For the past two days me and my little sister have had a red lump on our face kinda like a pimple thats swollen but on opposite sides (she has it on her left and I have it on my right) there is also a bit of swelling on my jaw (outside) I studied up a bit on white tails and read that they prey on other smaller spiders. We’re not sure when we’ve got bitten but I’ve seen little black spiders in my room.(they might have nested over the holidays because we were overseas.) Im not sure if its a white tail thats been in our room (we share a room) or the little black spiders itself that could of bitten us.There is no bite marks just a round pus filled circle in the centre.
    PLESE HELP!

Woke to an intense stinging in my armpit and upper inner arm, no redness,no evidence of a bite. For days had several episodes of flashing sting-like sensations in the area. Thought I had shingles. That has subsided but the area is sensitive to clothing yet the tissue feels numb. Never did see a spider….dead or alive. I live in Maryland and it’s winter here so no open windows. What kind of spider/insect bit me? Will the problem resolve?

I live in Ft Worth TX. Four days ago I awoke with burning on my neck.
Looking in the mirror, I saw a puncture, (or maybe 2 tiny ones together) and the beginning of little blisters. I took a couple of Keflex that I already had and put some anti-biotic cream on it. On the third day, I went to the doctor, who told me to keep up the same treatment.

It kept getting worse, hurting more, and spreading. I called the doctor back, who was off work that day, and she returned my call and told me to go to the emergency room at the hospital. I was seen after a 7 hour wait, given a shot, and stronger antibiotics. Today, I awoke, with sores in my hair, all the way around the back of my neck and now creeping up on my face, toward a spot that had stitches removed last week. (4 days before the bite) I presume it was a spider, as I am plagued with spiders in my home.

My home is being fumigated tomorrow, but too late to solve this. Meanwhile, I am beginning to panic because of the location of the bite. Have been to a doctor, been to the hospital, and don’t know where to turn next.

Can you please advise me. I am terrified! Kathryn Hamby

    Hello,
I live in South Dakota…were there are just basically daddylong legs and those kind of spiders…I am 13 and I just recently moved downstairs where there are more spiders…….

I recently just notise a little red spot on my chest, it is a bit itchy, and I don’t think it is swelling up (as much as I can tell) but earlyier today it had a little bit of white stuff on it..I think it was scabbing over (or pusing) so I put some medication on it and it went back to normal..whenever I take a shower or bath it looks and feels a lot better….no other symptons… so I’m pretty sure its not serious but I just want to make sure its not something to worry about..please repley back…I also do not know any spider of this….??? so please please repley back

Yesterday my one year old daughter was sent home from daycare because of some kind of bite on her stomach. It was a little larger that quarter in size pink circle with brown center. The colors were very light at the time. I took her to the doctor and he said it looks like some kind of insect bite to just take her home, and if it gets worse to bring her back. This morning while getting her dressed I looked at the area again, today the brown spot is much larger but almost looks like a burn that is scabbing over. The pink area surrounding is not as large and is also a little darker in color. There is no pus, and of course she can’t tell me how it feels. I do know she is very clingy now and wanting to be held and tired.

I think that I have been bitten by a spider but I am not sure what kind. The bite area is hard and alot of pusy white stuff came out. It looked like a mosquito bite with a whitehead on it, and I have three of them on the same leg. A little white ball came out of one of them, and theother two, the skin came off of it and it looks funny. I do believe it is a spider that is doing it.

Hi I live in Germany and my husband was bit by something. The bite left almost pimple like pustuels (sp?) and itched terribly. Then in the morning after his shower around the bite was red with a red line going from the bite down to his armpit.

We took him to the emergency room and the German Dr.s don’t know what it was that bit him. They put something on the wound then cast his arm. We thought it to be a Brown Recluse but after looking at some pictures it doesn’t look like that at all.

He’s not feeling ill, no fever, but the area is very tender and his arm hurts if he moves it. We live right next to a forest so it really could be anything, and I’m not quite up to date with German wildlife. If this sounds like anything you have seen please let me know.

Now I have to go through the house and hopefully (I’m not sure I want to) find this thing.

    UPDATE 2/20/08:

We found out what it was, it wasn’t a spider bite. I was a staph infection. We saw a picture on your site that looked similar to the thing on my husbands arm, and several people left comments to this person that it looked like a staph infection. So thank you for having a site that gave us the answer. We were able to take care of it and the infection is healing nicely.

Thanks for the help and for having the site!!!

I hope Cindy did something about her bite. My husband was bitten in the scrotum whilst sleeping. Within a couple of days, he was feeling most unwell and the site of the bite turned black. Necrotising fasciaitus had set in. He underwent drastic surgery to remove the skin and underlaying tissue. Drastic measures but saved his life. We have no idea what kind of spider caused it. We live in the UK and get more than our fare share of large house spiders….which I now exterminate whenever I see them.

I don’t know what I have, after talking with a few folks they think I’ve got spider bites on my face. Please see the image below.

    Marks Spider Bites on Head

A theory here is that I walked into a spider web on Wednesday and collected spider eggs. Went home, slept, took shower in the morning (Thursday). Thursday & Friday, asymptomatic. Saturday morning my forehead hurt. By Saturday afternoon, this started forming. So (in theory) I could have picked up some spider eggs on Wednesday night, deposited them in my bed, then they hatched on Friday night and bit me through the night… is this even possible?

    Today is Monday.

Is a doctor visit in order?

Do these look like spider bites? I have no fever or anything, but the area hurts. Doesn’t really itch, just hurts. Also my neck on that side hurts.

The image below is of my bottom. I’m not sure what insect bit me, but I’m a little confused about it because it is the size of a baseball but not all of it is red.

    Bite on Bottom

I am not vomiting or have stomach pain or anything but I did have a temputure of 99.2, the highest so far. Any wisdom anyone would like to pass on? I am kind of worried.

This is day 3 and I have been using creams and pain reliever and fever reducer. The bite doesn’t hurt all the time just when I sit down.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

I think I was bit by a spider – there are two small scabs the size of finishing nail heads right next to each other. The bite is on my middle finger knuckle – it is swollen and there is pain around the knuckle and up through my two middle fingers. It almost feels like I jammed my knuckle or arthritis.

