My brother was bit on right arm it has an entry point and small blisters surround it. The skin is red and raised. He is now getting hives or blister on face, nose any one know what kind of spider could do this?
I would say at least 3 weeks ago I was cleaning out my basement and while dragging bags of garbage out of the basement I walked thru a cobweb/spiderweb and unfortunately I was wearing shorts. This is when I would say that the spider got on my body. I don’t know for certain how long it took for me to notice the mark on my leg, I would guess a few hours to a couple of days.
I don’t remember when I first noticed the mark, it has been at least three weeks. I also didn’t feel anything, at all, upon being bit. Within one week of noticing, the mark it grew. It was approx. one centimeter higher than the surface of the skin around it that was unaffected and it was approx. a quarter/25 cent coin in diameter, or approx. one inch.
The pain was excrutiating! It made moving, walking especially, very difficult. Within this last hour I was in the bathroom and I noticed some bruising and bleeding on the mark. I also noticed two small, but pronounced, bit marks/holes directly on top of the mark.
I’ll send a picture if I can get this webcam to work. Please tell me with the information that I have given you so far what am I up against?
About a month ago, I was visiting my father in NC. I looked down at my ankle, because it felt strange, and I saw what looked like a mosquito bite, which had swelled about the size of a golf ball, right on the front of my ankle. It was sore, itchy, firm, and warm. I applied an allergy cream, took some Benadryl, and applied a cool cloth. The swelling went down, but it didn’t go away for over a week. The bite mark remained for about three weeks.
His house has many orb weaver spiders outside, and some had been in the house. My father would check the house each night for them, and if he found one inside, he would take it outside. The bite was aligned with the inside of my pants leg, so I thought that it must have gotten trapped between my skin and the fabric.
About two weeks after I returned home to MD, I awoke to find a large swelling around the end of my left ankle on gastrocnemius muscle and Achilles tendon. It appeared to have three bite marks (what looked much like mosquito bites), and the swelling was sore, itchy, firm, and warm; as was the previous bite. I assumed that a spider crawled into my bed (My bedspread does sometimes touch the floor.), became lost, and bit me. I treated it as I had the previous one and didn’t think much more of it. That was a little less than a week ago. The swelling has almost gone away, but the bites are still there and still itchy.
The day after this occurred, I awoke from a nap with another bite just about my elbow on the left side. Again, it swelled about the size of an egg, became red and firm, was itchy and warm. At this point, I became very anxious, because I was afraid I had gotten an egg from my father’s home on my suitcase, and it had hatched in my bedroom. I have heard that pesticides are unsuccessful with spiders, and I worry for the health of my pets when using them, so I looked online for natural remedies. After seeing it recommended on several sites, I placed cotton balls with cinnamon or peppermint oil around my house, because it was said that they would drive off spiders from the smell. After about 24-48 hours, the swelling went down, but the bite mark is still visible now.
I stayed at my mother’s apartment for a few days. We live in an older house that has been changed into two apartments. I live on the top floor, and my mother lives on the ground floor. Yesterday, I was preparing to go back to my home to sleep. Early in the evening, I fell asleep in a recliner in my mother’s living room. When I awoke, my arm felt bad, so I checked it out. On my left forearm, just about my wrist, was another bite, just like the others. Unlike the others, this made me feel disoriented, dizzy, and nauseated. The swelling was over my entire forearm to the elbow and down into my hand. My carpal tunnel nerve tingled as well. My mother put moist tobacco on it to draw out venom, and by morning, the swelling had gone down greatly. It is still swollen, about the size of a fifty cent piece, and it is achy and warm. It itches as well, but it hurts to scratch it. None of the bite marks look more than mosquito or flea bites, but the side effects seem to be great.
What kind of spider is biting me? Why is it biting me, no matter which house I’m in? Why has no one else been bitten? What should I do?
Thank you in advance for your time. God bless you. I hope to hear from some of you with answers soon.
I just saw a bite on my upper outer thigh this evening. I’m sure I got it sometime late last night as I was sitting outside on the ground in shorts with friends. I didn’t feel any pain, so I didn’t know about it til today when I felt the two scabs on my thigh. It doesn’t itch, but it hurts to the touch. It’s two small holes side by side, as if a set of fangs punctured my skin, maybe not even a centimeter apart. It is slightly raised and the skin around it is red. But it doesn’t hurt or itch which is why I’m not sure what it is. Normally I am very allergic to spider bites and swell dramatically, but this one is different. Any idea on what it was that could have bit me and left a two-pronged puncture?
i got bit three times by a small brown spider in my pants, the first bite is a dot a mm by a mm, surrounded half an inch in each direction by purple broken blood vessels. the other 2 are the same size dot but with non of the blood vessel business…so yeah if you have any idea what kind of spider this could have been let me know…p.s. i live in southeastern massachusetts and i think the spider was hanging around in my cellar. thanks!

This is a question about a spider bite.
The spider bite took place while I was sleeping, in my bed, at my home in NE TN. I did not see the spider, but in my sleep, I was aware of a stinging sensation. For hours afterwards, while asleep, I had periods of not feeling well, nauseated, woke up feeling my heart race, had kind of wierd, vivid dreams and was aware that my right hand/arm/wrist area was painful to move, like it was swollen. It had been late at night when I fell asleep, and I had to wake up early – I was very groggy and had a hard time waking up, but I was keenly aware that there was something wrong. In the morning, when I did wake up, I told my husband immediately that something had happened, and I felt pretty sure I’d been bitten by a spider.
My right arm/wrist area is swollen – it is painful to move my hand up or down, and the area of swelling is cold to the touch versus warm like normal swelling would be (I’m a nurse, so I find this strange). There, in the midst of the swelling, and somewhat hard to see, is a slightly raised whitish colored lump with a very light gray colored spot in the center – it’s small, not much larger than a pimple. It’s painful to touch, but not very obvious to see. I think this is my bite location. I honestly have no clue what it could be other than a spider bite. I’m trying not to worry over it, it’s uncomfortable, but not the most pain I”ve ever felt – I haven’t called the Dr. yet – anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Stacie

I live in san jose, Ca. I just recently moved and I noticed right in the middle of my back there is a group of a bunch of red bites. And they itch! What kind of spider does this and how long will it be before the bites go away?
