Got bit/stung in the garden trimming hedges, webs were present on the bush I was trimming, didn’t see a spider or wasp. This was Monday 5/28/07. Bite was sharp like a sting, nothing after. Developed hoarseness, sore throat, fatigue, cough next day, thought allergies nothing noticed at site, actually forgot about incident. Wednesday morning noted two round raised reddened, painful marks where I had been bitten/stung on Monday. Each mark approx. .25 cm side be side for a total of .5cm in length, width is .25cm. Still am hoarse, cough, sore throat and fatigue. Can you tell me what kind of bite and treatment if any needed? Thanks!

I have a spider bite on my knee. It is the shape of a circle and hard only on the outer area. It really itches and there are also bumps and redness. It gets a little bigger every day, but the center seems to be the only part that is healing. The skin in the center is peeling and is not red at all. One or two of the bumps seem to have fluid in them.

Just a follow up on my bites turns out there were over thirteen on my right leg! Last night the pain in my leg was almost unbearable, but today they started weeping and they are starting to feel better. Still would like to know what bit me though!!

I’m not sure if this is a spider bite or not. Small blister-like lesion in center (on my ankle) - extremely red around the area; scattered rash-like spots moving outwards of area. Very little itching - but very noticeable…..not sure if it is serious or not???

    Hi there,
I live in a dry part of Colorado and about three days ago I found something that looks like a pimple on my leg. Its red all around it and my upper leg aches. When touched it feels like a painful bruise and it hasn’t gone away in three days. Its not serious symptoms but I am still a bit afraid. If anyone could help identify the bite, spider or not, that would be great.

I live in the Pacific NW and was bit by a spider while pruning large bushes and cleaning the garage out. It was painless, on my forearm, with a small center hardened and white with appearance of 2 small puncture holes and started out with a light yellow darkening area around it, the total size of an egg. It then got darker, the opposite of a bruise..usually a bruise yellows after healing. I thought I bruised myself working out in the yard. A friend warned me to go to the doctor and I am glad I did. Doctor put me on heavy antiboitics and a shot in the hip. Said it looked just like a brown recluse spider bite and it would have enventually turned purple and then black due to the skin rotting. A another friend that worked as an pest exterminated said it was a HOBO spider bite (the cousin of the Brown Recluse), as they are aggressive and common in the area. I had no pain from the bite other then a strange sort of numbing sensation best I can describe. I hope this helps and go to the DOCTOR. Needless to say I did not work in the yard anymore that summer.

I was bitten about a week ago, at first it looked like a tick bite, and im used to those so i just ignored it, but a few days later i noticed it was swelling and it hurt a little, then i couldnt even walk, i had to use crutches to go to school, so i went to the emergency room yesterday, and they told me that the bites are from either a black widow or a brownhouse spider.

I have 2 bites, and i think another one is coming up under my arm, one is on the back of my knee, very swollen and i cant walk, the other is on my hip, which hurts when i put my jeans on, the one on my hip i can pop and squeeze pus out of but the other one is hard and swollen and hurts, nothing comes out of it.

The doctors gave me some pain killers and a bottle of antibiotic stuff, i just want these bites to heal bc i cant walk, swim, or anything and i love walking and swimming, by the way, i live in Arkansas, does anyone know any ways to treat it?

I have been getting bitten overnight while sleeping for about 2 weeks, and don’t know what kind of creature has caused them, spider or bug. The bites, when new, have a raised yellow dome about 1mm in width, with a red wheel of about 4-5 mm surrounding them. It took 3 or 4 bites on my back and neck (one a night) before I realized something was happening, and four bites in one night down my hand and forearm before I took action, washing all of my bedding.
My cat is not scratching herself, so they’re not flea bites, but a couple of my friends think they’re spider bites. Any thoughts?

I have recently moved to Maryland and was told that the area is rampant with the Black Widow and brown recluse spiders.

I have two older cats and am worried about their health and safety. Are pets affected in the same way as humans when dealing with these NASTY spiders?

    Thanks….

I live in Minnesota and I was outside yesterday and I think I was bit by a spider…I can see two maybe three(??) puncture wounds, one looks worse than the others. It is also bigger than the other one, it looks like a little scab.

The bite is on my arm and it itches really bad! I have been trying not to itch it, but I did a few times yesterday and today. The area surrounding the “bite” is red and swollen and it kinda hurts when I touch around it. It also kinda tingles.

Other than that, not much is happening with it. I am just concerned that it could lead to something worse. I can’t go to the doctor because I have no insurance… So if anyone knows anything about spiders in Minnesota, or what the hell is could be, let me know.

You can email me if thats easier-tibbetts_05 at yahoo.com

    THANK YOU!!

Late yesterday after mowing my husband mentioned his face looked a little swollen. i didn’t think much of it. but he did seem to have a major sunburn on his face down to his stomach…but he was wearing a hat and of course clothes. this morning his face was sooo swollen and his body full of heat and still bright red.

We went to the pharmacy for benedryl for allergies. couple hours later he rubbed his outer thigh and it hurt. we realized that he had what seems to be a spider bite. it has been about 28 hours now…and 4 doses of benedryl later. his face has went down some and the redness is almost gone in his arms, but his face, neck, back, and stomach are still feverish and very red.