    Thanks for any response!

I live in Key Largo, Fl…I woke up this morning and noticed a silver dollar sized bruise looking thing on my left leg just below the knee on the calf muscle. It hurts constantly, but occassionaly there are very sharp, stabbing pains. I live in an old wooden house, surrounded by woods, and spiders and giant centipedes are everywhere…Anyway…the affected area isn’t swollen, but it’s tender to the touch, and the skin wrinkles when I push on it… it’s all purple and slight greenish-blue tinge to it…Kinda like it’s necrotic…I hope like heck it isn’t a brown recluse bite…I just got out of debt from a surgery over two years ago…with no insurance, I just can’t afford a doctor visit right now. Seems to be alot of folks on here in the same boat.

    Laura,

My son had a similar bite on his chest when he was 3 months old and then when he was 1 yr old. It got swollen and hard underneath and we took him to the ER. It ended up being MRSA. It is a resistant bacteria Staph Infection. It can be very serious if not treated properly. The only antibiotic that will treat it is Bactrim which is a sulfur drug. They have to in most cases, lance it open and drain the pus and then pack it with gaze so it stays open and heals from the inside out. As well has putting them on an antibiotic. I would if you haven’t already done so or found out what it is, take him to your dr or to the ER and ask them about the MSRA. Hopefully your son does not have this, but it sounds like it could be. Even if they drained the pus out, but didn’t leave it open to heal it will close up and form pus again and you will be right back to square one.

About 2 weeks ago, I noticed a spider bite on my leg. I squeezed the pus out of it, and it wasn’t sore anymore. Then about a week later, it started getting really itchy. I squeezed more pus out of it, and then put anti-biotic on it. Then it got really itchy. My mom put anti-itch cream on it, and then a red, raised circle of itchiness developed around it, about the size of a quarter. Does anyone know what kind of spider this would be?

I live in Portland, OR. I’m not sure what I was bitten by and I never saw the spider.
The bite is on my forearm and its a red welt about 10cm in diameter with a hole in the middle that is turning white. The areas where I have viens are turning red and I can see that the redness is slowly creeping up my arm through the veins. I have a dull headache and neck pain. Any idea what would cause this? Does it require a doctor’s attention?

I don’t’ have a picture but wondering what bit me and what I can do about it. I was taking a nap down in our basement rec room. When I woke up, behind my knee hurt. I have a perfectly round red spot about the same size as a nickel behind my upper calf. That was two days ago. Now it has a visible bump in the middle that is lighter in color, almost yellow. It itches but only hurts if I somehow hit it on something. I worry because I have never seen anything like this and do not have insurance to go to the doctor. Anyone have an idea on what this is from, spider or insect? What can I do about it?

the bite is on the arm. about 3 inches down from the bite it looks like a terrible rash with hives. the bite itself is a little puffy and the mark of the bite is looks like a 1/4 of an inch long. is this a spider bite? what kind? is it dangerous.

Hi – hoping you can help me.
I currently live in Oregon. I travelled to Columbia, SC on 2/24. I believe that during the night of 2/24, I was bitten by a spider (perhaps a brown recluse). On the morning of 2/25 my left cheek was a little red & you could see two puncture marks. By 9:30p.m. my face was red, the area was hard & my neck on the left was stiff & red. My gland was swollen & sore. I went to the ER. At or about 3am they gave me antibiotics IV & sent me hope with a prescription for antiobiotics. I still have a bright red area on my cheek. What do you think? Thanks!

    Hi.
I have a mark on my arm that looks like some of the pictures you have posted on this site… but I’m not really sure about it. I have a small bump with a white head. There is a perfect red circle all around it about the size of a quarter (it was the size of a dime earlier)
I really didn’t think anything about it until today, because earlier there was no perfect circle around it, and I haven’t messed with it at all. Someone notify me of what the heck it is please…

3 days ago i woke up while scratching at something and found that i was rather wounded in two lines each an inch and a half long on my tricep, each line consists of about 7 bite areas though its hard to tell. See the image below.

Evan and bite lines on arm

There are other bites on a vein on my inner forearm and another couple by my elbow.

They itch more and more and sweat out a clear and yellowy sap which dries in flaky patterns not quite like a scab around the wound.

My arm is also sore in a dull way, and i have had headaches on and off since i got them.

It is incredibly itchy and distracting.

    What does anyone think?

I live in southern California if that helps and there are pictures here.

Yesterday aroung 1PM I noticed a small white itchy circle on the top of my hand. By 7 PM it was painful red and itchy and slightly swollen. Over night my whole arm was sore and a long red trail of a slightly raised red rash appeared going all the way up and passed my elbow. Also during the ngiht the bite swelled up to the point where my knuckles are no lnger visible and my entire hand was about 1 inch swollen and very red, itchy and painful. The muscles in my forearm are sore and slightly spasmatic. I am leaving in about 40 minutes to seek treatment.
No cortisone will work, and it just seems to keep spreading. I never saw the spider or felt the bite. I havent taken pictures yet but I wil, and I will post them. Now it is even hard to type andalmost impossible to write. I havent read or seen anything that gives a clue as to what bit me, there are no bite marks to be found. No bullseye, no blisters, etc. I do feel very weak, sweaty and slightly dizzy like I am slightly tipsy. I have the worst luck I tell you….

Hi there, fellow bitten ones….I live in Oregon and get bit and stung many times a year, and as I get older the wounds and pain and swelling all tale a lot longer to heal.
First of all, dont mess around with bites of any kind or self treat or ignore your illnesses. (think Jim Henson)
However, I now feel comfortable using these “treatments” on myself, and they seem to help me.
What I have found that works for me for bites and stings…..
    1. Cold treatment. Soak the area in cold water or use ice or frozen peas wrapped in a cloth to prevent frostbite, as soon as possible.I will rub an ice cube directly on the sting/bite immediately. Just keep the area as cold as you can stand without freezing. Buy a couple of the cheapest frozen peas in a bag, so you can rotate them in and out of your freezer. Ice in a ziplock bag will work too. Remember to not freeze your skin,so remove the pack as soon as your skin goes numb. .
2.Benadryl pills to fight the allergic reaction/swelling .Take as the instructions say.
3.Caladryl lotion or anything with camphor in it.
4.DO NOT SQUEEZE, SCRATCH, POKE, PROD, OR ANNOY THE AREA!
I know it feels good, or you just like to watch the “show”, but all you are doing is prolonging your agony and risking infection.
5.See a qualified doctor. Dont listen to friends about diagnosis or treatment, even old farts like me.