We live in Southern Vermont. My 3 1/2 year old daughter had a red mark on her inner knee lastnight, we thought it was a tiny bump from playing outside… today I noticed two little pinpricks in the redness. It appears to be a spider bite I think. There is redness around the two little red dots, the redness seems to reach out farther on the left side of the bite, it is really strange.
She isn’t complaining of any pain, her appetite is fine, and she has been playing… I just worry.
Her doctors office is closed until tomorrow, today is Sunday…
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
i have a bite on my leg. it is fevering and hard. its about the size of a quarter. spider bite or not?
i got bitten on my stomach about a month ago and its still there as a scab no and keeps weeping and bleeding and is really sore is it possible its a spider bite
My daughter gets these bites which look like mosquito bites They are itchy and then a few days later she get what look like several pin size dark purple bruises, it forms a oblong circle around the bite, maybe a bit larger around this bite. She says the bites get really hard to the touch! She has two of these on her upper thigh and one on the side of her stomach.
Dear Stef (386) my daughter also had what appears like the same symptoms as you had a few years ago. It was found to be caused by deer ticks from a visit to a state park in Southern Indiana. It took months to clear up. It seemed to spread on the side of her stomach. She has quite a sensitivity to insect bites.
Ok I have to little red marks that are what looks like to me almost perfectly spaced out. They kinda look like little fang marks up close, It might be a little puffy I’m not sure though. I was just wondering if any body knew what they were. Thanks
I was in Orlando, Florida over the weekend and I came back home with over 4 bites on my upper body. The bite looks like a blister and one of them has a tiny black spot on the top of it. It burns and sometimes iches when my clothing touches it. The spider was small though and it hardly hurt when it happened.
My Jack Russell may have been bitten by a spider tonight. She lets out a piercing scream whenever I pick her up or even pet her. I see no lumps or bumps, but I am very scared. She acts like she has the chills. It has me scared. What should I do? Someone out there must know something about bites on pets eh? Help!
Dear Jeanie Eliason (#388)
It’s a bit late and i’m no expert but if you live in anywhere from tennesse to Florida there is a good chance it was a brown recluese. See the doctor if you haven’t already.
Dear scott (#383)
All of the spider bites I have don’t itch very much, it could be mosquitoes, if the bites are over an inch from the nearest one, its probably not a spider.
Dear Lynnette Gillespie
My dog got sick with a disease that makes some areas of its body hypersensitive, and others numb. It was fatal to ours and i’m praying that’s not what it is.Take your dog to the vet tomorrow!!!!
Yesterday I went to the doctor’s office and my spider bite was removed. It STILL hurts like crazy, though. But, I was planning on going today instead of yesterday. I’m SO GLAD I got it over with!
I live in NYS which i don’t believe has very dangerous spiders but all the same. i’m not positive i was bitten by a spider so i’m guessing since i can identify fang marks and am pretty insect inpaired and the spider is the only insect that bites that i can think of that has two fangs.
I have this puffy red spot now on my knee and it itches like the dickens. if its related i’m not sure but i’m paranoid like this so i figured i’d add it. i’ve also been feeling odd all day, before i even knew the bite was a bite. really tired and kinda out of it and just.. odd. and my joints have been hurting which could be paranoia
The spot it self is really red and kinda.. numb when i touch it.
I also have the same kind of red itchy spot on my stomach. i tried bactine but it doesn’t help. oh someone help me making the itching stop and if there are any even slightly dangerous spiders in NYS (i live upstate).
i live in ontario Canada and i have a weird bite on my left arm, i think it’s a spider bite because i have lots of spiders in my house. I’m curious what spider bit me or if it’s even a spider bite. Theres a little red bump and about 2 cm. red circle around the bump. it’s not itchy but it hurts alot, it feels a bit like a bruse but herts all around not just on the red parts. it also herts a lot when i strech my arm. Anyone know what it might be?
Cindy Cloutier,
It sounds like a blackwidow bite you should go to a doc. Visit this page on the black widow to learn more.

I have a spider bite which is now being treated with antibiotics show in the picture below:
I thought it was a mosquito bite or bee sting but the pain became to intense and I went to the doctor and he identified it as a bite. Alexandria Virginia
Update on 9/15/07:
You may have seen my spider bite above. That pic. was day 4 or 5 after I realized something was really wrong. Anyway, the bite is healing nicely and there is plenty of dead skin peeling off (the first 3 days after seeing the doctor I had to go to the doctors office and was IV’ed with antibiotics now I’m on oral antibiotics for 10 days) .
The redness has diminished around the wound. There was a guy who apparently showed up after me in the same doctors office. The doctors says the guy waited to long to come in and was taken directly to surgery to remove part of the back of his leg where the bite occurred.
I can’t believe he was able to wait. I went in without an appointment and demanded I see someone immediately because I was in so much pain. I could not sit down. Not sure where I got my bite but I hope I never get another one.
Be careful out there!
I live in Florida and I think I got bit by a spider. I didn’t feel it but I just saw that I had a small red bump that itched and hurt on my right thigh. I thought it was an ingrown hair so I tried popping it and it got worse the next day. It’s been 3 weeks now and it hasn’t gone away. It is now a purple bump with a light red/purple around the bump. I already went to the doctor who gave me antibiotic for 7 days and told me to put warm compresses every day. But that hasn’t helped. I’m going to the dermatologist in 2 days to see what he says. Does anyone know what to do?
about 3 days ago, i felt a sharp bite on my arm, the area swelled up immediately about 3 inches long and an inch and a half wide. it shrunk down to an itchy hard lump about half an inch in diameter by the following morning. today the lump is dissipating, but the area is tender nd slightly itchy and it looks like 2 bruises touching, one about 3/4 inch in diameter and the other about an inch and 1/2. the two little rough puncture marks (the bite) are in between the two bruises. i can feel the bite when i move my wrist. is this a spider bite? if so, what kind? and what treatment should i do? thanks.
I was bit by something about 2 days ago and it kind of felt like a horse fly bite. The next day it was a little dot with a black dot in the middle, which I thought it was a bee stinger so my boyfriend tried to squeeze it out, nothing came out except a little clear pus.