The bite spot is like a small cigarette burn with a hard circle surrounding it..but is looking better and not so hard now. no pus yet. his doctor couldn’t see him today, the er is way too expensive, and he’s a truck driver that has to leave out extremely early in the morning and won’t be home til friday. needless to say he can’t just take off work without the loads being late and missing a whole week of work.

If it was poisonous ( we live in sw area arkansas) wouldn’t he have more serious symtoms already?

I was working in my yard five days ago. I did not feel anything bite me but I had a place on my leg that started itching and I scratched it a bit and forgot about it until that night and when I took my jeans off I had a blister about the size of a dime. I thought it would go away by the next day but instead it got bigger. I accidentely broke it and it drained but the next day the blister came back and now about the size of a quarter. I decided to go to the emergency room since I have a knee replacement very close to this bite or whatever. The only info I got there was Boy! something really nabbed you but she did give me a antibotic since I had the knee surgery. The place is not getting any better, the blister is coming back tonight and it is really red around it.
Anyone have any idea what this might be?
    Thanks

It is hard to tell without seeing the spider bite (if it is such a bite), but seeing the dematologist can’t hurt. They would at least be able to rule out a few items. Regardless, your current doctor must be at a loss, so I would give it a shot but not leave without demanding that someone specializing in this area be recommended. Tell them you want a solution and be firm - after all, they work for you!

You would think with the techonology out there today, he could have taken a few pictures of the spider bite and emailed them to his associates!

Continued from #107. My husband woke up for work to still have the same symptoms…red, swollen just not quite as bad. we pretty well forced our way into the doctor’s office by showing up and showing how bad the bite was getting (a lot cheaper than the er they wanted us to go to the day before). The doctor says you will not feel a brown recluse bite because it injects the venom and you may not have symptoms for even 24 hrs. (versus a black widow which you will feel immediately).

The symptoms my husband is having are probably more to do with the bacterial infection. There is nothing they can do with the bite, but they can try to treat the infection with antibiotics. The doctor says within a few days it will begin to pus and should have a white head.

    DO NOT pop it!

The white head is what they need to run tests to find out what kind of spider and what kind of infection to treat. My husband’s leg hurts really bad, “feels like it is on fire”, and the bite area is turning grayish-green I guess from the tissue dying.

3 days after the bite and it is starting to ooze so we will be going back to the doctor soon.

GO TO THE DOCTOR IF BITTEN AND LOOKS BLACK-YOU WILL NEED TO FIGHT THE BACTERIAL INFECTION!

Hi - I have Lupus and Fibromyalgia and am susceptible to infection.

I have developed a red welt on the back of my thigh about the size of a dollar coin. It is a little tender on the surface, but not really anything else. There is a little hole there, so I think I was bitten. I am currently uninsured and because of my illnesses am very scared of this possible infection.

I think I got a bite yesterday, its on my inner thigh, about 3 or 4 inches from my knee. Its kinda like a bruise, but its red and bluish. it itches when I touch it, and its a little bit larger than quarter size. I dont feel sick or anything, its just a wierd feel when I touch it!

Just got bit on the side of my index finger while cleaning by a brown spider about the size of my palm from leg-tip to leg-tip. Pretty painful, I shrieked, and the damn thing ran away - my partner’s hunting it down right now. It’s itchy, and an itty-bitty raised white bump in the middle of a pink spot - should I be worried, or forget about it?

It all started a couple of days ago and I saw a red bump on my leg and it looked like a little flea bite. But then it began to swell a day later and now its a big, purple bump on my leg with red spreading around it.

If you look very closely you can see two dots in the middle. What kind of spider do you think it is?

The exterminator told my friend today that it sounded like I may have encountered the bite of a yellowsadc spider. Supposedly, the skin keeps flaking off and it stays red and scaly.

The yellow sac spider which is called Cheiracanthium inclusum and also Chiracanthium mildei, is more commonly known as the black footed spider.

The yellow sac spider is not of the family Clubionidae and so is not considered a true sac spider. It is a long-legged spider and is one of a handful of spiders in North America whose bites are dangerous enough to warrant medical attention ASAP.

This small pale yellow spider likes to hide in flat silk tubes during the day and at night, begins the hunt for prey. You’ll likely find the yellow spider living in homes and can usually be found on your walls!

I live in Seattle, Washington. I didn’t feel the bite but itched the area and a small amount of skin came off. There was nothing notable about the area. The next day there was a raised red one inch circle. Within the circle I can see the two fang marks. For three weeks the itching was severe. The circle has scabbed as has the fang bite. I had no other symtoms so I haven’t gone to the doctor.

I’ve looked for pictures on the internet but found none like mine. I took a photo of it. Any ideas on what kind of spider may have bitten me? Thanks

I just recently moved into a new home, and its aparent there are spiders everywhere. I see little ones, skinny ones, fat hairy spiders around the house. My three year old daughter is a target for them. She has woken up the past couple nights with bites on her. Just her too. Well, one of the bites is causing a little concern. Its placed on the inside part of her forearm. It is a single bite, like a large pin hole, surrounded by a dark almost bruised colored area. It doesnt seem to bother her too much, but isnt the most pleasant looking thing. If I could get some kind of info on where it came from that would be fantastic. THANK YOU!!!