I have observed first hand the quickness a yellow jacket/hornet/wasp can sting you, leaving double punctures that look like a spider bite.
My body reacts pretty much the same to a bite or sting. Pain, swelling, blistering, etc.
A lot of the pics posted have the same appearance of my yellow jacket (bee) stings. If the bee strafes me , I get the row of blisters like in the previous post.
A lot of the pics appear like my flea or chigger bites.
A lot more look like my poison ivy or oak, where I had the oils on my hands and scratched myself.
I use the same treatment on all, and am doing so right now as I just got bit yesterday on my finger. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr thanks craig

Hi, I am in London UK, and was bitten by a brown recluse (I believe) as killed 3 of them in 6 weeks. I’m putting anti-ant powder down but my hand keeps swelling up but no pain – I am taking antihistamines and have done for 3 weeks but soon as I stop taking them, the swelling comes back on the hand. I’m amazed this is still swellingand wonderinf if I ought to change antihisamine and if anyone else is having success. I have no blistering etc YET and hope to avoid that. It’s a very weird experience, I’ve lived here all my life and never come across these spiders before. They like the dark, so I leave lights on all the time.
I’d like to know how the got to the UK?

I was in cancun mexico all last week but early last week while there i noticed the start of a half dollar sized rash on the back of my hand starting. also there was two little blisters protruding from it. as the week went on the blisters started to heal but the rash got worse and turned a deep red brown like a birthmark. its been a week and a half since and its still there.

Hi. I live in the Chicago suburbs and was bitten several times on the torso in a movie theater. At first they looked like mosquito bites, but 3 days later, the red areas around the bites are spreading and it’s itchier than ever. I do not have any black marks, whiteheads or blisters. I believe this could save a limb or even your life if you are ever bitten by a spider such as the brown recluse.

“IF” you can get a doctor to prescribe the LOWEST milligram dosage of a nitroglycerin patch- take the patch and cut it out to cover your spider bite. Make sure its not ANY bigger than your bite. Put it on your bite and leave it there. No matter hat stages your bite is in (the earlier the better) but even if it has ulcered it will heal. I’m most confident this will work! Good Luck!

So, I was in Florida last week with family, and on the drive home noticed an itchy bump on my neck. Thought it was a mosquito bite or similar, but I am lucky to be one who RARELY reacts to mosquito bites (thank you, camping and boating as a child!). Then, as I am scratching it (I know, I know, stop that!), I notice a smaller pea-sized bump about 1″ away just at my hairline, see the picture below:

    Spider Bite on Claires neck.

Now, the larger one is about 1.5″ long, .5″ wide, red, raised, puffy and itchy/sore (like a cut or burn), but the small one is just a tiny pea-sized bump under the skin with no color, but rock-hard and very sensitive like a bruise or injection site from a shot. Odd… just woke up with them, bit in the night I guess. Any clues? It has been 4 days since I found them and not much change… which is really what worries me. Thanks and good luck to all with bites!

Just remembered that I did step on a large brown spider (short legs, kind of fuzzy, fat round abdomen) that was carrying an egg sack and heading towards my 2-year old son, after he dug her up in the sand in Florida, in the garden. Don’t know if that has anything to do with it or helps. I KNEW I should have washed off my shoe, but now am wondering if really could have any relation (most likely not- this was 2 days prior to the bite and I don’t think eggs or dead spiders bite).

3/23/08 Follow-up: OK, so I went to the doctor, since after the bite, my throat and neck started to feel sore and bruised. No big deal- definitely a bug bite, maybe spider. He recommended a little Benadryl topical, and gave me a prescription for an antibiotic, but only if it got worse. The Benadryl helped a lot with the swelling and pink spot, and now it’s not so itchy. Better safe than sorry, and he had lived in the Florida region where I was staying, and said there are plenty of bugs/spiders that could have caused it. Looks better already! Thanks to Jim for the post and photos, and quick response! Good luck to all others who have become spider prey :)

I have had problems with spider bites before and ended up going to a dermatologist not knowing what it was. The dermatologist told me I had a severe reaction to spider bites, more than normal. He also told me that a spider does not stay on your body, but will go around and bite you in many places and that it can take up to three days before all the bites will appear.

In the middle of the night while asleep something bite me all over one of my feet and I scratched it to the point in the morning I couldn’t tell if it was a spider bite or what. Today on my leg there appeared more bites but the thing that has me baffled at the moment, I can’t seem to see the two bite holes left by spider but I can see one indention in the middle of the bite. Has anyone ever experienced a bite that had only one indention in the middle instead of the usual two for a spider, and to your knowledge was this a spider bite or do you know of another creature that causes one indention in the middle? I don’t think these are flea bites as they are larger than flea bites in the redness and I don’t remember flea bites having a thing which I’m calling an indention in the middle.

    Any help appreciated.

    Hi all,
Well the other day.. Saturday (It’s Monday now. I notice two little bite marks on my hand (well one bite but two little punctures. Now it does not hurt or anything like that, but should I still be concerned. I get very paranoid and worried and sometimes i get symptoms because i think about things so much that i actually make myself feel sick.

Now there is no redness except on the actual punctures and i have been getting headaches but obviously my problem is that i do work myself up so i don’t know if its just me or a symptom..

That is the approximate size of the bite, my camera did not show the mark so i had to just draw them on. (note, picture did not make it, resending)

    please let me know

I was bit by something last Thursday not sure what it is but i believe it is a spider bite. It is located on my arm, it hurts and looks like a pimple; I am a worry wart so I’m scared. I have not been to a doctor yet but a friend told me to take baking soda and add water to make a paste and apply it to the infected area. I did the application and it seemed to be working but now it is getting worst!

Please tell me what to do.

    Thank you!

A few days ago I was out in the woods with my cousin, we were just playing around, and we sat down on tree stumps. With all the mosquitoes out right now (Mississippi is swarming with them), I thought I’d been bitten by a mosquito that day, so I didn’t really think much of the raised white mark on my inner thigh.