Now it is a little dot and it feels kind of like a boil except very, very painful. The insect bite is very little, but the top is white and all around it is red and hard when you press on it. The top is a bit indented and the day after it itched like a misquito bite.
Can please someone try and identify what it is and what I should do it would be gladly appreciated.
I have read all comments and I can’t figure out if what I’ve come in contact with is a spider or not. Most of you who have sent comments, talk about a dark black or purple pump or center, which I do not see with my bite. Right now it is dime-size, red circle around edge, puffy and blister looking. See the picture of the bite below:
Pus fills when I allow it to (since it is on my forefinger, I’m constantly washing the area). It has been 5-days since I was bitten and I’m trying to find more information on spider bite diagnosis and treatment. Any help is appreciated.
I’m not sure if this is a bite or not, but it started as a small dot above my left eye and now its swollen up a lot and its very painful to the touch and it feels really hard underneath the surface, its really red but other than that there is no discoloration. If anyone could help I’d appreciate it.
This is my bite –
it’s hard to see but it’s a red pin-sized dot with a white circle around it. My calf muscle is very sore (I’m limping) and the calf is swollen. Please provide any insights, it’s appreciated!

Have you ruled out facial shingles? Hope you are feeling better.
my 6 1/2 was bitten 3x’s by a spider, one near the eye, one on each of her forearms. They are about a size of a quarter and the one near the eye is about a dime size. she is currently under antibiotic for a sore throat, is this antibiotic being helpful during this unfortunate spider bites?
Also, my husband and I were not bitten and we were sleeping together all 3 of us.
She was bitten on sunday, and monday we notice the red spots, tonite monday late night I decided to take a look around and found 3 little spiders in a corner of the room and a bigger spider running across the carpet which i killed — after reading this site, I realize now , i should of kept them all, for proper verification.
.are house spiders dangerous too? our are there no such thing as house & outdoor spiders?
I recently found a bite on my leg, see the picture below:
A day after the bite I started to get flu-like symptoms. I don’t know when I was bitten – or by what. General achiness, joint achiness, no fever, slight nausea, slight headache. No rash, blisters, etc.
I have something in my back that looks like little red bumps, I’m not sure if it’s of a spider bite, however I’ve had some weird encounters with spiders that I’ve had to kill these past couple of weeks. Can someone please tell me if I should worry about it? it itches and it’s bothersome, no symptoms associated with poisonous spiders have ocurred yet. Thanks. Jose
i live in houston texas and was biten by something today i didn’t feel it but around 3pm i noticed a lerge red circle on my forearm about two inches round i thought nothing of it but at 7 pm i looked nd it was still there slightly swollen , no smaller, tender to the touch now, and kinda warm feeling is that a spider bite? if so what should i do?
I was bitten by something on 9/13/07 and the bite it self actually felt like a little bee sting or a horsefly. i shood it away and then it just itched like a masquito bite. The next night the spot where i was bite had a little blister like form with a black dot in the middle. Now 9/18/07 the bite has a boil like around it. It is very painful and the pain never seems to go away at all either. Its very discomforable and i limp when i walk because it on the lower region of my back on the left side. The red hardness around it has gotten bigger and the pain is unbearable, could anyone please help me figure out what the pain could have been caused from. I go to the doctors tomorrow, but i have no idea what has bit me. =(
I don’t know whether this is a spider bite, but it fits some descriptions of them. I have a large lump on my left forearm, by my elbow, about 2 inches in diameter that is itchy and hurts when touched. There is a small spot of tiny pus bubbles in the center, and one is open and oozes pus occasionally. I’ve only had it since this morning, and it swells whenever I scratch it. It’s skin-colered and there’s a small scab about the size of a BB at the edge of the lump. It’s warm to the touch. I go to school and I am lefthanded, so it’s very hard to write. Does anyone know if this is a spider bite, and if it is, if I should go to a doctor?
I was bitten by a spider night before last and immediately felt the itching and burning discomfort associated with it. I did not see the spider but it had to have happened either while I lay sleeping or when I put on a sweater my daughter retrieved from her closet (which hadn’t been worn in about a year).
I live in the Niles area which is heavily wooded, near a river and right on some railroad tracks. We have tons of Wolf spiders, tarantulas just tons of species I can’t even name. We’ve caught spiders the size of my hand in my home. I have a 12 year old, 7 year old and a 17 mo. old baby (I worry about most) cause he’s in every corner all the time.
The bite is hard and sensitive to the touch (feels bruised). The initial holes were tiny and oozy. There was a greenish hardened pus-like scab over each puncture hole and I scratched them off by accident (how I noticed) then clear and bloody fluid came out.
I squeezed it to get it out (is that bad??) Now punctures are getting bigger (slight greenish-yellow wounds) red area has enlarged to almost nickel size now. Sight is warm but no notice of pain outside the affected area. Do you think it’s necrotic? -Sp??
The picture above is of the spider bite has a penny for size ID. You will also see a picture of a (dead) spider that seems epidemic here. Ton’s of them! Don’t know if it’s the one that got me or what type. Let me know what you think.
Curious if I should call an exterminator to keep babies safe.
Thanks!
Hi Everyone. I’m Whitley. I’ve Noticed Just In The Past Few Days That There Are A Bunch Of Red Bumps On My Left Leg. They Are Small, And I Think They Look A Lot Like Pimples. But.. Over The Course Of The Day Today At School I Noticed That They Don’t Look Like PImples Anymore Just Red. And I Didn’t Know What To Think.. Until I Got Home & Was Looking Around In My Room. I Saw A Few Large Spiders But I Just Ran To My Dad To Kill Them. I Guess I Didn’t Really Connect The Bumps With The Spiders Until About An Hour Ago.. I Just Know That The Two Spiders I Saw Were Medium Sized & Brown.
I Wish I Knew How To Post The Pictures Up Here..
Another Thing I’ve Noticed Is A Major Headache I’ve Had Since I Got Home From School.
PLEASE HELP! I’m So Freaked Out!!

