore. Its hard, red, and sore. my boyfriend got a spider bite last Aug 08, the bite was by the arm pit. the spider bit him twice before he managed to kill it. the spider was about an inch in diameter grinish and black. the bite got like most of the bites shown; it got swollen, redish, with a white pussy top. He states it hurts alote, it went away and with in a month it came back again in a different spot near the other one. Is there such a spider bite that its side effects wont go away? Please i need a response.

I was at a fire last night and I felt a mild prick on my leg which felt at the time like a fire ant bite. I thought nothing of it and today I woke up and it looks like about a nickel sized part of my skin is raised a tiny bit and in the middle I have a little tiny dot and some clear/yellow juice is coming out of it. I live in central Florida. What could this be?

So, I’m not so sure, but I think I got bit by a spider in my house. My house is infested with Brown recluse’s and Hobo spiders. I do not have a picture but someone told me it kind of looks like an ingrown hair. I’m kind of sciared and don’t know what to do if it is a spider bite. It is a big bump the size of a nickle. I poped it and puss and green stuff came out and now it is kind of black at the top. Can you help me?

It’s on the back of my neck, 3 bites almost perfectly in a row, going from top to bottom. Do spiders bite repeatedly like that?
If so, which type do so? When I first got the bites, they were itchy and painful at times. And now after almost 4 weeks the bites still show. If you know please send the answer.

hello. i had no idea what this thing was at first, but after doing some research i really believe its a bite, im not sure what kind though. at first it only looked like a small pimple or something on my stomach then it grew to a dime size and became very painful whenever i would sit down or anything touched it, even lightly. i thought it was a pimple so i tried to use my fingers to squish the pimple between them, it was extremely painful so i stopped, but some thick blood and white yellowish puss came out. im freakin out now, it hurts. is there anything i can get at a pharmacy without going to the ER or seeking a doctor just yet? id appreciate any help thank you.

but couldn’t find where it said what kind of bite or whatever it was? Can you help? The pictures are helpful but when there is no information about it to follow up with, it becomes pretty useless. To just see something that looks like mine, doesn’t do many any good, unless it tells me what it is!