I originally thought the bite might even just be a pimple left over from like, sweat or something. So typically, I squeezed it. Well, over the past two days it has swelled into a small sore type thing with a large ring of red. The bite mark is hard, almost like a scab, though it is sickly green and yellow, with a tiny black dot in the middle. The skin directly around the mark is hard and tight, and the entire bit where my leg is red is tight and the muscle aches and throbs. See the picture below:

    Bite on Joseph

My parents are taking me to the doctor tomorrow. We’re pretty sure it’s a spider bite(from my mom’s perspective, who’s had three pretty bad ones) though we’re just worried it might have been a brown recluse. As a dancer with a solo coming up for a show, it’s totally gonna suck if it leaves me unable to move much on my leg. Eh.

    Update: 3/27/08
So I went to the doctor yesterday, and it indeed was a spider bite. He couldn’t identify exactly what kind of spider it was, but based on the symptoms he said it was most likely brown recluse.

He told me that if I had waited any longer, the medication he gave me might not have worked as well. I’ve got an antibiotic ointment, pills that I take four times a day for ten days, and I was given a shot to help speed things along. Apparently I have some sort of immunity or at least resistance to spider venom, and after like, five days, there’s still been no necrosis or anything. My doctor told me that if there was any necrotic tissue, it would be about the size of a pencil eraser at most and that I might not even scar.

The redness is almost completely gone now, and the only thing I really feel is a bit of tightness when I’m walking/stretching and a dull itch. Anyways, to anyone reading this, I urge you to go to the doctor if you even THINK that you’ve got a spider bite! I got off lucky, apparently. Don’t freak out, just be sure to get it checked out.

Greetings, I found this website most helpful (and fascinating!) and thought I’d take the time to attach the photo below which I believe to be a spider bite for your review since my regular doctor can’t see me today and I dread the emergency room…

    Spider bite on Nina

I woke up Tuesday morning with an extremely itchy spot on my lower-inner thigh and when I touched it through my sweatpants, I felt a hard, raised spot. When I looked, I was horrified to see a small black puncture mark within a red circle that was surrounded by a ring of pale skin surrounded again by a gigantic bruise ring. I do bruise easily and I am sensitive to insect bites, but today I seem to be feeling systemic effects: stomach cramping, mild nausea and headache, achiness, all that seem to be relieved when I lay down and stay still. The swelling and bruising has subsided somewhat today when I took the attached photo.

Because of the severity of the bite visually, it’s difficult to dismiss the possibility that the symptoms I’m experiencing are related to the bite as I am a normally healthy person.

Any insight you may have would be greatly and gratefully appreciated!
    Take care,
    ~ Nina S.
    Malibu, CA

    Update 4/4/08 – Hi, Jim…

I went to the doctor on Monday to have my supposed-spider bite checked out but all symptoms had subsided by that time – the bruising had almost completely faded and the puncture wound looked like no more than a flea or mosquito bite. I showed him the pictures taken when it was fresh and described the systemic symptoms I had experienced and he chalked it up to coincidence… He stated that the severe “cosmetic” reaction I had could have easily even been caused by a mere flea depending on what compound in their saliva I’m allergic to. He did run a Lyme Disease test since I was there for blood work anyways, but told me it would be extremely unlikely that I had contracted it without being aware of when or by what I was bit.

I will follow up with results, and I do appreciate your insight and concern!
    Cheers!

I live in Central California and I’ve recently been receiving bites on a regular basis by what I believe to be spiders. I originally started getting the bites at night while I sleep which led me to believe I had bed bugs, however while at work I was receiving bites and I found a small bug in my shirt so I trapped it and took it to my local pest control company.

They identified it as a spider and he told me that I must have a nest in my room to get as many bites as I did. The spider is small, about the size of a pin head, its body is black and it has brown legs. I’ve tried everything to get rid of them, I’ve fumigated my room twice and cleaned it all out but I think there are still spiders in it.

I believe they have gotten into my clothes because I continually receive new bites whenever I change clothes. I’ve washed my entire clothes collection twice, but still receive bites when I change into new clothes. However these things are so small I don’t feel the bites and I’ve only been able to catch two of them.

It’s pretty hard to describe the bites, it’s better to look at the pictures to see them. I don’t know how long they take to show up after a bite, but they itch like crazy and swell up into big welts before going back down in about an hour.

I have the exterminator coming tomorrow, but these things are driving me crazy. Can anyone help identify what kind of spiders these are? Because I thought spiderlings weren’t capable of biting and I also thought spiders aren’t prone to biting so why are these things hiding in my clothes and biting me every chance they get? It’s like they’re feeding on me it’s disgusting.

Here are the pictures of what the bites are like:

I had what i believe was a spider bit since they were living in my room until i had cleaned them out, or so i thought. I woke up with a red mark and what i had thought was a pimple. I was running late so never got a good look at it. I could just feel it on my face (middle jaw area). I tried to pop it but it wasn’t that. there was little sorta crystal piece that feel off. And for the next few days it would sting. I assumed it was a spider bit, and a co-worker thought so too. I didn’t think much of it. a few days later a little tenderness was felt from them back of my jaw below my ear. i could just feel it was when I reached for items or when i layed down to bed. Then I felt a lump and it was getting bigger. It wasn’t visually but you could feel it. I finally went to the doctor and it was a gland that is there probably absorbed the contents of the bite. So now i am on anti biotics and anti inflammatory 3X’s a day!! Still have so we will see.

    hey
My friend came up to me saying that she got bit by a spider. it looked like a wasp sting but she said the nurse told her that it was a spider bite. it is white and puffed (about the size of a quoter($.25)) and has a red dot in the middle but she said she was sick and her head hurt. i really need some one to tell me or show me a picture a bite during the first day. and does all spider bites make two holes cause i have a scar from a spider bite when i was little and it has two holes? how does a spider bite you? with its mouth or something?

please answer really soon like today and really really really soon

I haven’t seen any posted questions about OLD bite trauma. I can try to get someone to help me upload a photo. I live in Columbia, SC. Near the end of March 2007 I was barefooted, seated at the computer, when I became aware of the top of a toe itching furiously.