I live in Westchester and was in my back yard pulling weeds out of the grass when I felt as if a nail had stuck in my finger – there was a small brown/grey spider with a bulb shaped body crawling away. It drew blood – but a yet there is no numbness, swelling or blisters. If anyone has any ideas – let me know? SHould I go to a doctor right away. I do not feel sick or dizzy.

The sore that you speak of in your nose sounds extremely familiar. You may not want to hear it but I have a few questions for you to ask yourself as well. First, do you ever suffer from joint pain in the elbows, knees, back, hands etc? Do you feel very tired a lot without explaination? Do you ever get red spots or blotches on your skin when you have been in the sun for any length of time?
Reason I ask is because a few of the women in my family had complained about these sores in their nose (and they do seep) and cause headaches and soreness to the face and upper lip. They would crust over and if irritated at all, would enflame and cause severe pain. This includes myself, my mother and my sister. My mother has Systemic Lupus and I am undergoing testing for it myself (it is hereditary) -sp? they say. The sores in the nose are part of the “connective tissue” part of the disease. It was a very early symptom for my mother and had they known more about it in the 80’s they may have been able to pick that up. Unfortunately, there is no cure for Lupus as of now. However, there are ways to retard the progression and aid the symptoms now. We also noticed that we all would get cysts in the groin area around the time of our (monthly’s) and that was part of the blood disorder that all ties in together. If any of this sounds in the least bit familiar to you, please go have yourself tested. Time is of the essence when it comes to Lupus. The earlier you catch it the better. Good luck to you! Let’s hope that it’s a bug bite sweetheart!
Peace,

The spider was brown with to white stripes, any idea what it was? The spider bit me today i don’t know if it is poisonous or not.
Please tell or send me a photo today or tommow before the date rolls over.
Here is a picture of my husband’s spider bites. This is at about day 10. It felt like mosquito bites and didn’t hurt initially. They swelled way up and then turned black in the centers. It has been a month and he has brown scars. We are not sure what kind of spider bit him. He didn’t get sick and the bites and lesions didn’t spread.
Thank you for your great site.
Sincerely,
Tina
I live in NYC and just moved into a semi basement apartment. My co-worker noticed two bumps on my forehead and now there are little tiny blisters forming on it. I have a crappy HMO and I feel like my Doctor is stupid. What kind of Doctor do I have to go to for these bites? Even if I have to pay cash, I need someone who knows what they are doing. A dermatologist? The bites hurt like a pimple but its not unbearable. No itching at all. I’m kinda scared. Anyone in Queens want to come to the Doctor with me?
I got bitten on the right wrist my whole arm is swollen and all over my arm tiny white head pimples are breaking out. The bite site is very red and like a mountain the shin is cracking open and fluids are running out. Very very sore to the touch and I must have at least 50 break outs on my arm even in my armpits. Some on my stomach and my knuckles are completely gone from being swollen. I only have one hand to type with. I saw a doctor this past Sunday and they have me taking pills and putting cream on the sore, this on top of having shots. My wrist is the same and I know that last week my wrist was very itchy. I had a new tattoo done and had to jump in a dirty river to save my grandson from drowning, so this may also be part of the trouble. I am at a lost for words and pain is killing me!
My friends sister got bit on her arm and they dont know what could of bit her. The area is red the area around the bite is bleeding and there are purple veins popping up around it. is it something to be worried about? Is it a spider bite or is it a harmless insect bite? Anything would help.
The bite is on the middle finger and best I can tell it did not have a black center which is characteristic of brown recluse, BUT the finger is extremely swollen and the knuckes on the 2nd and 3rd finger are red and swollen too. First noticed 3 days ago and the above description is as of today????????
i woke up this am with swollen neck at hair line on left side and pain as the day passes now it is very painful still swollen daughter said a little red dot or indention hurts in general and more if you touch it vision a little weird today ear a little stuffy and like closed up feeling feels kinda hard to touch and bump/lump.
Also, I have some places on side of my face that almost go away and itch but when i scratch it is kinda flakey and oosy have tried benidryl, cort cream, bacitracin ointment, moisture lotions. I thought it was maybe stress or spider/bug bite and have had for about 3 months. Ideas?
Hello! I was at work yesterday, and then all at once there was a pain in my leg. I thought that I had just hit it on something really hard. When I got home it looked like I got bit by a misquito, except worse. Today it is still about the same with same pain. If someone could tell me any information it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Three years ago I was bitten outside while pruning bushes. I didnt see what bit me, but felt a tickle at the time, and just brushed at it. Well later that night, I started to get a burning sensation running up the back of my leg, where I had felt the tickle. Then it started itching. Then next day, there were little blisters on the back of my leg that really itched!
They turned into pus filled sores shortly after that. When they broke, they left a black area that scabbed over. After the scabbing, they dried up and healed. This took about two weeks maybe three. The doctor said that it was a spider bite, but didn’t know what kind, as I didn’t see one at the time.
Three years later, I still get the soreness in my leg, the blisters and then the pus filled ones that scab over. My md said that the venom can stay in the area for a long time. As of this writing I am taking an antibiotic for the infection.
It has been three years! Is this possible? It only gets sore at the exact same site as the original and never spreads anywhere else. I have a permanent purplish scar that remains at the site of the eruptions. The md says that the venom has damaged the deep tissue and if it happens again, I need to have a biopsy.
I dont understand how this works so if you have any insight on the bite and maybe type of spider that could have done this. Please feel free to let me know! I’ll try to send a photo the next time I have an eruption. It usually erupts at least two to three times every year!
My son has some kind of bite on the back of his thigh. About 1 inch in diameter feels like a ball when pressed. Spot in the middle. Any clues?
it looks like a mosquito bite but it is raised almost to a point in the middle. the bite itself is reddish, it almost feels like a bee sting, it is hard when you touch it. they are in random spot on the back of my legs. i thought i had a spider infestation in my work pants. cuz they are only on my legs; one on the back of each calf, 2 on my knee cap, 3 in a little bunch on the back of my thigh, and one around my ankle. they itch but i try not too scratch them. oh yeah i live in the basement with my window being ground level, i always see spiders down in the basement.