My son had a bite like that in his knee. It got really big and looked horrible. Our doctor told us to use some bentonite clay (we got it at the health food store) and apply it to the bite so it could draw out the poison/pus (that we couldn’t even tell was there). It only took one application and the next morning it was gone!

He has another bite on the arm and that one is taking longer to clear up, but it’s also from a different spider I think, since it looks a lot different than the first one.
    Hope this helps.

Non-swelling Calcium bentonite (bentonite clay) is sold within the alternative health market for its purported cleansing properties, yet no scientific studies exist to support these claims. It is said that the microscopic structure of the bentonite draws impurities into it from the digestive system, which are then excreted along with the bentonite.

Pascalite is another commercial name for the calcium bentonite clay.

    Okay!
I have a spider bite in the worst place possible not my head, toes, limbs, tummy, no no, back, bottom, thighs nope I think you can guess exactly where it is.. I’m a woman btw. I’ve had this bite for 3 days. It’s been swollen since day one. It didn’t hurt till today when it began to hurt only in the spot where the spider directly bit me where it’s bite marks are.

It doesn’t itch too much at all only hurts where it bit me not arround it, it is swollen, hard under swollen mass, with no change in color. And the day after I had been bitten I saw a spider in my room and killed it. It wasn’t too big or too small, it was a common spider is what I think, it was also brown. Anyone have an idea what it was? Or if I should be worried? When the swelling will go down? If it helps I live in the midwest and it has been raining outside like crazy probably pushing these spiders into my home. I’ve been keeping the bite clean and following what I’ve read on sites about common bites. Please tell me what you think.

I’m assuming I’ve been bitten by a spider. I’m sure its not ringworm because theres tiny little fang marks on the bruide. I would like to find out what it is and whether its serious or not. I live in Northwest of Oregon. My bite first appeared about 3 years ago, on the back of my left leg behind the knee. It took about 5 days to develop It had the dark center and slightly swollen, I went to the doctor was told to put hydrocortisone cream on it. It stayed around for around 3 months.

Every year since then around the summer time it returns in the same place behind the left knee. This year it is concerning me more, I went to the doctor who told me to get more hydrocortisone cream which seemed to make it worse. It became very puffy with a larger darker center. I stopped applying the cream, then it started to scab in the center. In the past 3 days there has become a small sore about the size of a pencil eraser top in the center. The bite itself is about the size of a quarter. I also woke up sick last night, have had a slight fever, chills, and headaches. I’m hoping I’m just a little sick, and is just coincidence.
It has never been this bad before, I am also having troubles finding anything about bites that return like this. Any ideas? Should I go back to the doctor?

There’s a small red bump, kind of looks like a mosquito bite, and then it’s surrounded by a circle of red and looks a bit like a target. I live in Shelton, WA and have just recently began gardening as a stress reliever. Last night around 7pm I was weeding my garden when I noticed what looked like a fresh bite of some kind on my forearm. It could be mosquito, spider or I don’t know what. There was a tiny bit of blood at the site and I just wiped it away.

A little while later I looked and it was slightly swollen with a redness about the size of a penny. Later on about midnight I glanced at it and saw a bit of a red line about an inch long going up my arm. I dismissed this as a possible scratch or something. This morning I have awaken to the same redness but about 4 inches long and in a squiggly fasion appearing to be along a vein maybe? It does not itch or irritate me and the line is faint, but it is there.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

I have four bites on my leg. I am a cancer patient (multiple myeloma) and get chemo once each week, which includes antinausea, cortisone, and saline, and Velcade. I am assuming that the cortisone has kept the bites from itching. They are red and round, rather small.

I had a very bad headache, temp up four degrees, very bad ache in my neck and shoulders, really felt bad all over. Did not notice the bites until last night. I had someone come look at them and with a light and magnifying glass, the answer was looks like a spider bite. Today, while cleaning the bathroom, I noticed the spider.

It had long greenish like legs (like a grandaddy long legs), but the body was different. I slept very little last night. I put Neosporin on them and they look better today. Took Ex Strength Tylenol and temp is about normal today.

    Thanks for any help.

Shannon, I just read your question about what appears to be a reocurrant spider bite. I am not a doctor, and pretty much know nothing about spider bites, but I was just doing some research online for my own bite, and saw an article the says wounds from a brown recluse spider bite can often reoccur, often at the same time each year. This sounds very similar to what you are describing.

I read that Brown Recluse bite wounds can return even after it the bite may seem to have healed. It is believed that this happens in area that are bruised, scratched or damaged in some way; such flare-ups can be caused by venom that still remains underneath the skin.

Sounds like you need to get to a doctor. Again. Maybe try a new doctor (?)

    Good luck!

I am so desperate for an answer. I just want to know what is biting me, and how to kill it! If you recognize my symptoms, please respond! I would be eternally grateful. I will go to a doctor on Monday, I hope.