That’s all it did for about two weeks: ITCH! I expected it to disappear gradually. Instead, as the itching diminished, a whitish spot appeared under the skin. It began to look like I had a tiny pearl on the toe, deep under the skin.

I saw a podiatrist last July and I pointed out the bump. He inspected it, said he’d never seen anything like it, looked intently at the x-rays again, said the bump is only skin deep and said I should see a dermatologist. He looked relieved! The center of the orb is now darker than the surrounding skin, is as hard as a rock, and doesn’t bother me at all except when I press on it.

I plan to have a dermatologist remove it when the weather’s warm enough for me to wear sandals all day. Have you ever heard of such a bite or seen one? Thanks!

thought I would share pictures of my son’s spider bite with everyone. The healing process is still ongoing.

    Spider bite on finger

It all started when he stuck his hand inside a shoe that he hadn’t worn in a while, it was in his closet, and that’s how he got bit. The first 2 pictures, are within 1-2 days. He knew he got bit, but not right away, because of the swelling and the white pimply looking spot.

The second picture was taken on the 3rd day and still not
treatment. Urgent Care saw him on the second day and did nothing.

The emergency room and JMH in Festus, MO saw him on the 4th day and did nothing. The 3rd and 4th pictures where on the 4th day and were taken while he was at a different hospital ER.

The hole was to the bone by this time and the plastic surgeon stuck surgical scissors in the hole and scrapped out some of the infection and packed it with gauze! That’s what is sticking out of the hole.

The last two pictures were taken yesterday, which was about the 8th or 9th day. It is healing, but still very serious. He has been on antibiotics since last Thursday, the 3rd of April and the bite happened on the 28th of March. He is going to see the plastic surgeon today. There is still a lot of infection in the wound, but it is draining.

I woke up with a 1 inch by .5 inch bump on my elbow
2-3 days later, my elbow, forearm and upper arm were itching
4-5 days later, the bite itself broke and started oozing a clear liquid that would harden. There was no bleeding of any kind, but itching resumed.
9-10 days later (now), the bite seems to be healing, but there was never any bleeding and no scab seems to be forming. The itching is still present, but of less intensity.

What should I do? I am from northern california, lower SF bay area, and have never experienced anything like this before. Any help is appreciated1

I got bit in five places on my arm, two of the bite areas became red, swollen and hot to the touch. In the morning the bite was large and red but as the day continued, the redness spread around my whole arm and it was very hard and warm to the touch. Surprisingly it didn’t hurt though.

I went to the doctor who said I have cellulitis and gave me three injections, an antibiotic, a pain reliever, and an anti inflammatory. I was also prescribed prednisone and ibuprofen. So I stopped sleeping in my bed for awhile and when I returned got bit again, twice on the arm and once on the neck.

These bites too became red and swollen however they weren’t hard or warm. I’ve been taking antibiotics prescribed to me after having dental work done as I read on the internet most insect bites are treated with antibiotics. I found a large, brown spider in the kitchen sink this morning, it was not a recluse but I’m sure its the culprit.

Not sure what bit me. I took a photo from my cell phone because it was the closest will try to post photos.

I have a dual-pronged spider bite, one of the two is slightly larger, they’re about a centimeter apart. I’m pretty sure it’s a spider bite, and i did see what I believed to be a brown recluse in my room (of course I smashed it to bits). The larger of the two bumps throbs with pain every now and then.

6:15am: Alright, I?m having some new symptoms, my heartbeat and pulse are erratic, I shiver / twitch every now and then (rather frequently). I?m dreadfully nervous, and a RESPONSE would be greatly appreciated! I?m begging anyone!

I live in Winder Georgia and i spent the night with my friend and we were out side a lot and we spent the night in a camper and my leg was starting to itch but there was no mark except for a bump so i just thought it was a mosquito bite.

When I woke up my friend said Olivia look at your ankle so i did and my leg was puffy and red and there is a red bump in the middle of it. It’s really big, swollen and red but I didn’t feel anything bite me and it doesn’t hurt at all.

I live in San Diego and I got bit by a spider on my calf back in February, it did not hurt at first. It was just a small hard purplish colored bump , it did not itch or hurt. But a few days ago it started burning, it turned red and it HURTS! I have included a picture below:

    Lauren's spider bite on leg

It has become much larger and I have no idea what to do, nothing is helping… any help? I don’t even know what kind of spider bit me, right now I am not sure what it is?

    Hello,

I have included a picture shown below:

    Bite on finger

This spider bite is on the finger of my 5 yr old daughter, she was bitten at about 8pm 22/04/08 by want i can only assume was a black house spider but obviously i could be wrong.

Her spirits and behavior were fine no fever, sweating or vomiting only pain in her finger where she was bitten. Took her to our GP next morning who prescribed IALEX 5ml 3 times per.

My question is that the the bubble that formed an hour after she was bitten keeps growing in size following the length of her finger. When she woke up this morning it was longer protruding further from her finger and filled with white looking stuff.

It looks like a big blister like when u burn yourself but instead of the liquid being clear it is white/yellowish. Any info would be greatly appreciated as I’m concerned this blister thing will keep growing in size.

Should i get a 2nd medical opinion? Thank you for your time and consideration.

    Regards Jay.

hello i am from around the quincy, ill area. i just noticed today around 10 in the morning that my index finger had a red spot then a little later it has this white spot kinda looked like a pimple or something so i squeezed it and it just hurt more.

I went to the nurse at my school, she doesn’t know what it was for sure, but my friend got bit by a spider and it looked like this at first. well now its been about 7 hours since i noticed this mark, it is a bit bigger but not to big, and it is red around this like blister it looks like and it is white.

I have been having pain through my whole hand too. the white isn’t very big at all. it isn’t even a centimeter in diameter, but i have no clue what i got bit by, if a spider bit. please let me know anything to help. I am really freaked out!!!

    hello,

i think i might have been bitten by a spider 4 days ago, or my roommates think so. i was at a music festival at a polo field in the desert near Palm Springs, CA and i noticed a bump on the side of my forearm that didn’t hurt or itch.

Oer the past four days it’s started to hurt a little more (at first only when i poked it) but now when I’m using my arm a lot it hurts as well. it’s not red or discolored in anyway and it has not really grown much in size from the first day (it’s been about a centimeter in diameter the whole time).