I’m not sure if it’s even a spider bite. I woke up today feeling very sick and running fever. Later I noticed a small bump on my finger it feels hard but very sore. It looks like a few holes or indentions on the bump. It’s now 7:30 pm I’m still feeling very sick. Cant send a pic, but does it sound like a spider bite? If so, what kind of spider could it be? Please email me ASAP! Thank’s!
I have been getting bites of some kind.. They look like a mosquito bites.. They itch real bad the botton of my feet itch and the palm of my hands itch also.. There r no bites on them. The bites i have are around my waist and on the back of my legs and on the butt.. seems like the bites are where my clothes r at.. I am calling the Dr this coming monday after all there are none open over the weekend.. can anyone help me with the itch or what to do to get them to sop bitting me Thanks Robin from Tennessee
It started out as a small black area on my leg. I scratched the black area but it was back the next morning. By then, it was extremely itch and very swollen. The black part is also recessed. It looks kind of like a small crater. Does anybody know what it is or if its even a spider bite?
What’s up?
Well, it looks like a small knot and there isn’t any marks of a bite on it that I can tell. Also, it is soft and painless. I live in Florida and there are many small brown-ish spiders in my home if that helps.
Thanxs!
I recently think I was bitten by a spider, I install automatic gate systems and I am often in the bushes, under houses, etc. I have a sore on my calf, it is about an inch around with one hole in the center. It is red around this hole and the is a kernel under it that is very painful. I also have red spotting on that leg around the sore that itches badly. Please let me know what you think it might be.
Thanks

I was bitten by something a week ago today, Monday, Oct. 1, 2007.
The area started out itching and red with a small pus pocket. Since then, it has itched and the red area has gotten to be larger than a dollar coin – it is about 6cm. The bite is by my left side clavical bone and has a red line that appeared on Sept. 29th, 2007 that extends from the bite to my left arm pit. Should I seek immediate attention. The area did not grow an open sore, but raised up slightly. Thank you.
I don’t have photos. Not sure I was bitten but I don’t know what the heck else it could be. I became aware of something a little over 2 weeks ago at the inside of my left index finger and more to the topside of the hand, bottom of the finger – it began as slightly painful but I didn’t take a look at it for a day or two. When I did it was a very small red bump that itched a bit and hurt even more. After a week I went to the doc and he said he didn’t know what it was and he didn’t want to treat it in any way – as in burning or freezing it off, or treating the slight infection it seemed to have. Since then the center of the red spot (which has grown to 3/8″ diameter) has dried up 3 separate times on the very top with a white crust that peels off and is very painful – each time the crust becoming smaller. Now it’s a 3/8″ red slightly elevated spot that itches like the dickens and is painful off and on. It was very thick/firm feeling at first and now the area has softened quite a bit. I live in Modesto, CA. Any ideas? Thank you!
I was sleeping in a friend’s cabin on the Delaware River in Upstate New York and woke up in the middle of the night because my entire right arm ached and felt sort of “paralyzed”. I could hardly move it and there was joint pain. I went back to sleep and when I woke in the morning I found a spider bite near the knuckle on my right thumb. I knew it was a spider bite because of the two punctures close together in the center of the bite. Over the next two days it swelled and produced pus and then all the skin around it died and flaked off. I also had joint pain in my hand, meaning my knuckles on my fingers and my wrist, for about two days. It’s been about a week now since the bite and the skin is just red and raw, and layers keep flaking off every day. I didn’t see the spider, so I have no idea what type of spider it could have been. I’m honestly less concerned than I am curious. Any ideas?
Two weeks ago I was bitten by a spider. I didn’t disover this until, late at knight. I developed severe head ache, joint pain, mucle pain,
stomach swelled, ran temp for five days and I still running a low grade temp., sinsitive to light with sever pain in left eye, also a rash. I sought medical attention three days after the bit. I have no idea what king of spider this was. My physician prescriber a mic. antib., and a homemade rememdy anti. bot. ointment one of our local pharm. makes.
The site where the spider bit was a large red spot. The medication is dowing great wonders, and I am feeling better.
Not knowing what spider bit me, I was wondering if anyone could help, with this by the reactions I have had.
Lately, every time i wake up i find a new red mark that kinda looks like a mosquito bite except it looks like its filled with pus or water. I’m not sure what it is but it looks like a spider bit me. I get them on different spots every time i wake up. I’ve gotten two on my thighs, one by my knee, and two on my calf. They don’t appear all at once, I get a different one almost everyday. I always pop them, but then sometimes they hurt. I found a tiny spider on my bed the other day, so that’s why I’m assuming it was a spider that bit me. I also looked up some pictures and they looked similar to spider bites. If anyone knows anything about what i just explained please let me know. I’d appreciate it.
My husband and I recently returned from a trip to the Grand Cayman Island. Within a few days of returning home, I noticed that I had several small red bumps on my legs. They itched like crazy and I could not help myself but to scratch them. I am now noticing more and more little red bumps – on my legs, arms, even my fingers. We live in Wisconsin, USA so I have no idea what I am up against but the itching is incredible and they seem to be multiplying. My husband has some of the bites on his arm, back, and chest but he said they do not itch him like they itch me. Any suggestions? I have been researching for days with no ideas! Thanks!
I was bitten by something while at work. I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The bite spot was not apparant for several hours but prior to the bite I thought I felt something, looked and could not find anything in my pants leg. The area where I was bitten but did not know at the time became itchy but no visible redness or anything till almost 48 hours later when I noticed I had a red swollen area. After several days and forgetting about the bite I was taking a shower and accidently rubbed the scab area off. Underneath the scab was a what appeared to look like a deep hole in my leg and after drying off the area was oozing a almost clear substance that would harden up if I did not wipe off right away.
I have used hydrogen peroxide on the area and neosporin but a week and a half later it does not appear to be getting better. I also approx 2 days later became violently sick, had to leave work due to being disoriented, sick to stomach, severe migraine and had no focus ability. The sickness went away about 24 later but the migraine continued for several more days and I still had a general feeling of ickyness in my stomache. I will email pics of my bite area and a possible spider suspect that I just today found in my office. I tried to now squish it to bad so it could be indentified. Subject line will be 10/4/07 spider bite and possible suspect.
Any help would be appreciated.