I have some kind of bites a year ago that were diagnosed by my dermatologist with a resulting biopsy as “arachnoid
bites”-(not specific as to type). I had picked on them, and had had a staph infection during the bites, and had open lesions all over my body .It was horrible! The Doctor was sure that they were “bird mites.” I used the Permethrin he prescribed to get them off my skin, the bites SEEMED to go away, and after calling the Bug Man all was well for a while.

Permethrin is a common synthetic chemical, widely used as an insecticide and acaricide and as an insect repellent. It belongs to the family of synthetic chemicals called pyrethroids and functions as a neurotoxin, affecting neuron membranes by prolonging sodium channel activation. Permethrin is extremely toxic to fish. Extreme care must be taken when using products containing permethrin near water courses. Permethrin is also highly toxic to cats.

Permethrin kills ticks on contact with treated clothing. According to the Connecticut Department of Public Health, it “has low mammalian toxicity, is poorly absorbed through the skin and is rapidly inactivated by the body. Skin reactions have been uncommon.”

Well, woe is me because, and even though we are exterminating ourselves, because of budget, and I am getting fewer NEW bites, I am still itching from the ones I had already gotten-and that is a LOT-and they are not going away. They just stay.

Also, now I am not sure about the “bird mite diagnosis”, because I do not have the big lesions because I don’t have staph or huge sores.

Inflamed, yes. Lesions-no! Still, it’s just awful, if not only for the contention it causes in the household. I am seeing the tiny black specks everywhere again that no one in the house notices but me! They are as tiny as a pencil point mark, so I do mean tiny!

You can notice them in numbers, and in water, etc. My husband refuses to see them, and says he has not been bitten, but I know that he has .(I can see them)I think that he is away from the house all day, so he is not bitten as much; and he works as a mechanic, so he has lots of scratches to distract him. Also, he does not WANT to have been bitten or have my symptoms.

My symptoms are itching, especially at first. The bite that I feel usually looks like a red pin point, and I do believe I used to notice a target around them, but that was back when I had a Staph infection, around the same time I first got bitten. They also come in the form of papules. Why would they be in 2 such different forms or appearances? Is not a bite a bite?

So last time I thought they were blackheads or pimples and did all the wrong things. I tried HARD to pop them-always have in the past with success which is a bad idea! They grew and grew into horrible lesions. This time I know better than to cause infection.

Back to these bites, and what is coming off of me now, which is really weird! (I am looking as closely as I can). When you use the medicine Permethrin, I guess the bugs n bites are supposed to just disappear after you take a bath. Well, I guess I have a worse condition than that.

Some of the little buggers do not want to come out by themselves, so I have to help them alone with tweezers. I feel soooooo guilty “picking” on my skin! And the process takes incredible time in the bathroom. I have found out that if for some reason it bleeds, the blood makes MORE “bites” INSTANTLY…more “pin pricks” where ever the blood touches. That is strange, isn’t it?

Many of the bites are at skin surface, and do not bleed at all, but I guess the ones that have been there longer are more dug in. And human error in helping get them out. I wish I didn’t have to! The size at this point ranges from tiny needle prick to scarlet colored blood blister looking things.

As to the papules, there are tons around my mouth, and then all over body. Other heavy patches that are just thicker/higher skin in a few places. I have to open the skin a bit for the Permethrin to work at all, and what is in there looks like eggs??? or something jellyish, and I am beginning to be sure that they are reproducing (yuk!) on my person ME.
The Permethrin just doesn’t have time to penetrate that deep.

I have been putting some of this stuff on some clear sticky tape, and then was told that if you take a sample to your doctor you are immediately suspect as crazy, but these are great samples, I think.

I get: red/dark looking spots, newer red looking ones with a clear coating around it and a hair on each end or is one a root? ( I don’t have a microscope)…and there are always broken hairs present., I don’t know if that is just always there. Sometimes there are clearish, mean looking ones/creaturish looking that are not ready for light?

Certain places on my body such as my neck, especially, have been red for a YEAR now. Could they have been embedded all of that time? Reproducing on me and biting ME???

I know we have tiny spiders in the house, but I don’t know what kind they are and have no idea how to identify them or are they bird mites? Chiggers is what looked like this when we were little, but not the rest of it.

Anyone- help! Is this even possible?

    Hello Caz,

You seem to have a classic case of bed bugs. I guess bed bugs aren’t so classic and that’s why poeple don’t know what to point to. But yeah you have bed bugs. Look for about 3 bites in a row. You now have so many bites that you most likely can’t tell there’s a pattern of the bites but there are. Usually people are in very heavy denial of this. Including Dr’s and other specialists.

What’s happening is that bugs are most likely in your box spring and you can NOT see them. You could look along the wall and you might find some dead ones under the carpeting.

These bugs are coming up to feed on you each night. They suck blood while you are sleeping, and then go back into hiding. Spiders or other mites do not have these characteristics. This is why you are waking up with new bites.

Remember that the bugs are not crawling up bed posts or such, they are most likely within 2 feet of you and inside the box spring is their favorite place.

Goto Wal-Mart, get a zippered mattress cover for both the mattress and the box spring. This will seal in the bed bugs. Unfortunately, you will need to get a new bed frame. Around $35. Just a solid frame. The old one will need to go in storage for at least a year.

