hello, we have thease itsy bitsy little clear spiders that in the past two days have completly infested our apartment, the bites hurt a lot and swell up to be a bit larger then mosquito bites. they are nearly invisiable so its hard to see them, and they are so small. we found a dead small spider, with long legs with black and brown rings on its legs dead in the bathroom the day before the infestation. we live in upstate NY, near Canada. ive been searching for ways to identify them, but so far no luck. so far the bites havent gotten infected or swollen past large mosquito bite size, but we have small mammals that live with us and we are worried that with so many little spiders about that they could be seriously hurt by the bites. we have lived in this apartment, in town (not country), for three years and have never had a spider problem before. any information would be helpful. thank you. :)

ahhhhh! I just stuck my fingers into the lip of a flower pot and felt a big web. I tipped the pot over and saw the spiky egg sac. I knew then it was bad. When I sprayed the egg sac with bug spray 4 big brown widows came out. I think I saw a couple of males too. One of the females may have escaped. Here’s a pic of the fatalities. I’m sorry but I’ve had arachniphobia most of my life. This is one of my worst nightmares come to life.

i live in TN(if you need a region as to what spider it may be) i just found aspider crawling in my house, just on the floor. it was a decent size spider with long skinny legs and a bigger body, i know its not a brown recluse, but it was light brown with a striped pattern on the back.

  7. Drew says:

Number 28 is NOT a brown recluse spider. I have a spider just like number 28 and it’s sitting in a container right next to me. I just caught it. Stopped by here to see what it is. I’ll be right back , doing a web search…..

…. The spider in the photo shown in post 28 is a Parson Spider. They are black with a white stripe down the back, which ends in a kind of arrow-like shape. Pretty cool looking spider anyway. Well, now I know what this little bugger is, what do I do with it?

  8. J.D. Bruce says:

I’ll send some pictures shortly. I found two of these spiders. One was crawling on my son’s bed when I was reading him to sleep, the other was climbing our curtain. We live in the mountains outside Los Angeles, in Topanga Canyon.

    Pictures to follow.

    Thanks,

    Hi..

I have been trying to identify some spiders that are near our fresh water dock and shoreline. By their markings, they appear to be wolf spiders, but they are huge – we’re talking 5-6 inches across for the adults. Very good eyesight (they see me coming at ’em); they aren’t afraid to run at you as wel. No webs that I can see. They love floating docks, pilings, etc. Impressive creatures. Anyone have any idea? Brown and black, mostly brown, and a great deal bigger than any decription of any wolf spider I can find….

    Thanks for any help.

  10. Dan says:

I saw this distinctive spider in a bunch of red grapes we bought at the store. I’ve never seen it before. The grapes had been refridgerated for about 1 day and the spider was still alive and unfazed. Looked like some grapes had been cut open and I wonder whether the spider was eating the insides/juice. Wispy web between some of the grapes. We live in Atlanta, Georgia (although I didn’t check to see where the grapes were grown) and set it free (to hopefully live happily with all our native black widows roaming the yard…).

Thanks for any identifying info you may have.

Numbers 157 & 161 are Spiny Backed Orb Weavers. They’re not poisonous. They are a type of writing spider. You should see some thicker spots on strand of it’s webs.

Hi! This spider was hiding in some pants in the bedroom and bit me several times. I live in Northeastern TN. I took these pictures with the spider on my laptop so hopefully the size of the keyboard can give you an idea of the spider size. It had a weird reddish colored area on its underside that is hard to see in the photographs but it was definitely not a black widow. Both of its back two legs had small grey stripes on them and its back had similar stripes that were much fainter than the leg stripes. The bites burn like a bee sting. Thanks for any help!

hi, yesterday i was cleaning off my 2 yr old daughter’s jogger to taketo a friend’s house to walk our kids together. i’d noticed that her dad had left it outside by the side of the house and there were cobwebs on and around it and hadn’t had a chance the past few days to get to it. so yesterday i took a rag out there and was wiping it down and noticed tons of little spiders running around and off of it, so i took the hose out and started spraying it down-in the interest of time and safety with all those little guys running around.i lifted the back of the seat up to spray behind it and this HUGE light brown spider with a body the size of a dime but more oval shaped with a light beige oval line down the middle of it.it kept escaping as i tried to hose it into the bottom filled with water so as to not let it go anywhere. it’s legs are about as long as 1/3 the length of a pencil and curved and while it tried to move away and hide inside of places, it certaintly wasn’t super speedy, but fairly quick. it kind of looks like number 142 and 46(i think, or one near that).

help me please-i thank the universe i decided to spray that sucker off because if i had put my little girl in there and had only wiped down what i saw, it would of crawled right onto her back or her head. i have a picture i will try to download tonite when her daddy gets home, but unforntunately it got onto the ground and hid beneath the tire and i freaked out and ran it over and then stuck it in an empty bottle, so i don’t think that will be much help, so the pic i took of it on the side of the jogger is all i’ve got. but if anyone know’s what those two pics were(142 or 46), please post any ideas because i’m worried for my kids.
    thanks, angela

Hello, I live in Buffalo NY and just noticed in my basement giant threads hanging all over my basement ceiling. They are thick like strings but they don’t form webs. I ran out of my basement scared to death.
We have had a lot of rain and humidity here too.