The other day I found a bump on my right arm, and I just totally ignored it. Today while at school, it started feeling like someone was stabbing me in the arm. One of my teachers said it was a spider bite. So when I went to the nurse all she did was but antibiotic cream on it.
It is a swollen spot on my arm that is bright red with two white bumps in the middle.
Is it a spider bite? If it is, what kind of spider bit me???
I don’t really know where I got this from, but people tell me it looks like a spider bite. I’m not sure on size, but it’s about an inch in length and has been swollen for about a week now. The bite has little purple spots on it.
On Thursday a fiend came home from working with FEMA to find her husband dead on the bedroom floor. Apparently, he had been there for several days. After an autopsy was performed it appeared to come from a spider bite on his leg. During the autopsy the doctor cut a big chunk out of his leg where the spider had bitten him. He was a semi-truck driver and had gone to Texas where he was bitten by a spider about two weeks ago. The coroner also found he had high fever, chills and vomiting. He had been vomiting in the shower.
PLEASE GET TREATMENT!
A spider bite my son about 45 minutes ago. We didn’t saw it but I can tell by the 2 puntures kind of yellowish in a pink tiny bump. He said it din’t hurt but, he feel kind of burning sensation. I call 911 and they told me to call poison control. I been told by them to clean it, put ice and wait for the next hours to see what happen. Now it looks a little more bigger but he said he doesn’t feel nothing.
I took several pictures of the bite.
I live in Tampa, Florida and just last night I was bit by a spider on my toe. My toe is swollen and red, but not too bad just hurts like hell. But my entire body is now in horrible pain. It is in such bad pain that it actually woke me up and has kept me up all night. I also feel a bit nauseous.
I was working a week ago last Friday, and I had my arm behind the chimney, it felt like a nail stabbed my arm, I pulled my arm out and didn’t see any blood so i didn’t think anything about it. Now after a week has passed my arm is puffy and red, it looked like four quarters stacked on top of each other before I popped it and tried to get it out.
It feels a little better now but is still sore and swollen. I keep pouring 91% alcohol and hydrogen peroxide on it to disinfect the area. I already went to the doctor and they gave me a prescription. I was wondering what type of spider that it was.
I noticed my son’s right leg is swollen with a hard bump. I thought it might be a due to spider bite but I couldn’t find anything that appears to match what he has. What is the recommended treatment for spider bites?
spider bite on right arm center in black 1/2 inch are pushed up red with white areas area is hard plus arm is swollen and throbbing
So far my son seems to be ok. He steel saying that he don’t feel a thing. But you can still seeing 2 tiny black puntures. no bumps, no more pink around the area. I still keeping an eye on him. I check his temperature (moms style, hand on the forehead) and I frequently ask him…”you feeling ok”. But I read in here so many people who is very seek and I don’t understand why don’t go to the hospital. The only reason I keep posting is because I notice that so many people don’t feel a thing at the moment and a couple of days later they get so sick. As soon as I notice anything wrong with my bay, I’ll run to the hospital!
This has to be a spider bite. I wrote to you guys a couple days ago saying i didn’t know what it was but it hurts sooo bad to the point that i cant even walk right. It gets worse everyday. I went to the doctor today and they gave me medicine so I hope this helps it. They told me if it gets worse to call them on Thursday. I hope it does get better because it’s way too painful and it’s so hard to move or bend my leg. It looks disgusting!
Hello,
I was bitten a few days ago by what I assumed was a mosquito. I live in Va and we have various spiders around. I remember two spiders crawling around that night who are a beige/tan color and are strange because their legs(?) in the front are disproportionately longer than the others so that they don’t look like a ‘normal’ spider to me. It’s possible that they hang off of long strings from the trees to the porch.
The bite area is red and sort of itchy around the bite and there is definitely at least one larger puncture and possibly two, but I shaved the day after so I don’t know if I just irritated it. It’s sort of swollen as well. I’m not too concerned about it as it isn’t getting bigger and doesn’t seem to be affecting me, but it would be nice to know what it is.
Thanks,
Liz
I have 3 areas of itchy red hive-like bumps on my abdomen and back that may be spider bites. They have a pale whitish center with a single “hole” in the middle. I thought they were related to food I ate, but they still are painful to touch and itchy, and it has been a week. I have been cleaning out old papers and clothes, and had some small light brown ants as well. I am afraid they are in the bedroom area, but bumps seem to erupt unrelated to sleeping. At least one set of red bumps is arranged in a very circular pattern; but each bump is distinct.
Any ideas?
i have a small bump that resembles a pimple or ingrown hair, right above my knee. within 8 hrs of first noticing the bump the whole area of the knee began to swell with alot of pain. there are a few hard spots right below and around the bump. I don’t recall being bitten, but it looks like some kind of bite to me. the whole knee area is about double the normal size of a knee with a noticeable fever in the area. any suggestions?
Bite on May 6th, 2007
Still presenting problems as of October 9th, 2007
Outside cleaning patio furniture, came in and about 1-2 hours later felt burning-itching on toes on top of left foot. I thought it was ant bites. Then noticed 2 bites at bottom of small toe and 4th toe. Very easily seen (..) two puncture marks close together. I feel it was a spider bit but did not see it.
Swelling and itching began and has not stopped since the bite. Tried to treat it with cold compresses and had tested for a fungus, medicine given by Dr. but did not help. Always returns.
After swelling and itching the skin became blistered, white and peeled away in layers.
Area around the bottom reminded me of poison ivy. In that small pustules formed and white liquid leaked out. Liquid still oozing from the area bitten and on toes. Toes still swollen, reddened, itch uncontrollably. I feel tired quite a bit since this incidence occurred.
Woke me up last night and I put cold compress on them because of the extreme itchiness to try to help me go back to sleep.
Returned to the Dr. but she cannot seem to get a handle on this. I am 76 years of age and very concerned! Anyone have any suggestions?
Has not healed in 6 months. I have been treating it with a Brown Recluse Spider kit I ordered off the web but have not had any change.
I live on the East Coast of Florida.
three bites on my back. they sting and swelled up fast. They look like welts but there are holes in them. the area around them got red but no circles. I don’t feel sick but my arm is getting tinggaley like I hit my funny bone.