Assemble the frame, put sticky tape around the legs just incase. Place the matress and boxsping on the new frame (zippered up) and then wash all your bed sheets. Dry on hot for an extra amount of time and visually examine your sheets.

The most important part is isolation of the bed and getting rid of your old bed frame. Do not skip on these parts. Also make sure you have sticky tape (i like sticky fly tape) around the legs of the bed frame.

Sleep like this for a year. Do not let clothing or other things that have been on the floor on the bed. The bed will be isolated from anything else. Also, do NOT put your bad against the wall. Bed bugs that are living in the floor will go up the wall looking for you. They will also go up nearby bed posts thinking it’s the bed. They will eventually die off.

I’m pretty sure I was bitten by a spider… I didn’t feel it bite me, but it started to itch, has been on my stomach for a week, and hasn’t gotten any better. It’s round and about the size of a half-dollar coin, red, blotchy and has 2 bite marks (maybe from fangs??). It isn’t blistering, not pus-ing, but it IS red, raised… and it feels and looks wrinkled, and it does not stop itching with even Rx strength anti-itch medicine (I tried OTC anti-itch meds first, to no avail).

I live in southern Wisconsin, near Lake Michigan… if that helps at all! Thanks a lot.

sounds like a brown recluse bite. The bite has a bullseye appearance. I would go to the dr so they can give you the best first aid that you can receive.

I was bitten by an insect 2 weeks ago on the lower part of my right leg. The sympotms are very similar to that of a spider.I did not feel anything when i was bitten but i had a trange puncture, red with a small area purple all around it. For a week i was completely ok. Exactly after 1 week the area has become all reddish, very itchy and painful. After a couple of hours a blister big as a clementine was covering all the initial red area.
The Doctor broke the blister but by the time that i reched my house, the blister had growned bigger than before and my ankle and my foot were completely swallen.
By the third day i could not walk i could not walk and my leg felt like a piece a wood. I ve been to hospital and since then is going better and better. I had to take 4 antibiotics, 8 pennycilin, 4 anti-inflammatory and painkillers per day. I m still recovering cause the wound from the blister is pretty serious.
I m very curious to know if it is been a spider and from which species came from.
    Thanks a lot

    hi
I run a campground in Southwest Missouri. I was sitting on a log 3 days ago fishing. I felt like something had bitten my leg right on my calve. I didn’t think much about it. But now it is dark red about the size of a dime and has a lighter red circle around it the size of a tennis ball. It doesn’t itch but is very tender to the touch and hard.
Any idea if it might be a spider bite?

I was bit by a spider and my symptoms are not that of the brwon recluse. I got the bite while sleeping. It itched for the about the first 3 days and then is started to hurt and felt like a bruise, then after two more days I noticed heat and inflamation in about a 3″ radius around the bite.

The radius kept spreading there is now a hand print size of area around the bite that is red and a little inflamed. This has been almost 9 days. The brown reclue bite itsself is starting to come to a head/boil formation. I haven’t had a fever or any vomiting or fatigue. I would like to know if anyone has an idea of what type of side might have biten me. I live in middle Tennessee.

    Thank you.

Not sure if I got a spider bite or not. I have a great big round red circle on my left breast and it looks like there is two small holes. I went to the doctor and he gave me two shots and put me on antibiatics. The redness is still not gone. The pain of it is. This worries me. Can you let me know what you think it is.

My 3 year old daughter and myself and my husband have been getting small bites in different places all over our body. There is no pattern, but they itch like crazy for along time and that’s all. My daughter sleeps in a different bed than us but my husband and daughter get more bites than me, especially around the groin area. But yesterday, my daughter got 4 more bites on her back and armpits. Our 8 month old son, who rolls around the carpets all the time has no bites at all, so I don’t think they’re anything the dog is bringing in, and we really think they’re spider bites from the beds, but I’ve washed the sheets a bunch. Please let me know if anyone has any ideas as to what they are and how we can get rid of them. Thank you.

I recently went camping and the day we were leaving I had an itch on my lower abdominal side, I went to scratch it but it was very soar so I took a look and noticed a huge striated bruise with a circle that was a bit yellowish. within the circle there are two bumps that are itchy. I have had a headache and abdominal pain ever since. I also have red bumps on my stomach, but that happened days before we left for camping. The bruise is red and purple. I live in Illinois.
Please advise if you know what kind of spider bit me.

I’m hoping that someone could help identify this spider bite or offer advice for how to treat it now. When I was 11 (I am 25 now), I was bit by a spider (I think) on my ankle twice and once on my toe. The bites were thin slashes about 0.5-1 cm long (I still have small scars) and I did not feel the bites or see the spider.

My foot, and then my leg up to above the knee, slowly swelled over about a week. My leg did not hurt, but it did go numb and tingly. When I finally went to the doctor, he gave me something (antivenom?) that made the swelling go down. Unfortunately, my foot is permanently swollen (the swelling increases with alot of standing) and is much larger than the other foot.

Other than elevating my foot (which only reduces the swelling to a certain point) is there any way to get my foot back to normal size?

Also, this spider bite happened in central Iowa.