Does anyone know what in the world is in my basement? Like a tarantula or something? I’m not going back down there and I was going to paint using my home gym!

    Should I call pest control?

I live in Virginia and found a really huge brown striped spider in the basement. It moved really fast. I want to say it’s a wolf spider but it looked skinnier than the wolf spiders I’ve seen online. Can someone please help me identify it? Thanks a lot!

I live in central Illinois and in a new neighborhood that used to be a corn/bean field. We have a bean field behind out house. I was watering our bushes and saw all these spiders running across the landscaping rock. There are probably hundreds of these in there. I believe the blue bottoms were white yesterday like they are changing color as they grow. Any idea on what kind these are?

I found a bright white spider with red bars down each side of a round but flattish body, with a perfect religious style cross on its back. Its front legs are very long almost crablike. Thanks in advance for the help,I’d really just like to see if I can let him loose with no worries of a bad bite to anyone as he is quite beautiful.

I live in Venezuela. We have these spiders in our beach house in the state of Vargas (in northern Venezuela). The tiles in the picture are about 1.5 cm x 1.5 cm.

I basically need to know if they’re poisonous. I have not seen a single spider web and I find that curious, since these creatures are all over.

One more thing, we have a pool and they fall into it constantly. After about 12 hours of being underwater, we take them out to find they’re still alive.

I know nothing about spiders, so any info you can give me will be helpful. The color in the picture is not that clear, but they are orange and black.

He’s a small one but bigger then most spiders here hes a dark brown with a cream kind of stripe down the middle of his body but his rear is a tan sandy colour. i havnt seen one like this before and im curious to what kind he is. to #85 and #357
I believe those are Cat-Faced Spider – Araneus gemmoides. I am from oregon and see them all the time. as far as I know they are harmless. I have let them crawl on my arm and they make great webs. I think they are cute. # 357 your spider looks like it has dark or no markings but I have seen a variety of these spiders and some tend to have darker marks.

    to #308 and maybe # 310

I just found that spider today outside my house. I t was dime sized and scary. Black with what appears to be a white happy or mean face on its butt. the mouth shape on the abdomen could resemble a heart. when trying to capture the spider his abdomen fell off and it died. I need batteries for my camera so no picture sadly..

  38. Suzanne says:

I have a black and white striped spider living in a flowering plant by the back of my house. I live in Southeast Texas. I have tried to take a picture but any breeze makes the web start vibrating. The web is very pretty. It starts at the ends as single strands and then turns into an area where it is very closely woven. It kind of looks like shading in a picture. But it helps the spider camouflage itself. the legs are long and thin. I guess the spider itself is less than an inch in length. I would appreciate any info you have.
    Thanks

  40. Amanda says:

I was leaving my work (a coffee shop) the other night when I spotted a HUGE spider on the floor near the window. It was by far the biggest spider that I have ever seen indoors, about 2 1/2 inches in diameter, body length about 1inch. It was medium brown and had dark and light brown stripes on its body, and had large palps (i think thats what they are called. The parts in front of the jaws that look like fangs.) My coworker and I were too excited and anxious to catch it and get it out and away from the establishment to think to take a picture.

I dont think it was a brown recluse, but we’re in Houston, Tx, part of its territory. Do they get that big? And if its not a recluse, could it still be venemous enough for us to need to worry about customer safety? because it was right in the area where customers sit and drink, and this was a VERY large spider. I have only ever seen one other non-pet spider that big that close to civilization, and that was a dead Australian redback probably big enough had it been alive to kill an adult.

  41. Monique says:

I don’t have a picture because (a) these spiders move too fast when you get too close, and (b) I’m not getting near them. We live in Philadelphia and keep finding these huge spiders in the basement. It’s a semi-finished basement. These guys are brown, and are probably about an inch and a half or two including legs. The legs are pretty long and they’re bent so they stick straight up, and you can see the joints. They have huge eyes in the front.

Most disturbingly, they jump really far laterally when anything gets near them. Like a foot at a time, maybe more. Last week, my husband held a huge phone book over one and dropped it but by the time it hit the ground, the spider was long gone out of sight in one jump. Usually, I find a pole and put the end near the spider and it jumps away, but I am concerned because we are getting a puppy in two weeks and I am worried about whether it is dangerous to the puppy if the puppy isn’t smart enough to stay away. Does anyone know what this is and if it’s dangerous?

Tonight, I went to the bathroom, and I found a spider in my bathtub about the size of a penny. It had 2 eyes, and they were pretty big. The tips of it’s legs were black, and the rest of the leg was yellow. It had a black stripe down the middle of the abdomin, and the rest of the abdomin was like tiger stripes, except with black and yellow. The head was a shiny black. As mentioned above, the two eyes were huge! Please reply with what this is.. I have a one year old, and I don’t want him to get bitten…

I am from Beggs, Oklahoma. I found this spider out in my barn on the ground next to the wooden wall of the barn and door. This barn is half open to outside and half enclosed. He was found on the open side of the barn. I would like to know if he is poiseness, and can it hurt me? I put the spider in a small fish tank with no water added. A temp containment until someone can tell me if this is deadly? Can you tell me if this is deadly, poisness, or harmless?