I live in FL and was bit by a spider (or at least I’m pretty sure it was) on the inside of my left foot just below my ankle bone. It swelled a little bit and the area was extremely hot to the touch. Now the bite area doesn’t look bad, but my foot is bruised (purple and reddish looking) and it’s really painful. I was reading through some of the postings and there was one from Racine on Dec. 22, 2006 who lived in FL and had the same symptoms. Any ideas?
My boy was bitten on his hand a couple of weeks ago. We ignored it for a day and his hand swelled to a painful size. Anyway, his pediatrician put him on Prednisolone SOD PHOS for three days…it worked!
Hope this helps…
My brother in law is in the hospital in Cleveland Oklahoma, with redness, feverish and a severly swollen left leg. It starts about 4 inches above his ankle and goes up to the knee cap. It goes about 1/2 way around his leg. The doctors are stumped, all his tests come back normal as do his vital signs, and per an ultra sound there are no clots in that leg. He has intense pain (even after 50 mg. of morophine) and it is not responding to high dose antibiotics. It started Monday 10-8-07 and as of today (10-11-07) it is still spreading. I was wondering if it could be caused from some type of bite ?
My nephew who is two has a spider bite on his arm we can’t identify the bite but it’s large red and getting a small white tip in the center please help us because we have killed SEVEN BLACK WIDOWS in the past week and a half.
My son heals very well but, he said it itch a little bit…Are he out of danger? Does it still a chance that get infect? That was about a week ago!
About 4 or 5 days ago I believe I was bitten by something when putting on my sweat jacket. I was bitten on the back of my arm about 2 inches above the elbow. I vaguely remember the bite, it was more like a little pain. I really didn’t pay no mind to it, other then the constant dull pain in my arm, I am now starting to experience a burning sensation along with the constant ache. I believe this bite is causing some nerve distress from the area where bitten down my arm into my hand, in fact, at times my hand feels ice cold and tingly. The best that I can discribe the actual wound area is as follows; it is about an inch in circumference, swollen (like a small goose egg), red with white raised bumps (like a real bad case of acne). I can not see any sort of punture type in the area. I am far from being a worry wart over things, but, this certainly concerns me due to the pain and the nerve distress I am encountering. I really don’t like having to spend hundreds of dollars to a Doctor, just to tell me it’s nothing, or something stupid. If you could shed a little light on this, it would be greatly appreciated. I am going to try and send a picture with this.
Sincerely,
Debbie Johnson
Hi, I live in Michigan, and in the middle of the night, I felt a pinch on the end of my nose and then a few minutes later the bite started to burn. In the morning, I looked at the bite and the bite mark was red with a small bite mark in the middle of all the redness. The bite mark oozed white liquid. I’m not sure if the liquid is pus or not. It’s been a few days and the area still looks red and she it’s still burning as much as it did if I touch it or not. I’ve tried cleaning it with hydrogen peroxide and that seems to be helping a little, but would you know what kind of bite mark this is? Just in case, so I know if have to go see a doctor or not.
Thank you,
Claire Craddock.
It looks like a little white head. It’s really red and puffy around it. My whole leg hurts from it. I have tried popping the “white head” and only a little bit of pus came out.
Hi, i live in South Africa and one day woke up with a red lump on my pointing figer, it is sore to the touch, after 2 days it grew a little yellow ‘bulb’ in the middel! it is starting to seriuosly scare me! I have recently been very light headed and very bad headaches, all my joints are sore and are all swollen(behind knee’s, hands and fingers, feet are swollen) I tried to squeeze it because i thought it was a really big pimple, i had the same (simalar) bite in the entrance of my nose! The day i got the bitten I had to get rid of 3 spiders on my bed, they were small but still scary, any advise????

I live in South Carolina near the coast and my 3 year old son was bitten this weekend. We don’t exactly know what it was. I think it was a spider. My husband and I both have bites and they are all identical. It starts out as looking like a pimple but with a strange center. Then it gets very swollen and the tissue around it is hard and red and warm to the touch. When it does finally pop It leaves a sort of pot hole in your skin. I’m taking my son to the doctor today. I would just like to find out what it was. Thank You!
I have attached below a picture of a spider bite that is located on the back of my head. I am wondering if anyone knows what kind of spider this might have of been and what I should do about it.
To #300 (Lindsey):
I’m CONVINBCED, now, that I, too, have suffered a BAD SPIDER BITE…
It started about six weeks ago: at first, I felt a hard, “pinchy-painful” bump on the back of my neck, and, as I spent a lot of time outdoors in my garden during this summer, assumed it was either a “sweat-pimple” or a mosquito bite…
Of course, it itched like mad, and over the next few days I tried EVERYTHING to stop the itch and burn, from peroxide to calamine lotion, witch hazel and Neo-sporin to Lana-Cain, to no avail.
The bump swelled and the skin broke, but no bleeding, just a sappy clear ooze, and after that, it was weeping constantly. I couldn’t put a bandaid on it, or it would STICK when it dried (sort of, because it never REALLY dried, either) and the flimsy soft scab would get pulled off (YOWWWW) when I removed the bandaid…
At the same time, although I never connected the two situations until now, I experienced a few major migraine-type heaadaches and stomache-flu symptoms (indigestion, nausea, lethargy, just plain YUCKY feeling) that had me in bed most of the following week! Because this “flu” was so miserable, I assumed IT was causing my “bug bite” to not heal quickly.
While I was back on my feet at the end of two weeks, although still dealing with monster headaches and off-and-on nausea, the bite area was worse, swelling to about the size of a grape, and “hollowed out” now, like a “crater”, as someone here put it, never dry, always “weeping” this sticky yellowish-clear fluid.
Besides being painful, it was UGLY, I’m sure, to look at, even though *I* couldn’t see it, so I kept my hair in a low ponytail when out, hoping to hide it and not to disgust other people. But my sisters both remarked on it one afternoon, telling me it looked livid purple around the edges and that I might need to see a doc to get antibiotics…
(I didn’t listen).
By the fourth week or so, it was “drying” and peeling around the edges, the swelling was going down, but the itch was still maddening. Suddenly, I discovered that there were TWO NEW itchy painful BUMPS just above the slowly healing one! That was two weeks ago (today’s October 15).