    Thank you,
    Dee

MIKE, Thank you very much for the time you took in writing to me about BED bugs. What tipped you off? I am just wondering what helped you make that diagnosis. Obviously you all have been hanging around spidertypes much longer than I!

I will check all of the information you sent out, believe me! But ugh,it does sound like a lot (more) work…probably worth it if it will stop this endless sequence of bites and itching, and fear that I will spread whatever I have on me!
How does one acquire bedbugs in the first place,I wonder. Hmmmm.(!?)

I found that there seemed to be quite a few(of whatever they are) gathered in the open area (that i thought was solid) in the square support of the pedestal sink in my bathroom; but that could be because it has not been cleaned for as many years as it has been there, probably.

I went to the dermatologist today, finally, a WEEK after using Permethrin and spraying house and cleaning ad nauseum.
HE did NOT see bites( because most of them are gone, now?) He did see evidence of a new staph infection, though,so I am glad that I went. The Permethrin got close to my mouth when I was applying, and really went for what the derm referred to as enlarged oil papules? They have decreased substantially all over my face with this med!(good)

But,he did not even want to entertain the idea of “bugs” so I could not bring myself to ask him about the possibility of them reproducing on me. He did notice the enlarged (and new) big bumps on my neck, and said that they must be an allergic reaction to something.like the sun. argh.

I find this very hard to discuss with a doctor! They do not want to speak of creatures that they cannot see right there, right then. They do not get out a magnifier of any type. My Dr stood 2 or 3 feet away from me at all times!
He must have great eyesight. He said the pinprickes were capillaries(?)I’ve never seen one like that!I have never had them before like this- or seen any that look like this, and he did not explain to me why I have them NOW!

Well, I will look into bedbugs, get rid of the staph, and try to pretend that they are capillaries?!

They did prescribe Atarax for itching, and antihistamine, I think, and a

Ok, here is the deal, I know I was bitten by a spider, I live in VA, and I was gardening, and no I did not feel the bite. I do know that is was not a Black Widow, nor a Brown Recluse, but here are my symptoms: it is a perfect round dot, it is small, and when it gets wet in cold water it burns and turns white like I have just been bitten all over again. The skin around it is irritated, and a little swollen, right now it looks more like a round scab. I was bitten a few days ago and just now my hand hurts, before it was just like any other spider bite, but now my hand hurts. If anyone could help that would be great. I live in the country and in an old house, but I do know I was bitten in the garden.
    Thanks so much

Brooke- It sounds very similiar to my sons bite.

He was bit on his forhead. a flat red spot appeared the first day and then was more red that evening.
The next day I saw a pin hole mark and a small scrap mark line in the red spot. By the next day his forhead was swollen around the spot in the size of a golf ball all the way down to the middle of his nose. When I took him to the doctor she put him on an antibiotic and benadryl.

I started him on these, By the next day his swelling went to his eyes. He woke up with his eyes more than half shut. I had some antibiotic drops I put in right away, it started to go down, called the doctor who said if redness appears and he has a temp. 103 or over go to emergency. This just happened, so far so good, still waiting to see what tommorrow will bring.

Oh alot o his swelling did go down but not all yet. So I hope this helped, if your hand is swelling up you may be having an allergic reaction or could be starting to work its way into an infection. Don’t wait to find out!

Hi - We have been in our house 3 years now with no problems and barely a spider sighting, but this morning I woke up with 9 small pale red itchy spots on my abdomen and leg.

It has been about 15 hours and they are now more inflamed, bright red with pus, whitish center and a small hole in the middle of each one, there is pale red inflammation about 1/2 inch around each one and they itch. They are not painful. My husband looks to have 4 that are similar - but a bit more spread out.

We found no spiders in our bed or around on the floor.

Can anyone please tell me how to care for these bites. Are they indeed spider bites? Anything else I should look out for or do to prevent them from getting us or our kids again?

    Thanks!

I was outside today trying to get a tan in my front lawn when i started feeling like some kind of red ant was biting me. I looked around and didn’t see anything. I layed back down and it started to hurt again, only this time on my neck. I got up and looked and it happened to be an albino looking spider. I’m not sure if I should be worried, because this bite doesn’t really fit the description of anything I find online but hey better safe than sorry. Heres the story. I was helping my dad pick this TV up. Then I went outside to open the tailgate of his truck. And I walk back inside.

Soon as I touch the door knob I feel this pain like I got pinched or stung by a bee. I felt nothing at all on my hand, besides the doorknob. And I didn’t see any spider at all. But now, there is a small purple spot on the palm of my hand that looks like a bruise. I don’t see any bite marks either. It doesn’t hurt or itch. I don’t even feel it unless I put pressure on the area, but I don’t see how it could possibly be just a bruise.

At first, you’d have to kind of look closely at it to see the mark, but now it’s become a bit darker and you can easily see it, though it has not gotten bigger or swolen up. This happened today incase you’re wondering. Doesn’t seem like a really big deal but hey I don’t want it to turn into one.

Just wanted to let you know what happened to my husband recently. His job is HVAC and he was working on an A/C unit. He felt a small pin prick on his side under his arm. He noticed a few wood shavings, so he thought it was just a splinter. About 24 hours later he was starting to feel bad (not like him at all) and had a red spot about the size of a half dollar.