It’s not like a typical bug bite where there is a distinct spot, but looks more like a tumor that is under the skin (it is a gradual raise up). it’s very hard under the skin and getting a little hard in the area very close to it.

does this even sound like a spider bite? is it serious? I’ve been feeling sort of nauseous and not hungry, but it might be related to a medication i started yesterday. please let me know if i should see a doctor or do anything besides wait for it to heal itself.

    Thank you!

My husband was bit by something on Easter of this year. It started out looking like a small bug bite that was itchy, but over the last six weeks it has grown. The original spot is now the size of a silver dollar and has hard lumps, then surrounding it is many red pimple looking lumps. He has been on antibiotics and creams from the dr but nothing is helping.

I was driving 72 hours ago in my car and started to feel funny, funny taste in my mouth, light headed, felt like my face was swelling, and my airway was closing off. I started to shake. I am a nurse, and had no idea what was happening, I drove myself into emergency, and was their for 6 hours. They did two sets of tests cardiac and 2 ecg’s no changes.

With some O2 I was okay and they gave me an epi pen and told me to see my Doctor. I thought at one point I was going to die. I also have had a rash since visiting Costa Rica in Nov 07, it comes and goes.

Post episode, within 12 hours I noticed a lump under my chin, like a big pimple it was itchy at first, but now it is just hard, I would say it is 3cm circular. I will making an appointment for an allergist, but in the meantime one of the nurses in my office thought it might be a spider bite.

The lump in under the right side of my chin, and now I am experiencing a funny sensation in my right ear as if it is blocked….. Any comments or suggestions…. many thanks

Around April 7th I noticed a small spot on the back of my neck that hurt and I thought it was a zit. It continued to swell and become very painful. I just assumed it was some type of spider bite, but didn’t worry about it since I have had them before.

The areas became so swollen and painful that I couldn’t put my head on my pillow at night. The swelling and pain starting to go away after a couple days. During this time I had extreme abdominal pain and nausea for about 3-4 days, but didn’t associate the two at the time.

About 2 weeks after the bite I was rubbing my neck and noticed I had a bald spot near the site of the bite. In the last two weeks the spot has grown significantly. The bald spot is completely smooth, no signs of new hair growth and it about an inch in diameter.

Could this have been a black widow? Any ideas?

    Hi,
I’m currently living in Oregon, near Portland and have a spider bite that I’m curious about. At first, about two weeks ago, it appeared to be a bruise because my right thigh had what looked to be a purplish bruise. It was painful at first but now just itches a lot and the bruising has gone away. What I thought was a mole, on the spot of the bruise is actually the spot where it bit me. It looks as if there are two or three darker dots on the spot. Should I be concerned at all? And do you have any idea what sort of spider may have bit me?

    Thanks,
    Katelyn

    Hello,

On Tuesday night, I picked up an ice chest that had been sitting in my car port for a while. I opened it up to look inside. I saw a small, black spider with white spots (kinda black with a white frosted look) crawl from the handle area to the inside of the cooler. I didn’t think anything of it. I mashed it and went on.

The next day at work, I had what looked like a small ant bite came up on my right index finger. On Thursday, the finger was a little red. Me and some buddies had plans to go to Tennessee on Friday. By Friday afternoon, the finger was still red and started swelling. A nurse was with us and I had her look at it on Saturday morning. She said it was definitely a spider bite and I needed to get it looked at. We left coming home on Sunday, a day early. On Monday morning I say my doctor.

    Allens bite on finger

The finger was red and severely swollen. He did some cutting around the bite area and prescribed some antibiotics. On Tuesday the finger started turning black and the wound was oozing clear liquid. By Wednesday morning, I was in agony. The wound was oozing a solid yellow material and my hand started turning black. I went back to my doctor and he immediately referred me to the hospital. A surgeon looked at it and within one hour I was being prepped for surgery.

He cut my finger from the first knuckle to the second and scraped all the infected tissue out. The wound was packed with gauze because he wanted it to heal from the inside out. The surgeon told me he would be surprised if I got all the motion back in my finger because the infection was so severe. He said he was very close to amputating the finger.

Allens bite on finger picture 2

Allens bite on finger picture 3

I was in the hospital for four days hooked up to I.V. antibiotics. The dressing on the finger was changed daily. On Sunday I was released from the hospital with a prescription for a super strong antibiotic. Did physical therapy every day for the first week. Then three times a week for the next two. I’m going on my fourth week post-op now.

The wound is almost healed and I have nearly all the mobility in my finger back although it is still swollen.

If you have any idea as to what kind of spider this might have been, please let me know.

    Thanks!

My son (2 1/2 yrs old) got bit this past Friday as shown in the picture below.

    Bite on the knee

He did not complain at all until late Saturday evening. Took him to ER and was given antibiotics. Yucky stuff is coming out of it and with warm compresses it makes it ooze. He’s been in lots of pain and has been taking Tylenol for several days in a row.

It would be nice to know what it is to make sure we’re doing the proper thing. Looks like the picture 4 of the small pictures (the one with the nickel) any help would be great.

    Hello,

After coming out of the shower a couple days ago, I noticed a weird black, circular wound with a red ring around it on my ankle. I hadn’t remembered bumping my foot or anything, and the center part of the tissue was blackened and scabbed – like the tissue had just kinda died or narcotized as shown in the picture below.

Bite on the leg of John B.

It had an unusual appearance, but no pain at all. I suspected it was possibly a spider bite, and after looking at a few images of spider bites on the Web, I concluded that it probably was.

My wife and I did a spider hunt and initially found this guy lurking around – Top spider in the picture below. Then today, I found another (different species?) spider lurking in my bathroom sink – bottom spider in picture below.

    Spiders found by John B

To the best of your knowledge, what species of spider would you say these are? And, of course I’m curious as to which one, if either, could be responsible for the bite?

I live in Walker Valley, NY – a somewhat rural upstate area, at a rather high elevation in the foothills of the Shawangunk Mountains. I’ve attached a map in the picture above.

Any info will be much appreciated. It’s not a life-or-death situation; I’m mainly just very curious.