Now, I am going through it all over again with the latest “bites” that have by now merged into one huge wound above the first one. This pair are just in my hairline at the nape of my neck, so I had trouble getting the pictures (see below) right (without hair being in the way). I must say, I am shocked, and sicker than I already was, after seeing the pictures.
The older bite area, ringed by a deep grey-purple bruise-looking color, almost looks as though *something* (the round white area) is IN THERE!!!
Above it, the fresh wound is deep and raw and painful, seeping constantly, and everytime I move my head, my hair gets stuck to it, then yanks up the nasty “wet gunk (so definitely not a real scab). I had no idea the whole “wound” area was this huge until looking at pictures a little while ago…
Did I get bit TWICE and THRICE by a relative of the first guy, during my forays into the garden???
I have had NO OTHER BITES like these, anywhere on me, ever.
Since they are not anywhere else, I’ve ruled out scabies or impetigo (sp?), but I’m still not very reassured. Will get to a doc this week FOR SURE and have him look at these…
Because now I’m freaking out (that white lump – what IS that??) and worried something *left something there*…
Anyway, sharing the ghastly pics of MY super-bad spiderbites below…
Thanks for letting me sound off…now I’m off to the bathroom for some dry heaving… ;-(

My husband is a Electrican yesterday he had to stick his arm up into a concrete wall. When I picked him up later that day I saw a reddish blue bump on his left forearm. I asked what happen and he told me that he did not even realize that it was there. (He gets lots of cuts and scraps all the time) It looks like a spider bite to me. This morning he woke up for work and the bump had a head on it and pus came out of it. If anyone knows what this is please let me know
I live in MN, Went into my RV to close up the windows and took my hiking boots off as not to put foot prints on the floor. It was night time and I did not turn lights on so I was working in the dark. Slipped my boots back on and left the RV to go to the house. I walked about 100 yards when I felt an unbelievable burning sensation on the top of my foot. I quickly pulled off my boot and looked at my sock in the darkness when I noticed a light colored spider (white) about the size of a quarter on the grass.
My first response was to pound the little guy wildly with the boot in my hand while hobbling on one foot and so I did. The problem with doing this is that I lost the little guy in the deep wet grass in the darkness. I am sure I got him as I pounded the ground about 1000 times a second in my excited state.
My question/comment is the pain I felt… I have been stung by Bees in the past and yeah it hurt… This was much worse than a Bee sting and it hurt for a lot longer. It felt like someone took a lit cigarette and held it on the top of my foot. I only tolerated this for about 20 minutes before calling the hospital for advice. I was bitten by a spider one other time and it was a red spider about the size of a dime and that felt less painful then a Bee sting. I got (squished) that one in my hand right after he bit me in the back.
It’s been two days since I was bit by the white spider and I have a small rash on my upper foot with two entry marks about 3/8″ apart. What kind of white or really light grey spider in MN can deliver such a painful bite? The hospital told be to clean the bite area and then put a baking soda/water paste on the bite to draw out the venom. Then about an hour later they called me and advised me to get a tetanus shot and said many outdoor spiders carry tetanus.
Anyone know how such a small insect can deliver such a whopping painful bite?
I have a bite, small in a circle. looks like there is a black stinger in it and inflamation circling it. There is nothing stuck in it. It does not hurt and no side effects. I did not see the spider.
I live in Central Arkansas.
I noticed 2 bites on my right shin/calf area yesterday afternoon. They were 2 raised, white pus filled bumps about a quarter of an inch apart. The red area around the bumps was about the size of two half dollars laid side by side and it didn’t really concern me until I woke up this morning and the redness around the bites (which have since popped on their own) has quadrupled in size.
here is the best picture I could take of my leg:
Does anyone know what this might be a bite from? and is it worth waiting until tomorrow to see a doctor?
and just for a reference on how much the redness has grown, the black outlines the area that was red yesterday, and the blue outlines the new redness
Thanks in advance for any and all help
hi i seem to have these little bites and they come in twos, but it seems to be spreading and i dont usually feel it when things bite me so im not sure. But the bites look like little pimples but they hurt and itch.So if you can, help me!!!
Thanks
One comment, Staph infection -CA MRSA – if it’s red, hard, swollen and there is pus….maybe you should have a doctor check it out. We have endured 3 staph infections in my household and you can’t treat it yourself. Some of these pictures looked like some of the infections we had.
I had a red mark on my arm that formed a lump with the center slightly reder than the rest of the lump and it was painful. it went away after a couple weeks. All of a sudden out of nowhere it is back again and seems to be getting worse. Can this be a spider bite? I’ve heard someone else mention something like this and It is definately not a pimple.
Thanks
Morgan, it is good you brought this up (MRSA). because I am being tested for this right now!!! I posted earlier here (see my pics, post #490), but when my sister, an RN, visited and saw that my neck was getting worse, not better, she insisted I see my Doc.
Good luck … hoping ours really ARE “just” spider bites! ;-(
This is a bad, bad, bad staph infection that has beaten about every anti-biotic out there. Praying I’ll have the lesser of the two evils…

I have what I believe to be a spider bite. I live am in Kirksville, Missouri, though I do stay in St. Louis during the summers and holidays (college student).
It is on my butt, and it is not very big, maybe a quarter inch in diameter including the red area, but it sticks out a little bit as well. It doesn’t burn or itch or anything, and I’ve had it for 2 weeks now perhaps. The center of it (the part that is mainly sticking out) has turned blackish. The area around it is growing hard underneath the outermost fatty area, but the blackened area recently grew softer before one would reach the hard part by poking it, and it is usually much warmer than the area around it. It is tender to sit on and to touch, but otherwise it doesn’t bother me. I have been having some headaches, but nothing else of note, and the headaches have only started within the last couple days or so. Any ideas on what this could be?
I live in Orange Beach, Alabama. I did not see what bit me. I was bitten while sitting in my car with long pants on. The bite is just above my knee. It is a blister cluster with a red circle around it about 3″ in diameter now. It itches and my joints in the knee and hip are beginning to ache 24 hours later. I have not gone to the hospital but will continue to monitor the bite.