He went to the Dr. about 48 hours after the spider bite and received medicine and ibuprofen. 2 days later he still felt bad, and ended up going to the hospital in the middle of the night. He had a bad brown recluse bite. The redness around the bite was about the size of a small frying pan.

One week after the bite, he had a small heart attack. He had to have a catheritization to check his heart for blockages and damage. (no damage or blockage was found.) We found out he had an allergic reaction to the ibuprofen, and the venom didn’t help. it has been about a month since he got out of the hospital, and the wound is almost healed up, but he will always have a scar.

Please don’t hesitate to seek medical attention if you get bit. It doesn’t seem all that bad, but it can quickly change for the worse.

Looking for responses from anyone in Northern California, Sacramento area. I was half- awakened by a stinging sensation on my finger, went back to sleep. About a day later I found what looked like a little whitehead ingrown hair on that spot. Itched a little, didn’t think much of it.

One more day goes by and now my finger is bright red, oozing pus, swollen so I can’t bend it, and hurting so bad I’m hopping around cursing. Every time I expressed it the wound scabbed and then came back bigger. I tried antihistamines, hydrocortisone, nothing worked at all until I finally took some keflex.

When my daughter saw my finger she said she had a bump on her butt that hurt really bad. By the time we got to the doctor 2 days later, hers was oozing pus, dark blood, and red hot and swollen to the diameter of a pancake. Keflex cured us both but we had a scary and painful time of it. All the doctor could tell was that it was venemous spider bites. They never got black like a recluse bite but were the oozing, scabbing, constantly enlarging, red “volcano” wounds.

    What did this????

  84. Madison
    #184. June 28th, 2007 at 4:51 am

    Concerning the spider bites…

The one thing I am aware of from our clinical studies with venemous insects, vectors, and snakes, is that if a bite, no matter what the source (mosquito, tick, etc) starts to get a red ring that begins to extend (grow larger), watch it more carefully. This means that eirher 1) infection is spreading through new tissue, or 2) venom is spreading through new tissue. Spider bites are usually noted by a pus-postule on top (your body’s white blood cells trying to fight the saliva or venom in the wound), then a red ring.

When to worry (and seek emergency medical attention): the ring has a black line ascending or descening line in the direction of blood flow (toward your heart). This means the venom has reached an artery and is in the circulation.

Necrosing (death) of tissue is also a warning sign. Tick bites that ulcerate and blacken with dead tissue are warning signs of tularemia, rocky mountain, and lyme. I assume ulceration of tisse is somewhat normal in a spider bite, but intense necrosis is cause for concern, especially due to the southern state’s abundance of brown recluse’.

This is no medical advice, of course, just a little input of what I have learned!!

I live in San Mateo, California. I have at least four spider bites. One above my ankle, and three on my back (if you connect the dots, they make a right-triangle!) The one on my leg went away, but it feels like a bruise is there now. I’ve had the ones on my back for over a week, and they just itch like crazy. They only appear as a red swollen bump. A couple weeks before these bites, my mom smashed a big juicy-looking brown spider.. I’m guessing there’s another similar one that bit me?

I just wanted to reach out to the people in Northern Cal and share my recent experience.

About 2 months ago, spiders started coming into the house, at least 25 to 30/ night. They are dark bodies, upper and lower, with dark reddish legs. At the same time, my cats and I were being attacked by some sort of noseeum, and to this day we don’t know what that was about.

The whole ordeal was just terrible and painful. The spiders started biting me and getting into my bed at night. I would have dreams telling me to wake up because I was getting bitten, and sure enough, it was happening. Once I woke up to find one sleeping as closely to me as it could, by my side..for warmth?

I couldn’t find an exact match, so I caught a few and took them into the ag department for ID. They didn’t know so they sent it to Sacramento for ID. Six weeks and many necrotic bites later, I got the results. They were from the gnaphosa species (to the best of their knowledge), and they are from DENMARK!!!

This global trade thing just needs to stop! They are not as dangerous as yellow sac spiders, nor the other big three, but they do produce necrosis and I do have scars. Thank God they began to stay outside. I only find a few here and there now, without doing anything.

I also have yellow sac spiders here, and possibly hobo spiders, according to the ag department. They haven’t proven it yet, but they figure that they are here in Northern Cal, even though some of the experts deny it. All these spiders are from other countries……UGH!

So, some of you may be being bitten by these same spiders in Northern Calafornia. They are ground spiders and are lousy climbers. They are slow and fall from the ceilings should they get that high.

When in the house, they were all over the carpet. After they left, we were still bitten heavily by the no seeums, but that has also deminished within the past few weeks. I have no idea what is going on, and have never been through anything like this before in my life, and I am not a youngster.

In some ways, the bites from the invisible creatures were the worst. They felt like a microscopic cutting of the skin. The cats were in total hell.

The best news though that I can offer, is that the necrosis was helped greatly by using green clay. I used an organic facial mask by Aubrey Organics, and also just powdered benonite clay from Whole Foods with water. Both worked really well at keeping the swelling down, keeping infection at bay. Clay is amazing.

    Be well.