    Best,
    JohnB

I have a bump on my back, right on the shoulder blade, that might be a spider bite, but I’m not sure about it. I saw it the other night when I was getting ready for bed, but I figured it was just another mosquito bite, because I was in south Florida, but when I woke up, every time I move that arm, or use that muscle, it hurts. I live in Orlando, Florida in a building that is pretty bug free, but I’m just wondering if this could be a spider bite.

If you’ve been bitten by any spider, SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. I cannot believe some of you are waiting – you could experience serious effects – even death. My cousin was bitten by a black widow, and came through, thank God, because of quick medical attention. Somehow, she even had the presence of mind to catch the offending creature and bring it to the hospital with her. Please don’t wait if you have serious symptoms…it could mean your life!

I just noticed that my daughter has something on the back of her leg…It has a small black/bluish middle kinda the size of a fat black marker (bigger then a pen mark) The black mark has red around it, kinda swollen, itchy and kinda hard…Does this sound like a spider bite of some kind? Or Tick….Not sure what to do, I’m concerned.

I was bitten by a blackish grey spider. It did not have any markings that I was able to see. I’m not sure what kind it was. After I killed it I couldn’t find it to take any pictures of it but I have taken a picture of the bite and have included it below.

    Spider bit on Melissa's chest

This happened Friday morning on May 16 in Oklahoma. The only symptoms I have had are a slight swelling and redness and moderate itching .

I receive a spider bite about every 2 months. It seems as if they crawl in my mouth when I am sleeping and settle in. My mouth gets swollen and all along my jaw line, on the outside, I break out with little blistery duo bites. I seek medical attention.

Presently I have a double chin my face is so swollen and those red irritated marks along my jaw. I will not go out in public like this. We bomb our home; use an exterminator;and check our dogs extra good when they come in at night (I have seen one get off of my dog in the living room once…that’s all it took to make checking the dogs mandatory).

My 14 year old son is petrified of spiders. He has nightmares, the whole nine yards. The last one I saw bite me was black with white on it’s back and white near the tips of it’s front legs. It wasn’t very large. I often mow our back property and before I start I walk the area I am going to mow and use a stick in front of me to get down any webs.

It is 2a.m. here and I cannot sleep from the pain. Is there anything anyone out there thinks I am missing? I keep closets closed, turn down the beds w/lights on, sleep w/ night lites. Beside the ugly scaring on my face…I’m concerned. My husband only gets one bite a year.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I don’t know if this helps. Every time I go to the doctor they say it is the worst reaction to a spider bite they have ever seen. Your thought on this is greatly appreciated.

Okay, I live in South Carolina and I was at school yesterday. We went outside before lunch and I walked through a spider web. I wiped off my arms and stuff and no one told me if there was a spider on me or not. So I thought there wasn’t one. Then in science I started noticing little itchy bumps on a red welt or whatever. It was swollen and itchy. It started hurting, but not a lot.

We went outside during science and I looked back down and it was huge!! About…maybe 7 minutes later I looked down and the welt was like yellow-ish and pink-ish. In fourth period (right after science) i noticed it looked like the state of South Carolina. Seriously. lol. It was still yellow, but had gone down a bit.

When I got home, it was just a red lump. But around 10pm or so, i noticed it was all pus filed like an ant bite, so i popped it. Now it just has this hole in it or whatever. My science teacher said it wasn’t a spider bite if it didn’t have like bite marks in it. It looks like there is some, but i can’t tell if it’s just my pores being enlarged from the swelling. It’s now a swollen lump with the hole in it, and feels kinda warm.

I don’t know what to do about it. I have put various anti-itching creams on it(not all at once) and it itches really bad! My nurse said to rub it, but that hurts. What do I do?? I go to the doctor for a check-up next Thursday, May 29. I’m pretty sure it’s a spider bite, it looks like some of these pics on here. Any suggestions?

I might send in some pics of it later. I’m really scared that my arm will end up like some of these peoples fingers and legs where it’s all nasty!!! So yeah, I need to know what to do! It’s getting on my nerves and I don’t want to die!!! lol.

I had something bite me on the inside of my lower arm last night. There was one red raised spot about the size of a dime.

Tonight there are two more red raised spots about 1/4 – 1/8 inch from the first spot. All three spots are raised. At first I thought I had a mosquito bite but now I think it was a spider. Am a little concerned as to why it seems to be spreading.

I was bitten by what i think is a spider. I never saw the spider and did not even know I had a bite until I was going to bed and as I turned over I had this itch, but it was also painful. I started to scratch but it hurt to do so, so I stopped. It felt like a mosquito bite and when i looked at it I knew it wasn’t. It is red with little pus heads in the middle and is swollen and hard like a mosquito bite. it has been 5 days since i noticed the bite and it is getting redder and there is a light red circle now surrounding it. I would take a picture but it is on my buttocks. I have not seen a Dr. I live in Okc,Oklahoma

Is it possible to make a house spider-proof, and would this mean more other bugs, flies etc in the home?

I woke up a few nights ago with what appeared to be spider bites. There were about 5-10 bumps that look like bites. They itch and are swollen. Also I am the only one in my house to get bit by spiders. I found one in my shirt this morning and also on my towel, I was doing the laundry that I didn’t get to last night and I checked every article before putting it away and I only found the 2 in my items. Does anyone know if there is a certain scent that spiders are drawn to? Or can they smell your blood and know if it would taste good? I know it’s weird but I’m curious why I’m the only one who gets bit. Please help if you can!!!

I’m not sure if I have a bite(s)? The other night I was standing there when a small black and yellow spider was tickling my ankle. I kicked it off and squished it. I woke up the next morning and my ankle hurt.

There are two little red holes right next to each other. One on my ankle, one on my calf. About an hour ago my ankle and calf started to hurt really bad.

I don’t know if I have a spider bite and that’s why it hurts? The bites are reddish/pink but not swelling or anything. But my leg HURTS!! I think it was a garden spider that I squished.

    Hi,

I’ve a question about spider bites. I am not sure I’ve got a spiderbite, but I think I have… I’m a little bit scary about the eventually suites…

Is it true (my sister tells me) that you can have eggs of the spider in the spiderbite??? Or is this completely nonsense (I hope so…).