    Hi Caz,
I would suggest looking into whether or not you have Scabies. They are tiny mites that burrow into your skin.
    Best of luck!

    HELP PLEASE!

Wednesday my husband began to feel very ill. He had aching muscles and weakness all over his body. He ran a low-grade fever around 100 degrees. Thursday he went to the doctor, but did not receive a diagnosis. They gave him antibiotics and a pain medication and assumed it was some sort of bacterial infection.

Friday, his symptoms persisted despite antibiotics and he mentioned to me that he had a weird bump on his hip. Today, the bump looked larger and more red, and when I looked closely it appeared there were two tiny specks (fang marks?) in the center of the red spot.

My husbands muscles continue to ache and his weakness is to the point where he cannot grasp a glass or walk up the stairs.

    Spider Bite Picture

Could this picture, taken on 6/30/2007, be a spider bite? We have seen black widows around the house this year, maybe it is because of the drought. We killed one just last weekend.

Hi, I live in central Texas and just recently I noticed two or three bites on the bottom and top of my foot that seem to be spider bites. The one on the bottom of my foot, sort of near the side has developed into what looks like a big blister or pustule, about the size of an unsharpened pencil, I’d say.

I don’t see any bite marks on it anywhere, though and it doesn’t hurt. It itched pretty terribly earlier today and while I was scratching a much tinier blisterlike bite on the top of my foot, I most have broken the “blister” because it’s led to tons of pain.

Could this be a brown recluse? That’s my major concern. I was bitten at least two days ago, I think.

Last year, I woke up to find a red mark on the edge of my eyebrow, which as the days progressed caused my left eye lid to droop. I looked like I had had a stroke, which lasted about 2 weeks.

To this day, I have 3 marks near my hairline where the color (melanin?) is no longer on my skin, in otherwords, my skin is white and the end of my eyebrow is now hairless with again another white scar. I went to my PCP, who had no idea what it was.

Does anyone have a clue? I assume it might have been a spider bite.

I woke up this morning and my leg was a bit sore. It hurts when I walk. I noticed three areas on my shin where my leg is somewhat red. I was trying to think of something I could have done to my leg. They look like red welts.

When I touch them they really hurt. Then my husband tells me later on in the day that he woke up in the middle of the night and felt something crawling on him so he knocked it off.. But he doesn’t remember what it looked like. I am now thinking that maybe it was on me too and bit me and that these may be bites on my leg.

I have seen spiders around the house before. I am not sure what kind or whether I should worry about it?? Any suggestions??? Should I just make sure that the symptoms don’t get worse??

I recently noticed pain on the outside part of the arch of my foot. I thought maybe i had strained something, but when i felt it, i noticed there was a bump. My husband looked at it and said that it is about the size of pea and has a black center. He said it resembled a black head. He tried to remove it and the pain was horrible!!! Not sure what bit me, if you have any ideas, please help!!!

My wife woke up with a shout around 3:00 this morning saying she’d been bit by something. We looked at that time and only saw a little tiny pin-prick of red on her arm (the underside of her bicep). Around 9:00am, she showed me the area again and there are two distinct spots on her arm, both with the same appearance: a blood-red spot about a 1/2 centimeter across, surrounded by a purple halo, about an inch to an inch and a half across.

We live in central NY and though there are spiders in the house, we rarely see them in the living spaces (they are mainly visible in the basement). We searched the bed thoroughly at the time of the bite and again later this morning, but we saw nothing in the way of insects.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

I live in Maryland. I woke up Saturday morning and noticed a lump with white little spots in the center and is surrounded by a large red swollen area. The center sort of resembles poison blistering. I went to a doctor that I normally don’t see and he put me on antibiotics and told me to put ice on it. The appearance hasn’t changed any at all. He did not recognize the bite so hopefully someone will be able to determine what type of bite this is. If anyone has any knowledge as what this could be from, please let me know. Thanks!

Im visiting The washington DC/ Georgetown area. I may have been bit by a spider in my sleep. Didnt see it but fealt something and started scratching in my sleep early morning, Woke up with a small dot on th einside crease of my arm by th eelbow. since yesterday it has swollen slightly, the “bite” area got hard and turned dark. The actual “bite” is about the size of pea I guess, maybe slightly bigger. Its raised, looks like it might be bruised, it hurts a lot obviously and itches. Around the outside of the “bite” my skin is white, around the size of a quarter, then all round that it looks like arash. Ive been using benadrill cream but it doesnt work that good. It itches and burns & I try not to touch it but if I do it hurts. Anyone have any clue??

I live in Nj so of course there isnt any really dangerous spiders. I got a spider bite (at least i think) and it basically looks like a scrape that is brown an every time I touch it it hurts. The first time I noticed it was when i had an itch on my foot. Then it came to look like to little red dots.

I was wondering if this is a spider bite and what kind? I live in Knoxville, TN and work outside everyday.

    Spider Bite on Leg

It was a lot bigger yesterday but the size went down before I could take a picture.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

I have a small ring of bumps surrounding very small fang marks. Where the fang marks are the skin is very dry. The bite isn’t red or irritated, but it’s been here for a few weeks now and I’m starting to get a little freaked.