My friend has what we think/thought was a zit on the back of his left arm, about an inch or two above the elbow. It’s a little smaller than a dime at the surface, but radiates out to larger than a quarter. It’s hard to the touch. There is some pain.

We’ve squeezed it and have gotten some acne material out of it, which is why we thought it was a zit. Friday, when I squeezed it, I could see there was something harder in there. I squeezed it enough to bring it over the surface and pulled the piece out the rest of the way with tweezers.

It was a large chunk, almost the size of a small pencil eraser. It didn’t appear there was anything in it. (He works around metal, so we thought this could be caused from a metal splinter.)

Today he was told it was a spider bite, someone even suggested a brown recluse, but I knocked that idea down because they’re rare in this area. He also said it feels like there’s more stuff ready to come out.

Does this sound like a spider bite?

    Hey guys,

I have included a picture below which I think is a spider bite. I happened to be in the hospital this pass weekend. A coworker sent me your web site which indeed helped me Identify that I have a spider bite.

    Spider bite on Rhina

The Doctor still can’t say what bit me. But I have compared your pictures with mine and they look identical. I am still recovering, everything is
    looking good in my arm.

Great web spider site it help me a lot more of what I have thought.

    Thanks,

Hi I woke up 5 days with part of my upper lip swollen. I noticed there were to two small bumps. My family thinks it is most likely a spider bite. It was fairly small bumps which started scarring day before yesterday so i figured it was not cold sores. It didn’t hurt too much but there was little bit of pain and sensitivity.

Later the other I saw a spider on my bed. It was a small spider. I don’t usually see spiders in my room. This was one of the few times.

Do you think it is a spider bite??
Do you think spider bites are contagious?

What if someone else came in contact with it like if I kissed a baby on the cheek or my boyfriend on the mouth.

How can I make it heal faster because I keep messing with my lip.

I live in Indiana, just north of Indianapolis. This bite I have I must have gotten early Sunday morning while I slept on my couch. It started turning red and itching pretty severely that same afternoon. Now, on Friday, it is red, pink and a little purple and it itches and burns now. My muscles are a little tense, but the bite is not feverish. The puncture wounds are about 1 cm apart and the “bruising” (for lack of a better term) is just under 2cm across. I’m not too worried, but I’d like to at least know what spider bit me.

    Hello:
Back on 3 June 2008 I was standing at work (I am a bank teller) and had an itch on my ankle. I scratched and scratched and pulled down my sock to see nothing but feel a tiny bump, no larger than a mosquito bite. I thought nothing of it and just tried not to think of it and it seemed to ‘vanish’.

Later that evening it began to itch again but just red from my scratching and continued to ‘disappear’ when I forced myself to focus on other actitivties and only would remind me of it itching every once and a while. It did this all though 4 June 2008, not so much at work but more in the evening when I was getting ready for bed and there was nothing more to distract me.

Come 5 June 2008 (yesterday), I wore a sandal-like shoe to work and about half-way through my day realized that I was scratching my ankle unusually frequently. My co-workers and I looked at it to find it had become more red, slightly swollen, and terribly itchy. The bite spot was the reddest and then the ‘itch radius’ around it was red from my scratching. I still though it was a mere bug bite and just itchy but it would fade away. But it itched and itched and when I got home and took my ’strappy’ shoe off, my ankle swelled! Not to any baseball size, or anything. But enough to stretch the skin so it was noticeable when I walked. To be honest (and no offense meant!), it looked similiar to when elderly sometimes have trouble with circulation down to their feet. The ankle doesn’t just swell into a ball shape, but it does swell enough to not match the other and look uncomfortable. Did I mention it itched? So I put my foot up all evening and night and placed ice on it.

This morning I went to a doctor and he gave me an antihistamine, antibiotic, some perscription anti-bacterical cream, and told me to get itch cream and ice and gave me a tetnus(sp?) shot. It looks a bit more purple to me at the site of where the bite was and I think the ‘itching radius’ is expanding. It does not itch where the bite-dot is at, it itches in a oval shape with one side reaching down on the arch of my foot and the other towards the middle of the top of my foot. (I took pictures today as I wrote this)

As for specifics, I have no fever, no chills, no stomach problems, no headaches (out of the ordinary, I get some from work and my contacts every once and a while). The only symptoms is the slight swelling and the ITCHING!!! (If I could underline that a million times, I would) I live south of Denver, CO and the only other place other than home (2nd floor apartment building) and my work was on Sunday, 1 June 2008, I was on my parent’s mountain property in the Rockies not far from where I live.

I’m not too worried about my flesh decomposing or anything, but I was just hoping to figure out what the heck bit me!!! I would love to get this itching to stop, too! I haven’t been this irritable since chicken pox! Thanks!!

hi. About 2 weeks ago my boyfriend noticed what looked like a pimple on his elbow and he pooped it around 8 am and everything seemed to be fine until around 3pm his elbow felt weird and had swelled up it looks like he has a golf ball under his skin.

So i took him to the ER and the doctor said that his pimple had gotten infected and i do not believe that is correct i don’t see how that can happen in such a little time. So the doctor drew out the fluid and the swelling did not go done and he put him on 2 antibiotics which have done nothing. So i took him to another doctor and he said there was a infection and he drew out more fluid and he also thinks it might be bursitis which i do not believe at all i think that he got bit by some sort of spider. If you could help me out anyone that would be great . Thank you

I was bitten by a spider three years ago in South-Central PA (Cumberland County). I was bitten on the right hand while I was sleeping. I woke up with a swollen hand and three red marks that traveled from my hand to my wrist. The swelling did not cease and my skin became red and warm to the touch. The swelling started to spread up my arm throughout the morning.

Once I arrived from from school I was put on an antibiotic which helped to alleviate the swelling. However, my hand is still abnormally large, and I know encounted edema of both hands and both feet.

My hands and feet especially swell when I am in the heat and/or an enclosed area.

I have no tolerance for the heat and each doctor I see has trouble figuring out what’s wrong with me because my blood work is fine.

Do you think I really was bitten by a spider? Do spiders bite in “threes”?

I have just come back from Australia, and have this crazy itchy rash type thing on my thigh. It is all bumpy and is about as big as the palm of my hand. Does this sound like a bite of any kind, I have never had anything like it and it has been there for about a week now.
